What upgrades do you focus on? Development or attributes?

Was wondering what peoples plan of attack is for this, is it better to upgrade the development of players trait before their attributes? Also are the coach traits worth it also. The extra xp upgrades etc

For players it depends on type of guy they are. As a coach i always get the double scouting points first. Then go xp gains for whatever position needs the most help at the time. I never raise a players development. If he has normal development when he is drafted thats what he will have when he leaves my team.

For my coach scouting points upgrade first. After that will depend on what my team needs are.

With players I choose only one on offense and one on defense to upgrade development to superstar over the course of 2-3 seasons. Typically it will be my highest conviction youngsters.

I only use XP after the season is complete and going into pre-season. I do the same for the CPU.

Keeps things far more balanced IMO.

I like the ideas of HozAndMoose and Armor & Sword, where they constrain their use of the XP system for the sake of realism, I could never do it. I have too much fun earning and spending XP.

I just finished up the first year of my Steelers CFM. The approach I've been taking was to first decide if I planned to keep a player long term. If the answer is yes, and that player is young (meaning they still get decent XP for hitting their goals), then I would go development over attributes. I did this with Cam Heyward, Le'Veon Bell, Ryan Shazier, and Cortez Allen. Everyone else I went with attributes.

Pretty much the same way that I play it. I usually have my QB or a stud WR as the superstar development and then whatever guy on D was my highest draft pick. I usually do all my XP right before I start free agency that way I know exactly what positional needs I have. Keeps it a little more realistic for me.

            I go for development if they're no older than 24. I turned a 68 ovr LT into a 95 ovr after a season and he's only 21.

So it's worth pumping the xp in for development trait upgrade?
What about the coach xp upgrades? Anyone used them?

Couldn't agree more. Always under 24. I won't do it if they don't have high levels though in the main attributes to that position. Cost too much.

It's worth it and it gives you extra xp for player drills. An 8 hr simulated drill for my RE for example with the coach xp upgrade gives me 1,000 xp nearly every time.

But if you have to pick which coach upgrade to buy first, I'd save up and get the double scouting points perk.

Re: What upgrades do you focus on? Development or attributes?

Doesn't it make sense to buy the "Package Discount" package for your Coach first?

It gives you a 25% discount and costs 7500 XP. The "Double Scouting Points" package costs 7500 XP too. So if I buy the Discount first I save 1875 XP on the Scouting Points package. Then Player Training Upgrade for 4125 instead of 5500 = 3250 savings so far. Each Position XP Upgrade costs between 3300 and 5000 normally which would then be a savings of 825 or 1250 per position.

So that means after buying the Scouting Points, Training Upgrade and 4 positional upgrades I get my investment back. After that I'm saving 25% on each package. With the amount of packages there are in the long run it seems to be the best choice to get the "Package Discount" first.

My question is how long will it take to earn enough XP (roughly 35000 XP) to get my Return on Investment for the Discount Package? I guess if it takes 3+ years to earn that much XP then it makes no sense to get the Package Discount in an online CFM.

So I just started a 49ers franchise and I want to upgrade players.

Is it more economical to upgrade to the Superstar Dev trait on someone (i.e. Colin Kaepernick) and THEN upgrade ability points?... or is it diminished returns since he is already 26... and I should just use all my points in his ability points?

What is the most "bang for the buck"?

Now that I've had time to mess with CFM more, I wouldn't even bother with the double scouting points for your coach. At least not with a created coach or unless you just love to draft. At first I thought this was the way to go also, not anymore.

When it comes to game prep training, having the progression package for your coach is the same as having a fast/star on your player. Of course having both is nice too. Anyway, what you want to do is this:

-Pick the style of coach that gets you discounts on player progression packages if you create a coach.

-Buy the coach discount package to get 25% off everything else. It only costs 5625 with this type of coach, so you should be able to get it in your 1st year.

-Then you can unlock progression traits for around 4k a piece. I would unlock CB/WR first so it affects more than 1 or 2 players on your team.

I ended up completely pumping all game prep into bene benwikere and bumped him upto star. If u plan on playing a few years then yeh go for it as he now gets around 800+ xp for just 8hr drills. Someone like kaep u could get to superstar in no time at all

                              My personal rule of thumb:

                              <24 years old = Development Trait/Consistency
                              >24 years old = Key Stats/Overall Rating

QBs have a longer shelf life so 26 might still be young enough to invest into development traits and turn a profit, XP-wise, over the course of their career.
