Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
I beg to differ, but that's just my opinion.
Totally disagree with this! I have seen a great range of goals scored. Furthermore I do get the sense that anything is possible :-)Originally posted by TobyRSadly, goalscoring still feels a little on the repetitive side. Compared to real football, which continually reinforces an idea of anything being possibleComment

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
I'd say you're both right. I agree with you that the variety and possibilities in this game are the best of any football game yet.
That said, I think his point is that there are certain goals, like in past FIFAs, that are easier to score than others, and especially when playing online people tend to go for these the most. For example the long range shot exploit, or say long pass made to a forward, then sprint to goal for easy shot. Rebound goals are frequent too, and too many chances are created by passing moves of three or less passes.
Meanwhile, counter-attack play is the predominate form of attack in this game, and they've nerfed crossing so wing play is less effective now while playing up the middle with nice dribbling and passing moves is a bit too easy.
So yeah, I see tons of variety in FIFA 15, goals and collisions and situations never seen in a game before, but I do agree with him that gameplay can, especially online, degrade into a few familiar patterns.
Everyone is going to have their opinions on whether the game is fun and satisfying, but what I like about his review is he's one of the few that takes the time to break down where the game needs to get better and why. Whereas most other reviews this year just say it's fun but imbalanced or hasn't improved greatly and leave it at that.Comment

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
Not really an impression, but one of the most satisfying goals of my life today...
I was just doing some random online games with USMNT, and I got matched up with Liverpool. This guy was a total tool, talking constantly (pretty vulgar, too) he keeps telling me how I'm NEVER going to beat Liverpool with USA. And keeps telling me to get on the mic.
I plugged my mic in and said "I'm plugging my mic in so I don't have to listen to you anymore..." I took off the headset before he could finish his smartass reply. Plugged my iPod into the stereo, and blared some Tool with the headset next to the speaker, just to annoy him right back (unless he's a Tool fan, I suppose)
He scored in the 56th minute off of a corner. Pissed me off because I just knew he was talking ****, of course he watched every replay and all that.
He was your typical online player, and he had a better team than I did, so I was getting frustrated. But I was doing pretty well holding possession and getting some nice chances.
In the 80th minute I switched to Ultra Attacking + High Pressure.
Caught him on the counter, and scored with Dempsey in about the 4th minute of stoppage time, to tie it at 1. Game was over at the kickoff, of course after I watched all the replays of the goal, I assumed that since he watched his, he'd want to watch mine as well
It was not a win, but damn, that was probably the most satisfying draw of my life, haha.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

This is from my sliders thread, but it does explain a bit on how the game works on default, and how we can remedy certain things. I loved the review on futhead - and I believe this goes a bit in line with what he mentioned.

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
Drop CPU attacking runs to 40, increase pass error to 60 and first touch error to 65. On slow speed with 15 minute halves for some reason the AI slows the game right down.
It's almost as if the game is coded to have the same amount of attacking chances in a 10 minute half as a 15 ... leaving the 10 minute games frenetic while the 15 min halves allow both you and the CPU to build up.
I'm seeing the CPU build up and play possession football. They knock it around at times from wing to wing and wait for me to make a defensive mistake or over commit and leave a hole behind and the attack it.Comment

Firstly, hello. First time poster here.
I have to say that review is spot on. For all the things that the game does right, there's so many others that are just plain ridiculous.
I think my personal biggest bugbear is that, when the defending AI clears a cross, either from a corner or open play, almost inevitably their clearance will fall right to the feet of their attacking player, even if they only have one forward versus three or four defenders.
Granted, a smart attacker might be able to anticipate where clearances will land, but not every time.Comment

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
This is a huge issue for me. The no look, pinpoint 40 meter clearances that occurred in 14 are much much better in 15, but it's not anywhere near as good as the Brasil World Cup game.Firstly, hello. First time poster here.

