EA Sports does for sports games what most major record labels now do for hip hop. Turn it into something that the actual people who made the genre popular in the beginning no longer care to experience.

My 'Ridiculous' Tekken comparisons are taken out of context. Or perhaps i just failed to put them in context...

its not Tekken in the way it looks or works, just that this game has as much depth as any of the 3D fighters i mentioned. The point I failed to make was while holding as much control depth as Tekken, its less accessible to newcommers

Noone cant get away with spamming Capoeria style kick in this game. THAT ascertation is ridiculous. And while this game does err toward the arcade side of the spectrum, I wouldn't say its as newbie friendly as one. At least when it comes to the ground game.

One another note, I do find it interesting that those with Ps4 and X1 are having an easier time with takedown defense on ps4. Im 32 so My reaction times are a bit slower than they used to but personally i find defending any kind of take down too hard on x1. Mind you, Im still trying to break years of UFC undisputed habits.
Ignorance of evidence is evidence of ignorance...

Bad decision by EA on not letting us at least change the difficulty & giving us two more fighters to choose from in the demo smh. If the arcady aggressive CPU style is a product of the demo being on easy the it would be wise for EA to come out & say it. I'm sure the final version will be better (obviously with more options) but as of right now it's leaving a bad taste for a lot of people. I played 3 matches & stop playing because I dont want to get tainted by the stripped down demo. I'll wait for the retail version. Initial impression was the game is good but not as great as I hoped. It being only 30fps really stands out to me. The controls take some getting used to. I dont get the sense of power behind my punches that I would expect.* The ref not stepping in to stop the fight on knockouts is extremely awkward. Overall I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Because I'm such an MMA fan, I'm going to have a bittersweet time with the game. I love MMA so much that I still have to have this game when it comes out.. but also because I'm such an MMA fan, I can easily see where EA dropped the ball on this title.. especially compared to what THQ did with UFC 3. The game does play arcadey and while it's not exactly Tekken, its does feel like an old school arcade in the mall type of fighting game with an MMA skin put on it. Who knows, maybe there's sliders or something to make it not feel like EA Sports Street Fighter UFC 2014...

I will say this though, I always was suspect of EA taking the game over. Actually I think their older MMA game prior to the UFC license played more realistic at least with standup.

So I don't think most of us should be suprised. EA is NOT going to accurately represent any of the sports they push a game out around. Fifa and NHL are closer to the real thing than their other titles, though but I think its more because of how the real version of those games are. It's hard to make FIFA and NHL super arcadey. But once again, EA sports has cornered the market in a sports genre (yes I know there are other MMA games out there, but you know what I mean), and managed to water the game down (or be lazy and not develop) the things into a sports title to get it closer to the real thing. EA's UFC game doesn't come close to THQ efforts and I'm not making this a them vs. them post.. Im using the last UFC licensed game that happened to be made by someone else as a base and to put context and contrast around my comments.

Once again, with EA it's all about investing. They invested in the NFL so they could put out an unrealistic football game, and they did it again with UFC. I honestly don't think its a case of EA intentionally making their sports games arcadey.. I just think its EASIER for them to make a game that's more arcade like. It's like they are too lazy to put the man hours and dev talent into this game or any other sports title they have to get it close to simulating the real thing.. I get it.. that takes more work, more brains and more hours.. and the best devs out there don't want to work for EA Sports, and the board has to keep that profit margin at a certain level for the investors.

The game is not BAD.. it looks great, Im sure the final build will be what it was hyped up to be in the trailer and pre launch videos.. but the GAMEPLAY feels about 3 steps backwards from the last UFC title I purchased.. UFC3.
Well said BC, I agree completely

I apologize for my "Tekken" references and not being more accurate in what I mean by it. When I am saying this I am talking about how people can pop in a few quarters at the local arcade with say Gordo or any character really - and just spam the face buttons and pull of some moves and win a few games and think they are good at the game (sadly the difference is Tekken has more depth and a real pro will be able to demolish a button masher) however, in this game there does not feel like there is that much depth to it and it lacks that feel of a MMA SPORTS GAME and instead like a generic fighter that does not play like something that would really happen

Played a couple matches today. My hype for this game is officially gone. The standup game is more along the lines of Taekwondo Toughman. Ridiculously aggressive AI, spinning kicks and capoeira kicks all over the place, guys easily taking multiple head kicks without batting an eye. The ground and clinch game are rather clunky. The submission system is creative and I do like what they are attempting to do.

I will wait for release and see what people's impressions are, but I'm not holding my breath. So disappointing because I was so pumped for this game.

I quit the tutorial early and Dana White yelled at me. Hardest I've laughed in a long time.

                  No way! Really???

Here is my first match. It actually was the best match I have had so far. I was trying to time my swaying and counter punching, my ground game sucks though. Need to practice more.

The takedowns are terrible. There is no sprawling, even EA MMA had that. So every takedown is either shrugged off or goes into a pick up slam or a single leg pull down.

Instead of developing better animations for takedowns they spent their time wisely giving Gus this move

I am quite worried that every fighter will have a similar move set. Just because Bones and Gus are LHW's and have a similar build and reach, doesn't mean they have the some moves. I saw both Bones and Gus use the cage to do a "Showtime Kick" during my time with the demo; Come on now.

