New Ownership Emerges
Philadelphia, PA - Everyone inside and outside of Greater Philadelphia know the story of the 2013 Eagles. After finishing 4-12 during the 2012 season ownership had enough of Andy Reid and jettisoned the heralded coach out the door. A search began and after months of trial and error it was Chip Kelly who was handed the reigns of his first professional football team in the NFL. Kelly came to Philadelphia after spending years at the helm of the Oregon Ducks raising the team to the top of college football by architecturing a new way of doing things. His style earned the coach praise and brought such names as Bill Belichick & Urban Myers to his doorstep hoping to study his way of doing things. His first year guiding the Eagles was easily a success as the team flew to a record of 10-6, winning the NFC East crown in his first try and taking a trip to the playoffs where the team unfortunately met a first round exit. Prior to the kick-off of the 2013 season, owner Jeffrie Lurie announced he would be selling the franchise after being the principle owner since 1994. All throughout the season a cloud lingered over the team as to who would purchase the team and then what that would mean for each and every employee of the Eagles from upper management, to players and coaches to even those working at the stadium on game day. This morning a press conference was held at the NovaCare Center to announce the sale of the team and introduce the new owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. Edison Dobbs, self-made billionaire, will be taking over for Jeffrie Lurie starting immediately. The eccentric 60-year old was cordial as well as humorous on this exciting day and was not shy about discussing the future of this franchise.
"I purchased this team for two reasons. The first being I want to bring many championships to the city of Brotherly Love and as someone who is not a coach or player the only way to do so is by purchasing the team and setting forth a new organizational standard. While I cannot commit to the footing of all employees of this great franchise, I can say this ... no one on the football team is safe, not the players nor the coaches. I want to put the best possible team out on the playing field and if that means I need to get rid of Nick Foles or add a talented Wide Receiver, those in the front office will have the mandate to do so. You fan can expect to see an exciting football team every Sunday and they will be a team that competes from the first whistle until the final seconds tick off the game clock. It's time to get to work," stated a very excited new owner of the Philadelphia Eagles.
