They did get rights to TD Garden last year. With how their pushing "authentic arenas" this year I would imagine that they likely paid whatever licensing cost for all 30 and just bit the bullet on it. I think you're right in that they're likely saving United Center, have they ever had the proper lettering for that arena at all in past years?

I'm going to guess probably not. As much as I'd love to see it as well, they'd have to get special permission from every party on the Ring of Honor in order to put their name or likeness in the game.Comment

I disagree but do understand where you're coming from. The reason I say it's basically all or nothing is because NHL hasn't had every arena fully licensed this generation if I'm not mistaken. They've made it this far without having had that so I'm sure they could have gone longer without it affecting sales. I mean seriously how many people aren't going to buy the game because United Center, MSG (obviously now licensed), etc. aren't licensed? There's not many. Yes it's been very annoying not having those famous arenas licensed but those issues can be overlooked by many people because they either already enjoy the game or have many issues higher on their list that need fixing. Now maybe if a couple of the less popular arenas were missing they may have still made this a feature, but if you don't have the license for the United Center you have kind of screwed yourself a little bit on promoting the feature just because of its popularity.
I would be willing to bet that if EA were unable to lock down the licenses of those arenas they didn't have previously licensed, no way in heck are they promoting authentic arenas in this years version. They'd look stupid especially since two of those arenas (MSG and the UC) are two of the most famous in America. It was either get those big time licenses or authentic arenas won't be a marketing tactic or "big time" feature.Last edited by bwiggy33; 07-20-2014, 10:49 PM.NHL-Minnesota Wild

I absolutely agree with the bolded part -- they'll totally look like fools if a place like the United Center has a generic name. As a Rangers fan, though, I'm really glad that they finally have MSG in the game.

Absolutely agree. It was long past due just like United Center as well. As a big time Sharks fan I'm very happy to see SAP is as well. I guess this is all moot for me because I still will not buy this game unless neutral zone pressure is fixed.NHL-Minnesota Wild

I hope you are right about them saving the UC screenshot for later. In the video released today, Kane was in it and they were at home, but they purposely didn't show center ice, that kind of worries me. However, I don't think they would be bragging about authentic arenas if they didn't have the rights to all of them.Comment
