Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
Great info. But if there are not penalties or penalties don't work correctly.... I have no interest.
Any word on that?
Does the penalty slider work?
Honestly the only thing I care about at this point.

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
important to get this right... or the EASHL that has been going strong since 09 will be completely dead if notWhen specifically asked about manual goaltending, a producer told me that it's still “being tweaked”.
that and the sluggishness / 60 fps in terms of the gameplay are 2 most important things that I just read that need fixing or need to focus on most before launch imoLast edited by steveeee; 07-03-2014, 03:46 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
In my opinion this can be made better (the gameplay not the towels) with players weapons. The only sports game I have ever played where every player actually felt different was All-Pro Football (keep in mind I havent played and NBA 2K in years) The game featured no speed, catching or throwing attributes, they were all players based weapons. This could work for NHL.
For an example.
Ovechkin - Sniping, Rocket Shot, One Timer and Big Hit, Power Play Bonus (buffs abilities for the duration of the power play).
Toews - Back-checking, Stick Checking, Eagles Eye (vision based), and Pinpoint Passing.
Subban can have Backchecking, Rocket Shot, One Timer, Power Play Bonus.
Things like that can go a long way to making the game great. The only possible problem is the last time I can remember EA using player weapons they couldn't balance it out enough and it made the online games very unfun.Comment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
They actually tried that one year, I think it was NHL 2002, it ended up making the game play more arcadey than ever, granted if memory serves me right the shots in that game all traveled at about 200 mph.In my opinion this can be made better (the gameplay not the towels) with players weapons. Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
For some reason I dont trust EA Sports to do a weapon based system mainly because the times they have done they've integrated it with an attribute based system. If they want to do it correctly they have to get ride of spd, agi, str, slappower and number based attributes. It can work (NBA 2K series) but it always seems that ea gets too caught up in those attributes and it lessens the value of the actual weapons or abilities.Comment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
I agree that they need to make teams play differently instead of most games feeling the same. How do they do this? Maybe through some sort of coaching setting or strategy alignment. This is something most video-games struggle with except baseball, because that is a one on one matchup within a team sport.Pitchers and Catchers Report; Life Worth Living AgainComment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
nobody has even mentioned the pathetic goalies for the past 8 years. All the warping and no look saves. Goalies should have been redone long ago. but as you mentioned theres even issues with forwards all being identical and gameplay being a disappointment.I would take better realistic gameplay and differentiation in players/ teams over detailed fans and player models. I mean I remember nhl games on PC when certain players like Lemieux or Sakic or lines like legion of doom and detroits finesse team were on it was tough to defend against and it mattered. Hopefully EA gets this right.
Think at this point its time to just give up on this series. Its clear the team over there doesnt care for the hardcore fan. The casuals are the ones who buy this game anyways.
Damn show how 2k8 goalies are still miles ahead of EA. Just sucks the new techniques havent been replicated for gaming as 2k has left the game.Comment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
Thats what most 2k games strived for. Was playing 2k8 the other day and once hossa got the puck his puck control and balance stood out to me. he was a bull on the puck.
Im just more worried about goalies seeing attention...Comment

Re: NHL 15: Hands-On Impressions
I don't think EA knows how to program a game where ratings matter and everyone doesn't play the exact same.
I feel all their AI takes place based on difficulty first and foremost with attributes have an ever so minor effect on how they play.