The reason for this has a lot to do with the CPU players being able to instantly & perfectly determine the exact landing position of a clearance and either be in that spot or be the first player to that spot.
In real football players will misjudge the spot a ball lands, and this causes them to scramble to get a good touch on the ball, moreless perfectly control it.
In FIFA'15 an attacker will make a 10 meter run to a clearance and take a world class 1st touch, trap the ball, pivot in one seamless motion and gallop off towards my goal ~ off to the races!! If EA could simply could increase the ball clearance landing radius (i.e. CPU players have more probability to misjudge the ball landing spot) it would cause more 50/50 balls, less instant possession on clearances, less counter attacks from clearances and a more slowly paced game. Watch a game on TV and pay attention to how players treat & handle 40-50 meter clearances near midfield.....there's lot's of hectic, frentic scrambling to win the ball, poor touches, passes to nowhere, and a general "fight" for possession between attackers & the back 4.
I try to mimic this by increasing the CPU 1st touch error, but it doesn't remedy the fact that the CPU has an uncanny ability to locate exactly where to be on a upfield clearance. Increasing the line height also seems to help a bit, as it places your back 4 closer to the action, instead of leaving them stranded way back towards their own box.Comment

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
What makes matters worse for me on the clears is that the CPU attacker is the only one on the pitch that is able to judge the clearance because I have like three of my guys sprinting forward into the box while watching the ball going the other way. The clearance combined with stupid AI in these situations is the one thing for me that is irritating because it's only been happening since I can remember in fifa.Firstly, hello. Similarly, my punts or lobs are usually won by the opponent and 2 of my midfielders still Sprint forward looking back as the ai is sprinting open room towards my backline.

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)
And here is where you go WTF?
Because in the 15 demo this didn't happen on the cpu clearances. What did happen, and wow was I so glad to see it, was that the attacker would let the ball bounce as they were judging it. And then they would gather it in various ways, cleanly one time, a bit miss-hit another, knocked forward too far the next. It looked great.
So this begs the question, obviously the demo coding for this leaned more towards the WC game, then the Full game lands and looks like just a slightly tweaked FIFA 14 in regards to this.
Why can't they just keep progressing the gameplay? There were some excellent ideas in the WC game and why wouldn't FIFA 14 morph into WC which morphs into FIFA 15?
Another example of WC better-ness, the ball was looser around the pitch. Meaning less ball going right to someones feet going right to someones feet and on and on. And rarely did I see the FIFA crime of toe poke that goes right to the CPU help side defender in WC, the ball actually would be deflected somewhere where both players had to fight to go win it back.
There was much more a sense of space and how the ball flows into it and how momentum keeps the ball pinned in areas in the WC game as opposed to the FIFA way of the ball gets ping ponged to the feet of players who drag it into the space. I think the main thing I don't get is how was the WC game even made? Who coded that? And why didn't they help on FIFA? And if they did, what happened?
If there was one thing I would do if I was in charge at EA it would be to make certain that things were not removed from games, and second to that I would make sure all sports titles shared assets. Another example, FIFA FUT works better than all the other sports games FUTs. Mechanically (when it works) I mean. Why isn't every UT the same, mechanically, in all EA titles?Last edited by BL8001; 10-01-2014, 09:17 AM.resident curmudgeonComment

Yep, this is one of the worst exploits this year, and you see it regularly by online players. You'll be in attack, your opponent will win possession or their keeper will make a save, and then a quick long clearance to a wide open forward sets up an easy counter-attack.Firstly, hello. First time poster here.

This tactic/exploit is even more effective this year because dribbling is so improved that fast forwards can toast defenders for an easy shot on goal. It's one of the key ways that leads to an unbalanced game this year and has ruined quite a number of online matches for me.
For a game that attempts to be a sim, and achieves that in so many great ways, it's undermined by some pretty poor exploits and imbalances.Last edited by mfp; 10-01-2014, 11:08 AM.Comment

I have to say that the lighting in this game is awesome. I use to think MLB the show did a good job but FIFA definitely has taken it up a notch :-)Comment
