Selling Soccer players

Guys can someone for dummies walk me through what this process is like. Similar to US sports player trading? Something else? Can you break it down?

It's not really like the US system of player transfers you see here. In the US you see player for player transactions or player for draft pick transactions mostly. The soccer system is mainly a money for player type transaction. There will be an occasional player swap involved as well, but more often than not there wont.

So basically:

Team A wants Player X from Team B
Team A offers Y amount of money to Team B in return for Player X
Team A receives Player X
Team B receives Y amount of money

Thanks Texas, but what is the strategy employed here generally. Is it just about the dollars over value. Like would I give up any of my best players for the right price?

It's tough to say. As far as giving up your most important players, you will generally only want to do that if you are getting an offer that is far over his value in return. This way you will be able to afford a comparable replacement + be able to add to your team more with the money left over.
