How do Schemes Impact Players in Connected Franchise?

I don't quite understand how schemes affect player performance in Connected Franchise. If I play a 3-4 OLB in a 4-3 Scheme, will he perform poorly because he isn't in his preferred scheme? Will he take a massive awareness hit or something?

I understand that typically a 3-4 OLB has the skill set of a pass rusher, so he wouldn't be ideal for a 4-3 OLB. But I guess my main question is, will a player's ratings and on-field performance be reduced if he is in the wrong scheme?

The only reduced rating should be overall, as far as I understand. It doesn't change any attributes, it just helps give you an idea if a guy is a good fit for the scheme you run

So if I understand correctly, scheme is essentially just a recommendation for how the player's skills would fit into my system?

Yes it basically gives you an idea of how his relevant skills match up with your scheme. If Aldon Smith got traded to Tampa Bay and put at OLB, his skills would all be the same, but they wouldn't get much use out of him since he would be dropping in coverage most of the time

Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted to know, thanks! I like to play a 4-3 defense and blitz my ROLB a good 90% of the time on 1st/2nd down, so it makes sense that I put the "typical" 3-4 OLB who has good pass rushing skills in that position.

You could just set the individual 'rolb' scheme setting to 3-4 pass rusher and see an accurate overall.

Didn't play last year so not sure how this changed. How do you change your schemes this year? Thanks in advance for newb question.

They scheme impacts the player a lot that's why you have to have a player that fits your scheme I think there overall drops a little to if its not the right scheme

A coach's Player Scheme settings affect the OVR rating calculation for that position for that team. For example, changing my coach's ROLB player scheme setting from "3-4 Pass Rusher" to "Cover 2", the way that the OVR rating is calculated for all ROLBs for me changes, taking emphasis away from pass rushing attributes and giving more weight to coverage attributes. That change is applied throughout the CFM frontend on the View Roster, Depth Chart, Scouting, Sign Free Agents, and Trade Hub screens. This setting also affects how the CPU values players; the OVR rating calculation changes happen for CPU teams as well based on each coach's Player Scheme settings, and thus how those teams manage their rosters is changed.

A coach's Team Scheme settings for offense and defense influence player progression. If a player's team scheme setting matches that of your coach, he will receive XP discounts when purchasing certain ratings packages (typically AWR and other mental attributes). Matches and mismatches between a team's offensive / defensive scheme and that of players also influences how players weigh contract offers during offseason unrestricted free agency; they place more value on offers from teams with good scheme fits as compared to teams with poor scheme fits.

In no way do any of these settings affect how a player performs on the field and they do not directly change his ratings. They are purely for team-building and roster management purposes.

I don't know if this was in last year's version, but I noticed they now have preferences for WR3 and DB3 that you can select, however they don't seem to work correctly. With the Bears I have WR 1 and 2 set to possession WRs and WR3 as a route runner, but when I look at my depth chart it has all of my WRs rated as if I prefer possession WRs and it makes Santonio Holmes a 74 overall. If I change them all to route runner, my #3 goes from a 74 to an 82, even though I never changed the preference of my #3 WR. It's not a huge deal because I don't pay attention to overall that much, but it can cause some confusion

It was the same last year that is how it worked as well. The only thing that mattered was what the WR1, CB1, etc was set at.