The animations remind me a little of Backbreaker + Facebreaker. Kind of wonky, and disjointed.

I am still holding onto hope for the retail version. But, I am concerned.

There's a lot of "the sky is falling" posts in this thread, but I really don't think the game is all that bad. If there is no variation in CPU tendencies in the full version of the game on different difficulties, I'll have more of an issue then. For now, all I see is a fun MMA game with a few missteps that I can overlook right now. I think the basic elements of combat are represented fairly well, honestly. It's not exactly a simulation experience or anything, but I wasn't expecting this game to change my life with a first time effort. I don't know, I still really want to play the retail edition and see how it compares to the demo. And I also want to see how good this is online as well.

Probably just generic move sets for the demo and to show off some new kicks.

good thing this demo.came.out....it saved me from purchasing day one. I'm sorry there is.no.sugarcoating this gameplay.this demo is a TERRIBLE representation of the ssport called MMA.

I played 5 matches and so many things wrong with the gameplay and if the gameplay is bad even.with great footwork, photorealistic graphics and fluid animstions, game will STILL be bad. this demo has no.redeeming qualities....of all the 3 ufc thq titles and EA mma, this demo ranks dead last if you grade it on the basis of mma representation.

                              1) cpu over aggressive
                              2) stamina is too lenient
                              3) same strategy throughout the fight and same ai for both fighters.
                              4) heavy strikes dont do much damage as the fighters have solid steel chins.
                              5) takedowns are a bit unrralistic (.slams)
                              6) no.standing jabs....so reach advantage pretty much negated on jabs.

NUMBERS 1-4 are the critical flaws for me...

it's just a very disappointing demo and i dont see myself playing it again.

My only hope and I am.clinging to this hope....is that numbers 1-4 are much improved in the final version and a raise in difficulty will result in smarter AI instead of being MORE aggressive ( which is what usually happens in EA sports games).

I still have a glimmer of hope....but to be honest, it's just probably wishful thinking.

Makes me so angry that EA Sports' motto is "it's in the game" bc the first thing that you notice Is how many things aren't in the game! They said they were making the "most realistic mma game ever created!" Well, apparently the ppl who made this game have never seen an actual UFC event. When Bruce Buffer is announcing the fighters that aren't in the main or co-main events, he is a bit more reserved in his intros. When he announces the main and co-main event fighters, he is energetic, exciting, enthusiastic, the inflection in his voice conveys to the audience that they are about to witness a bad *** fight! In EA UFC, the first thing I noticed is how monotoned Buffer is. Granted, the demo isn't a title fight, but this is Jon Jones and Andrew Gustaffson! He should sound like he wants us to anticipate the fight! You can watch the video of the Pettis/Aldo title fight on you tube, and though he sounds better, it still sounds like ****. For EA to hype their presentation so much, this is unacceptable. Bruce Buffer IS the presentation! The commentary by Joe and Mike is hit and miss, although Joe can definitely get you pumped at times with his over the top descriptions of the action. But nonetheless, I did hear the audio cut in and out as anyone with a good ear can hear the Madden-like commentary pieced together carelessly from old audio.

The visuals in this game make it easy, at times, to forget that it's a video game. The stand up is overly complex. They did not need to add that many commands to this game. They have made the L2/LT button the lower body attack modifier, which is fine. What I don't like, is that they have made the bob and weave (slipping) totally useless by attaching it to this button. There are no combos that work correctly when using it, and you just end up getting knocked out because of it. The fact that the strikes are thrown slowly enough so that you can time the blocking to parry strikes is absurd in itself. Throwing a strong right hook with (R1+Triangle) takes about 3 seconds it seems. The clinch game is not bad. The ground game is infuriating at times, but I'm slowly getting better at it. Submissions?! I Hate the mini game, and I'd much rather mash buttons then try to mess with this inconsistent nonsense. I like the stamina system, but I don't feel that a full stamina strike is any more damaging than a half or no stamina strike. The game feels slow when it needs to feel fast and fast when it needs to feel slow. Look guys, I'm not trying to bash the game because I hate it...I'm bashing it because I've been looking forward to the next UFC game since I got tired of UFC 3. Then, as fate would have it, THQ goes under and EA Sports swoops in to **** out yet another sports game. As soon as I read that they secured the UFC license, my heart sank because I knew what that meant for the future of UFC games. Still, I hoped for the best. Now that it's here, I am not impressed and I am NOT surprised. From fighters to moves, from animations to introductions, it is shocking how little they did with all of the extra horsepower these new consoles have. Now, that being said, it is their first attempt at a legitimate mma game (sorry guys, EA MMA doesn't count in my mind bc it too SUCKED). This game will run on an 18-24 months cycle, and that is now my last bastion of hope. In time, I believe that they will fix what they did wrong, further evolve what they did right, and one day....we will see the game that they promised they'd give us in 2012. For now, my ps3 will be staying with me for the sole purpose of getting to play the winner, AAAAANNNNDDD STILLLLLL, THE UNDISPUTED UFC KING OF MMA GAMES....UFC Undisputed 3!
