The Motherload V Roster: The Super Seventies!

DYN-O-MITE! The Motherload V: Super Seventies Roster, featuring the greatest players from 1970 to 1981. (PS3)

EDIT: SEE POST #5 BELOW FOR THE FILE AND IMPORTANT NOTES. thanks.

Times sure have changed since the 1970's. Back then, the best football video game you could play looked like this...

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/nx_m7xHlr3A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Later is better than never. It's almost time for the new Madden to come out, however I've been working with Madden 25 to create the greatest players from the years 1970 to 1981 for PS3.

    Howard, give us the intro...

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ifR7lmPDN_M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The age of Pornstaches, Good Times and Happy Days, many of the players are compiled from different rosters out there and I also created many players on my own. I've noticed that a huge amount of players have the wrong skin color which I have fixed. Hundreds were re-rated. I have also fixed giant Hulk-type players to be more of a normal size.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TQ3LPzv7Vvs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's a very extensive roster that has taken me over a month to do. Nothing like when I created the 1000 greatest NFL players of all time which took me over three months of eight hours a day work, but it's still quite extensive IMO.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/bnzftDHIo3c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm still tweaking things but it should be done in the next week or so. Special thanks go to metallicarl for his 1972 roster which I used as a base. I took several liberties with teams like Seattle and Tampa Bay, and incorporated some players from 1982 and 1983 to make them competitive, But even so, they may go 0-16 because teams like Pittsburgh and Dallas are so powerful.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/eVLKyVRz_c0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This roster is heavy on defense and the running game, appropriate for the era. Additionally, I have edited all players to be no more than 29 years old so that they don't retire and the potential equals their overall so hopefully they won't progress so that you can move the Titans back to Houston, etc. in year two and maintain the same ratings of players.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/M845T7ENeH8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

With teams like the Panthers, Jags, Ravens and Texans, they are expansion teams, so they selected all the best free players that could not fit on the other teams rosters.

Just as with real expansion teams you'll find aging has-beens on the team, as well as scrubs that were scrubs in real life. They won't be very competitive, however if you are a fan of the era, you will recognize some names that you'll be happy to see.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AJaDfB4Ljgs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Interestingly enough, I had to create two Redskins teams, one that was heavy with the 1972 roster, and one that was heavy with the 1981 roster, because they had two Super Bowl squads in 1972 and 1982. Just too many players to put on one team, and I feel that they warrant having two teams, But you can always combine them if you like. I am also considering making a second Dolphin team. The Dolphins and Redskins met in the 1972 and 1982 Super Bowls, so they had strong teams in both decades.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/rHk0BtQWs68" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It was a difficult decision as to where to stop the roster, because 1982 was also a good year, but if I opened up that can of worms I would have to include all of the 80s, and that it would take until the next Madden to come out, LOL.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/VdTWQk_-sNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Besides, there is a 1983 and 1986 roster out there already.

This roster will span the period between the 1972 roster and the 1983 roster, so you are fully covered for the 70's! Everyone who was anyone from '72 to '81 is included.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/fRGEkuNUH6I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I will update this post when I have more information to share. I'm just excited to be able to share this. Look for the roster within the next week or so.

At long last, the roster is done. Final testing tomorrow and if all is well, will post the file so everyone can enjoy this massive file!

And BTW, very few players will be called by the wrong name! I successfully renamed over 1000 players.

On behalf of the PS3 community I would like to say thank you for your blood, sweat and tears hard work. Sounds like to me that its going to be amazing! Love the fact that you where able to get most names being announce in the game. I personally prefer 'old school' over 'new school' rosters.

        This sounds amazing!
Any chance of getting it converted to 360?

EDIT: SEE POST #21 FOR UPDATED FILE THAT WORKS IN CFM. This one will crash.

          WARNING: READ BELOW!!!

Here is the file, finally. I ran into sooo many glitches and problems, but fixed them all as far as I can tell.

          A couple of important caeats:

          1. On the free agent list are duplicates. I know not why the game created duplicates but my experience with such freaks of nature are to quarantine them so they don't infect others. As such, I recommend you levae them where they are, edit them to low overalls, and forget about them. Play them at your own risk! They may be fine but then again, who knows what evil they can create!

          2. I suggest you play with 32 team control to avoid the above possible problem.

There are also close to 500 created players named "Your Name". You can edit them if you want to but their audio names are Peyton Manning, Victor Cruz, Andy Dalton, Rothlisberger, etc, etc...). Just treat them as training camp fodder. The good thing is that they will stop the game from creating too many fake players.

          3. ANY PROBLEMS with players disappearing, showing up on wrong team in wrong uniform, just AUTO REORDER the depth chart to fix any issues.
          :

          4. I did not edit colleges, faces, etc, so don't complain about that stuff, LOL
Players are all close to the right color skin (not shade, but black is black and white is white)

          5. Panthers and Jaguars are stocked with extra Dolphins and redskins, Texans and ravens are expansion teams filled with those that could not make the regular rosters. Enjoy the Easter Eggs!

          6. Helmets were the TK type during the 70's, so that is what you get.

          7. As always, feel free to edit to your taste.

          ENJOY!

I just played ( 1 quarter each) in about 8-9 games the rosters are very good. There were no glitches or issues that I saw.
Doc, can't thank you enough for your hard work and effort. Being a child of the 70's these rosters really bring back the memories.

Re: The Motherload V Roster: The Super Seventies!

I never finished a game just wanted to see how they look and play.
First game raiders vs steelers- as expected very violent first drive Blount knocked Lamonica out for game. Second series branch knocked out by Lambert.
                    7-7 end of first.
I really like the feel of the running game on this set. I played the dolphins vs jets. The jets really struggled to stop kick, Morris and czonka.
I'm using charters slider set ATM if feels very authentic.

I'm really glad to hear it. That's how I designed it. SMASHMOUTH BABY! In those days, passing was hard due to all the physicality. I made press coverage really effective to mimic that.

From the days when football was FOOTBALL! I only wish I could make Lambert's face with teeth missing, LOL.

I'm at the beach and spent all my late evenings setting up ccm with classic teams. I'll scrap that for this roster. It is very smash mouth and70's style. Love it. Great work
