Re: Why The NFL 2K Series Was Truly Great And Why You Should Miss It
Remember it well. I grabbed the system but the store hadn't gotten 2K in yet but the KB store next door did. So I got my money back from them and went to KB.
Still have the Game mag that featured the 9.9.99 Dreamcast release.
I still have the Dreamcast games as well as 2K4 and 5.
Looking forward to Madden though.Last edited by Skyboxer; 07-18-2014, 02:29 PM.Joshua:

Not this again.
NFL 2K5 did a lot of cool things, but if it wasn't $20 I don't think I would have bought it. Or a bunch of others.
I hate the exclusive license crap as much as the next guy, but 2K5 is one of the two most overrated, over reminisced games of all time, along with WWF No Mercy (king of slowdown and cheap AI.)Comment

2k5 has some features that EA has yet to implement into madden to this day

Re: Why The NFL 2K Series Was Truly Great And Why You Should Miss It
Great article! You know, its actually kind of sad how that all went down for sports gamers. I was in my early 30's then and I remember being a beta tester for the game went it debuted its online functionality. I believe that was why...That was really cool. I was in some amazing leagues with NFL 2k5. While the deep ball had its issues, it was still a very addictive game. I was crushed when I first heard the news about the exclusivity. lol Sad day for sure that really changed football games for some many kids and young adults. Who knows where football games would be today with competition. Sadly, we may never know.Comment

NFL 2k5 was an amazing game. The fact that it was only 20 bucks made it that much more of a steal to me. I purchased all three football games (NCAA, Madden, 2K) that year and 2K easily trumped the other two. I liked their strategy of giving people an incentive to just try their game. It's why I tried it, honestly. It shows confidence and I would have loved to have been able to see what the numbers for NFL2K6 looked like at full retail after having more people demo 2K football. Not this again.

Also, WWF No Mercy (along with Wrestlemania 2000) is another great sports title that trumps modern attempts.Comment

*sigh*
I still don't understand why they don't start making 2K football again. I couldn't possibly care any less about the NFL license. The ability to edit detail about all players and teams is WAY more important to me. My current football game is Madden 13 for Wii, in which I've used spreadsheets to create completely random players. So yeah, don't care even a little about having real players. And with the ability to edit everything, you can make them if you want.Comment

Still have an original XBOX and still have my 2K5 with classic 80's and 90's rosters. The game is great. Always has been always will be. I do play it from time to time for some nostalgia. Bar none the best presentation ever in a football game.
