Despite the trades that happened today to give us something to talk about, I still like my idea of having the lottery at the same time as the draft. Then as soon as your ball is drawn, you're on the clock. Make the GMs work! Would probably drive ratings higher as a bonus.

As far as Kesler and Garrison go, Vancouver was screwed due to the NTC. I also think Benning was targeting a specific group of players rather than outright taking the best offer available. Bonino, Dorsett and Sbisa are all NHL players. If they make moves with their new found cap space, I think they will play themselves out of the McDavid race. If they get the 1st overall pick, he will likely be NHL ready as well.

Kesler deal is shades of the Nash deal, except Vancouver didn't get the Erixon level prospect thrown in.

On the plus side, Kesler's departure fulfilled the prophecy.

The Boston model won a cup and had a SCF's appearance shortly after. It can't be all that bad.

The "Boston model" isn't actually about sending goons and "facepunchers" out to beat the other team's brains in until they give up. Boston's Cup wasn't won by Adam McQuaid, Shawn Thornton, and Lucic the thug. It was won by Tim Thomas, Chara, Krejci, Bergeron, and Lucic the skilled big-man.

And Roberto Luongo basically selfcombusting. That helped.

Blues send Roman Polak to Toronto for Carl Gunnarsson and 94th pick.

I guess if we were gonna take a prospect to never be heard from again at 94 it was worth the slight possession upgrade from Gunnar to Polak.

Also, uh, vetrin presents and such.

Hopefully Polak can be that steady presence in our D, that we won't be pushovers anymore. And he'll probably be on 2nd pairing with one of young guns.

solid trade by the Pens IMO.

cant wait to see what other changes come.

i think Scuderi could get dumped for a late round pick in next years draft. if not, then my guess is Martin is out the door.

Sutter might find his way out of town, Spaling could end up the 3rd line center.

GMJR mentioned he has 4 guys lined up to sign on July 1st. lets see how that plays out.

im a fan of them bringing on Winnik, Boyle, Kulemin, and Malone (on a try out). might not be able to afford a few of them, but we shall see what happens.

It looks like Ehrhoff will be bought out. Apparently that recapture penalty was too much of an obstacle for him to be traded. He'd be number 1 on my wish list for the Wings in free agency.
