There is a "right" way and a back way into Blighty. I went the back way first and rang the bell before going through the sewer area and the two bosses. The sewers are great humanity farming spots with the rats. A cheap, but good way to kindle bonfires later in the game(15 or so Estus at a time is nice). Everyone hates Blighty . OS has a really nice Souls community, loved playing through DSII with everyone.

I wanted to join the Chaos covenant later so those humanity would be nice to have. Ima look through the pages to see if they can help me.

I learn that going up to 40 in one attribute is good and it lowers a lot after that.

Lautrecs armor only triggers if you follow the quest and kill him in Anor Londo. Also, its not a drop from him. You would find it laying at the dead end in the Chaos covenant room.

Finally made it to Anor Londo. I been going so slow with it. Finish searching blighttown as best as I could, them Completed sen fortress, and now Anor Londo. I'm level 58-62 I believe. But them Archers are annoying. Every time I get up to them they shoot me and knock me off. Taking a break.

How did yall get past Smough and Ornstein. I tried it twice but it hard. i knew it was but Ornstein is a beast once he is upgrade by smough. Gonna have to keep trying.

            Re: Dark Souls (PS3/360)

Just started this game since it was free on XBox Games with Gold. I'm about 8 hrs in, and it's still not clear to me if the game is actually "fun" or not...I mean, there is a sort of certain masochistic pleasure in trying to conquer sections of the game that seem unfair/impossible, but at the same time, how many times do I want to do the same thing over and over ad nauseum (still trying to get through the Undead Burg and Undead Parish part...for the last week).

I don't have a ton of time to play, and at some point, I wonder whether I'm better off just abandoning this thing and going for something that's a hell of a lot more "fun" in a traditional sense. I mean, challenge is one thing, but making a game that's completely unexplained and undocumented (other than by FAQ's and random posts on the Interwebs) just seems silly to me. I might give this game another few tries, but if if I'm just making no progress whatsoever....life's too short, right?

I found that having a shield that stops 100% physical damage and using the Drake sword(you could get from shooting the red dragon tale 20 Times) helped me get throughout it a lot better and faster. Blocking and waiting to attack is a good way to get through it also.

If you find your self not getting far and dying a lot then take a break. You could watch some videos to help you out if you need.

If your having trouble now then your gonna get annoyed with Blighttown and the Anor Londo Archers.

Can anyone give me tips for Smough and Ornstein. I heard their weak to fire.

Oh man are S&O a pain in the ***. I had to get help via a phantom to take them down. Smough isn't too bad if you can isolate him, you'll just have to fight a big version of Ornstein. Which one you kill last effects what armor set you'll be able to buy later, but I was just happy to have them dead on my first playthrough

I used phantoms my second time fighting them and I killed smooth but Super Ornstein is tough as hell. He killed all my phantoms and destroyed me. Every time I reverse hollow I get invaded which is annoying, so I tried to do it by myself.

The game is not that hard, you just have to play it with more patience, slower pace, studying your surroundings and enemies. The game doesn't tell you what you have to do or where you need to go, just like the games were back in the 8-bit era. Instead, the game gives you a tool to interact with other players indirectly, and they can help you, guiding you, giving tips and advices about battle tactics and warning you. There's another way to interact with other players, by summoning.

The item descriptions are very important in these games (the souls games) as they tell you the lore of the gameworld and even some advices.

The game actually is pretty hard, I think it's quite agreed upon by gamers. You specifically gave reasons in your statement above why it is hard. It requires an EXTREME amount of patience and study...which is why it is hard. Most gamers nowadays don't want that and just give up.

Well, I was a kid from the 1980's NES era, and games then were certainly hard, but what makes "Dark Souls" different in my opinion is that the objectives and rules are not intuitive or clear. That's an entirely different thing than a game like, say, "Ghosts'n'Goblins", which was hard as hell, but there was never any question about what you had to do or where you were supposed to go or what the rules of that world were. In fact, the game was designed well so it was relatively intuitive. Ditto for "Mega Man" or "Ninja Gaiden"; the games were punishingly hard, but never completely mystifying. I mean, the instruction manual doesn't even tell you what the individual stats/parameters mean, or that weapons degrade, or about 90% of the other things that are necessary to actually play the game. Heck, I didn't even know that the shopkeepers had more than just firebombs and orange signposts, because I didn't bother to hit "right" or accidentally ever hit the Right D-pad button whilst in a store.

I'll give the game another shot; appreciate the encouragement. But I sort of disagree with the notion that the game is a throwback of some sort. As someone who's played games and owned systems in every era, I would say that this is some kind of new, heretofore unseen type of game which relies heavily on alternative information sources and crowdsourced knowledge to make even basic progress or understand the simple boundaries of the game world. It's interesting if nothing else, but it's not for gaming dilettantes. Which, the older I get, the more I become...

Dark Souls doesn't hold your hand, that's for sure. If you're looking for a game to tell you what to do next, instead of exploring your own intuition, DS is not for you.
