BASIC RULES
- 82 Game season
- 12 minute quarters
- Playoff Length 7-7-7-7
- Real life trades & Rosters (Season 1)
- Hall Of Fame Simulation Difficulty
- We will play 3-4 games per week. We will open all games but to keep league close together each team will have to have played a certain number of games before they precede. (see below example)
- Every owner will need to have and stream all games on TWITCH (for the purpose of scouting as well as making sure games are sim)
- Season starts October 31st (gives us time to edit rosters and get a good slider set in stone as well as get owners used to new game and new controls, plays, etc)
We will play 3-5 games per week. We will open all games but to keep the league close together with each team. You will have to have played a certain number of games before in a period of time to precede without having any games simmed. So for example, let's say everyone needs to play between 6-10 games within a 14 day period (2 weeks). If you are at 5 with no excuses or trying to get games in we will sim to get you to at the very least the 6 game mark. This will also be a summed game that will be a loss. This keeps the league close together. After 1 warning you will need to catch up in the next 2 week period to be above the minimum amount of games played. This way we don't have guys by the end of the season as half the league has played 82 games and we have half the league at 65 games played and waiting to start the playoffs. There is nothing more annoying than that.
One thing we like to do here as a league and as commissioners is to have each team owner play with their favorite team or a team where they come from or were born. We don't draft team's. We have found this to be a secret to success with keeping players in leagues for the long term if they have an affiliation with the city or team they are playing with. We have a list of about 10 guys we have all played with each other over the last 5-6 years in either madden or NBA 2k leagues or both. Every guy we have plays with their home town team.
Im 39 years old and we want a good group of adults who are respectful to each other and just want to have a fun and very competitive league. We hope we can get and keep a good group of guys that we can carry into future season's of 2k every year. There will be 3 commissioners (see asterisk below) in this league to assure things go smoothly. We will all work on a good slider set once the game comes out. We always listen to the league owners and all suggestions. I am a bit of a freak when it comes to sliders and am constantly reading findings in slider section on OS. As we know every game is different.
Forum activity is a must for all league members. Checking in on the forums daily will keep us all in the loop and progressing this league at a decent pace. Those who fail to stay active here on the OS boards will be removed. We are an OS league, this is our main place for communication. We will run the league here at OS and have a sub forum where we can all connect on league news, polls, votes, questions, concerns, schedule games with each other, have team threads, Players of the week, month, year, etc.
We don't want to have to have rules in place as we just want you to play real basketball you see on TV, but we obviously have to have a few rules set in place to avoid confrontation and confusion on ones definition of SIM to another. These are always open to discussion.
More Basic Rules
1) Run an offense. Learn your team. Learn what plays puts your players in the best position to succeed. Running into the paint and kicking out is not an offense. Flinging the ball looking to fastbreak every time you touch the ball is not an offense. We do expect you to run plays at least 50% of the time. This can even consist of PNR and post-up's as that is the majority of what the league does anyways. What we don't want is spread the floor and iso every time down.
2) Points in the Paint. Your points in the paint should not exceed 50% of your team's total. If you're mixing up your shot selection this shouldn't be an issue. Fast break and second chance points will be deducted from this total. We are not strict on this as obviously if you are playing against someone who is giving you the drive or can not stay in front of you then you take what the defense gives you and from game to game it might vary. But we do expect to look at the shot chart and see some sort of balance with mid range and 3 pt shots mixed in. You shouldn't have 70 pip every game you play. Just play SIM.
3) Riding Stars. Its ok to get your stars involved but shot/scoring distribution should be evenly spread. The 5 year NBA average for FGA one player takes is 22 per game -- thats not including shots the player was fouled on. If we can keep our shot attempts around that number, no one can complain about gunning with stars. If the game goes into overtime or the player is clearly on fire, this rule is lifted. Obviously if a guy is hot you feed him, and of course there might be games where someone shoots over 30x but the AVERAGE over a period and number of games should not exceed 30 shots per game.
4) 3 point attempts. The 5 year NBA average for team attempts is 27 per game for a team. Lets keep it around those numbers. We will cap it at 36 attempts per game (9 per quarter), but If the game goes to overtime or a player gets hot you may exceed the max. Obviously it's a game by game thing and really we are looking at your average 3 pt attempts for a season to be around the 27 attempts mark and not 36 per game.
5) Rotation. Players may only play their primary or secondary positions. Starters must sit at some point in the game -- starters are to average no more than 43 minutes per game.
6) On Ball Defense. You can play on ball or off ball. We have no rules here. To each their own. We don't want 30 teams who all play the same.
7) Zone defense. Should be used sparingly, not as a base. Once you are in the zone you must control the player closest to the ball. You can only use zone for 6 minutes max per game.
8) Pressing/Traps. Are only allowed with 4 minutes or less left in the 4th quarter. The offensive team is allowed to push the tempo as much as they'd like in this scenario.
