7th Annual Gamefaqs Pick 'Em: Week 1

Hey guys, I've run a pick 'em over on Gamefaqs for a few years, and I'm trying to get more involvement.

I'm going to copy the topic here (as well as a couple other sports gaming forums). You are more than welcome to pick here. This year, I'm going to give out up to $60 in Steam or Origin PC games. The winner of the regular season and bowl game playoff will receive one game up to a value of $30 each of their choice on either Steam or Origin (I coordinate with the player individually). Note that this pick 'em will involve cross-site competition.

Each week, I will post 15 games. Each week, you as a player will pick who you think will win those 15 games. The more you get right, the more points you get.

To allow for people to miss a week without heavy penalties, the lowest week score at the end of the regular season will be dropped for everyone to determine the playoff score.

In order to ensure a regular format, assume the following games (THIS IS NOT THE WEEK 1 GAMES LIST)

    West Virginia @ Pittsburgh
    !Alabama @ Oregon!
    *UCLA vs. Louisiana St.*

The first game (WVU/Pitt) is a normal game. The second game (Bama/Oregon) is worth 2-points instead of 1 (as denoted by the !). This is typically done for the "game of the week." UCLA vs. Louisiana St. is a neutral site game, as denoted by the vs. and *. These games are worth no more points, I just denote it clearly so people can know it is a neutral location.

Here is how you would make your picks if you picked the first team in all cases.

    West Virginia
    Alabama
    UCLA

    Do NOT do the following:

    WVU
    Bammers
    Bruins

Here's why: I score the Pick 'em by computer. I do NOT have the time to go through 50ish picks a week a write them all down one at a time. The entire process is computerized. This means:

THE TEAM NAMES MUST BE EXACTLY AS I POST THEM

To do this, generally, it is best to copy and past the games in full, then delete the teams you do not think will win.

Let me be clear: if you do not write the team names exactly, YOU WILL NOT GET POINTS.

Additionally note, it is one team per line. This is very important. Do not leave extra line spaces, as my program is dependent on the formatting. Thus

    West Virginia, Alabama, and UCLA

    Would NOT be acceptable.

    ===========================================

Here are the Week 1 games:

    Texas A&M @ South Carolina
    Wake Forest @ UL Monroe
    *Boise St. vs. Ole Miss*
    *Rutgers vs. Washington St.*
    *Penn St. vs. UCF*
North Dakota St. @ Iowa St.
    W. Michigan @ Purdue
    California @ Northwestern
    !Clemson @ Georgia!
    Ohio @ Kent St.
    Fresno St. @ USC
    *Florida St. vs. Oklahoma St.*
    *Wisconsin vs. LSU*
    Utah St. @ Tennessee
    Miami (FL) @ Louisville

I think the pick 'em that Tovarich has done for the last several years is more than enough for OS, just my opinion.

    Oh, and this...

My understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that if I said "I will only take posts there", that would be advertising. Since I would accept picks here, I wouldn't think that would be advertising, as it is not my intent to "steal" traffic. To be safe, I have removed the link. Thank you for bringing that up. Also, I don't to gain anything from more people participating, as there is no buy-in, other than the enjoyment of better competition.

If the topic need be renamed, I would be happy to do so.

Let a mod decide that. I was just pointing out that Tovarich has done a hell of a job as the only pick 'em. And the link possibly getting you banned, but you fixed that.
