It makes perfect business sense with EA JUST having heavily marketed their "EA Access Hub". Really not surprising as the lack of a demo will probably drive up sales a tick for their new season ticket/EA Access deal.


Doesn't matter to me. Im gonna buy the game either way because im a football junkie. Even more so this year because guys like me are really missing an NCAA football game. Usually NCAA would hold me over just fine until the Madden release. Probably gonna grab the early access too as I have a problem with patience. lol.

By far the hardest part about this years wait for Madden is not having NCAA. A title that is IMO much stronger than Madden when it comes to AI, Sliders and overall replayability.

Yes there was Season Ticket and a Demo last year, but EA wised up this year and decided to just cash in.





And yes, a Full but Limited version of a game is effectively a DEMO.

In my opinion a demo is not what you described. The typical is typical 2 teams in a shortened game. That in no way represents a full but limited version. When you say full but limited I think more along the lines of a trial version, because in no way has EA every provided is a full but limited demo. Just my opinion.

It kinda reminds me of movie companies that refuse to preview their movies with the movie critics.....one thing is a constant, all those movies suck. Question here is, what are they hiding? I think I'll wait for a bit before I lay out my cash.

Maybe it's just me, but to accuse Tiburon of hiding something when they've live-streamed their game being played at least three times now (gameplay, presentation, and CFM broadcasts on Twitch) without any smoke-and-mirrors editing, post-production touch-ups, non-gameplay camera angles, or anything else doesn't make sense to me.

If anything, we've seen more of a Madden NFL game prior to release this year than any year previous in the history of the series. We've seen the game being played live, we know what it's going to entail.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to have a demo, I very much would. I want to play the game. It appears it's not in the cards, however.

Why would they put a demo out? So a bunch of constant bitchers could rip apart an early build and bash the hell out of EA like happens every year. I have been buying this game every year since Sega Genesis. There have been up years and down years, but not every year is the worst version like I constantly read people posting. There is a difference between constructive criticism and bashing.

I just saw the update that an EA rep gave to polygon lol. They could have given us the demo from E3 or even Comic con.

Not really, those types of builds typically arent ready for mass consumption and people are there ready to resolve any problems should there be crashes, freezing, etc.

No, I have not played the game. However, Tiburon has gone well out of their way to educate gamers about exactly what they are buying this year.

I'm already buying the game, personally, so the lack of demo is a mild disappointment, but it's not something from which I'm going to try and draw any subliminal message.

True. Producing a demo is serious and expensive business that the general gamer isn't aware of. In many cases, it can be akin to producing a separate game. That's why I wince when I hear people complain about Kickstarter projects and general indie games not having them. Just tells me the industry hasn't done much to educate gamers on how these things work.

That said, it seems like demos at the AAA level are getting lean this generation, and I don't like it one bit. Overall, it seems like EA/Tiburon is trimming the fat from their marketing and at the same time trying to avoid over-saturation. We'll see how that works sales-wise this year.

This is interesting timing. I am not sure the last time EA decided to not release a Madden demo. Might this mean that real effort went into the game. Lets see.

There's a report on joystiq saying only EA Access membership will grant you a demo. Don't know if it's true but I was never one to get into knocking companies and such but if true kinda low by EA imo.

They've shown the game, but even then, it's looked so different in broadcasts. It looked great and I was on the fence and looking forward to more info.

Then they broadcast it again and the game looks bad. I'm not talking washed out colors either. I am talking no missed passes, the same legacy issues we've always seen that were absent in the first video, the lack of the new features actually appearing. It's almost like they turned up the frequency for all of their new features to show up a ton in the first broadcast, then we got the real picture in the last two. Now I know that it doesn't work like that at all, but it's just incredible how different this game can look in each video.

I've learned my lesson. EA didn't get my purchase last year. I rented it from GameFly and thought it was okay. TrueStep was a good addition and had me extremely excited. However, unlike the typical EA, TrueStep has received no attention in year 2. Yes, that was sarcasm. It absolutely kills my hype for the series even more to see something so great receive nothing. Maybe it got a tweak here, a tweak there, I doubt it, but it definitely didn't get a year's worth of work in my eyes.

It's also just amazing to me how EA still has yet to learn their lesson. How many features are they going to add for the User and not the CPU too? We're in 2014 and the AI is finally making pre-play adjustments. That just depresses me. Madden is built to be a H2H game and I am finally seeing that. This new team can say what they want, and a few things I actually believe from them, but overall, Tiburon is still Tiburon and the overall progression of this game is so far behind the rest of the industry that it's embarrassing. I've got games I'm playing on the PC with only 4 people developing it and I've seen more additions to it in 3 months than I saw in the last 3 years of Madden. 4 whole people.

You know what though? I love football and I could be wrong about this new team. I won't know though because EA isn't letting out a demo. I know I am not the only person either in this situation, but who knows if me and the 'group' I belong to will make any dent in sales. To me, a company randomly stopping their tradition of releasing a demo does not give me any hope at all. Just last year this same exact company released one for Live to give gamers an idea of the additions to the game from the last one years ago, and now they are completely flip flopped from letting gamers get a feel? Yea, I don't like that one bit. Complaining won't change a thing now.

The videos definitely don't give the same sort of awareness as a demo. That being said, I've never based a purchase off of a demo anyway.
