EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions -
Operation Sports Forums
The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
I imagine this would be a conversation amongst the development cycle:
"Hey guys, I just ran a 3 round normal time round against Gus and he threw 434 strikes against me. In his five round real life fight against Jones he threw just shy of 300 strikes."

Response: "Cool, you want to get some pizza?"
Ive fought online ranked matched that had 400+ strikes thrown in 3 rounds, freaking unreal

I'll try and remember to look into it for you on Monday as I don't know off the top of my head.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I ended up being way busier this week that I expected.
So it looks like a significant strike in our game is a strike that causes damage above a particular threshold.
Since it's tied to damage it's not as simple as saying "this strike is a significant strike, and this one isn't", it will be influence by many factors.
But for the most part it would look like jabs are not significant strikes, and most other strikes will tend to be (still based on the damaged landed though).

Gameplaydev, could you give us some insight into why sometimes a transition is stopped/interrupted by a strike, and other times it is not?
Yeah...I wasn't really thrilled with how this turned out as people seem to find it confusing and I'm not surprised.
If you are postured up and you land a strike it will cancel the transition attempt
by the guy on the bottom.
If you are postured up and the guy on the bottom blocks your strike, the guy on the bottom will have a window where he can attempt a transition without worrying about a strike interrupting the transition.
If the guy on top is not postured up, a strike should never cancel a transition.
The idea was to try and mimic the mechanics around the parry where a successful parry give you a counter window, here a successful block would give you freedom to pass.
Unfortunately we don't really sell it with animations so it just ends up looking like the guy gave up on the transition.
I'd really like to get some different transition cancel animations in there that sell the fact that the strike was the reason for the failure, something like a bigger hit reaction as he falls back into the position.
But as of right now we don't have those animations.

I really think this game needs a favourite - underdog multiplier for online leaderboards. Maybe based on the fighters overall ratings. Imo it is just lame seeing most of the top ranked users grinding wins with fighters like Jones, Aldo, GSP, Werdum...
For example getting a win with Cung Le over Jon Jones should get you more points than vice versa.
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
One thing that would add to the game that doesnt get talked about much are ground position against the cage. There are many times where I take a guy down near the cage and he lands perfectly with his back up against the cage and then we just clumsily slide down together until he is on his back. A ton of ground work is done up against the cage and adding it to the game would have been a little thing that would add a more realistic feel.
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
I was 18-2 online until the game decided to have me get flash ko'd 4 times in 5 fights. I was winning all of them too. The one other I lost was against Jon Jones 30-27 decision. You literally can't do crap against him.
Ooop as I wrote this I just got flash ko'd again. Spinning back kick after spinning back kick. He was literally getting tooled in that fight. I dunno what the hell is going on.
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
Lol I got rocked by a spinning heel kick to the face by......Nick Diaz. A move which he's never done before. I ended up ko'ing him a little later but it's just because he missed the 3 follow up spinning heel kicks.
The only reason I'm getting so frustrated is the fact that I'm winning all of these fights & landing the harder punches yet I'm somehow getting rocked by the 3/10 punches that actually make it through my defense.
EDIT:
Alright I'm done with this game for a while. I saved the last fight I just got flashed in. Complete ****. Swanson (me) vs. Barao. I was giving this guy the business & he lands a straight right & I get rocked out of nowhere. There's no way of shooting for a TD when a guy is throwing bombs so I had to weather the storm & ended up eating another right to go out. What's killing me is that when I rock somebody they fall to the ground & I have to follow up for the finish. I don't remember the last time I flash ko'd an opponent. My record right now is 21-9 currently a purple belt.

its an arcade bud. I play unranked now and just laugh crap like that off. I fought a Nick Diaz who threw nothing but spinning back kicks as well. Best advice. Flick ls back stay out of range. Let him miss a bunch then go after him. Most just run away though till their stamina comes back. If they don't address permanent stamina game stays arcade. Simole as that
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
You can't block and recover stamina. Dash forward and throw basic strikes to force them to block and not recover stamina after they have drained it. Proper pressure can keep an opponents stamina low. I agree that it does recover too fast, and permenant stamins is a complete utter joke, but you can keep someone gassed. I do it a lot. Especially attacking the body because if they do let go of block landed body shots hurt stamina too. Going to the head won't drain much stamina, but it will keep it from regenerating.
Re: EA Sports UFC Available Now, Post Your Impressions
Fighters take WAY too much damage! I mean, there's only so many head kicks one man can take! The damage model was so much better in the THQ games. You couldn't take 30+ roundhouse kicks to the head. Has EA said if they plan on patching this or at least letting us have access to sliders to adjust damage?<br/>
