Professional GK Career Of Andrew Kuz

With all the wild transfers going on for Southampton, they capped it off by signing 19 year old GK Andrew Kuz out of the United States. The 6,2" 174 lb. goalie has a traditional goalkeeping approach and will look to see if he can take over the starting role at Southampton. The team has arguably one of the best youth systems in the Premier League, and we'll see if Southampton can develop Kuz into a special player.

    Southampton vs. Grananda

The Saints played well in their first preseason match, managing to hold on to the win after Dusan Tadic netted a goal in the 55th minute for Southampton. Andrew Kuz played well, earning a clean sheet in his first professional game. He wasn't challenged too much catching 4 shots, with 2 parried attempts. He finished with a 6.2 match rating, and will look to improve in his next start.

    FC Metz vs. Southampton

The Saints came out strong on the road early on, scoring a goal in the 5th minute with Wanyama finding a cross and calmly heading it past Oberhauser. In the 10th minute, with great tiki taka passing resembling that of Barcelona, Wanyama found himself on the edge of the box, placing the ball past the keeper to the bottom right corner. 2-0 Saints! Just after halftime Krivets blasted a shot for Menz blasted a shot from outside the box to beat Kuz, making it a 2-1 game. In the 86th minute Kuz did well to block a header on a dangerous cross, but failed to save a rebound attempt from Krivets. 2-2. Kuz finished with a 6.1 rating, catching 1 shot with 2 parried attempts.

    Southampton vs. Barcelona

In what many people thought would a rout for Barcelona, with the likes of Neymar, Messi, and many other superstars starting, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Manager Ronald Koeman was impressed with the teams play, and will be a great confidence boost heading into the Premier League opener against Liverpool next weekend. Andrew Kuz finished with a 6.8 match rating.

      Managers Notes-

The next few fixtures, Koeman stated he sees his squad having a tough time against one of two of the clubs, but he believes the club should pick up a few points. Southampton faces Liverpool away, West Brom at home, West Ham on the road, then finish with Newcastle at home.

As expected, Andrew Kuz will be making his debut in the Premier League after starting all three preseason friendlies. After denying multiple loan deals, Koeman stated that Kuz gives the team the best chance of winning. Koeman expects Kuz to have a minimum rating of 6.0, with 1 clean sheet and exceeding no more than 0.4 goals during this slate of games.

The Saints came marching into Anfield and stole all three points from Liverpool in the season opener. Shane Long netted his first goal of the season in the 49', and that was enough to secure all three points for the Saints. Andrew Kuz played well throughout the game, preventing every cross that came into the box. He finished with 3 saves on the day.
