The problem is that EA provides some sliders that globally affect each team in the game. "What did you expect?", you may ask. "The same applies to 2k sliders". Here comes the biggest problem: Messing with the slider overrides the whole team build up approach. Nobody from EA ever cared to explain in depth how each slider works.
I have seen all all the parameters of the cl.ini. We're talking about dozens of "microsliders" and hidden cpu AI parameters which are all harcoded in the console version. So, even if you change a slider in the menu that EA provides ingame you have behind it a whole spreadsheet of individual sliders that you can't change and are more important than the one you've changed ingame.
That said, pc users are lucky that have access to all those microsliders and can leave intact on default most of the ingame sliders.

      Fear,

Based on the contents of the .ini file, is there any way to discern which level is designed to best represent the ratings of the players and team tendencies/tactics?

So we on PC dont depend on slider changes as much as they who play fifa on console?

In your opinion 15 plays pretty good without slider changes and the use of custom tactics?

From what I understand doesnt custom tactics affect gameplay as it did with 14?

In this FIFA more than ever changing tactics is CRUCIAL. Changing between attacking, normal, defensive makes a world of difference in this game compared to previous versions.

On legendary I found myself rarely needing to switch to defensive or ultra defensive on previous versions. I played that way and struggled defensively and last few games change depending on what is going on in the game. Makes a world of difference.

do you change formations throughout the game as well or mainly just the attcking, ultra attacking, all out, that type of tactics?

I'll drop into a more defensive shape when I feel the need (mostly final 30 minutes) and even pull a winger and bring in a DM or CM.

Last night I was up 2-0 against Rayo Vallecano and they brought tremendous pressure in 2nd half. So I went into ultra defensive and into a 4-5-1 and took Isco off and brought Illarramendi to complement Khedira. Completely halted their attack and changed the game for me where I felt they were gonna score any minute. As the attack changed, I went from ultra to defensive and then hit them on the counter for a goal to make it 3-0.

I've also used park the bus a few times in the final minutes which I find just as important in 1 goal games where the AI is sending everything at you.

So true! Mentality is a huge factor here! Just love the mental game we have to think about... Do I play a pressing game and attacking to score and avoid the CPU attacks, but risking a dangerous counter? Or do I sit back to a secure gameplay but risk a goal if I´m not good enough defending CPU pressure all over me? Just great stuff!

I don't know if you've tried this, but I've also moved positions around. I'll substitute in another CDM or defender for a forward and then move the positions around for more defensive cover. Unlike previous versions, I feel this year's game has pacing where one team will dominate the ball (instead of ping pong).

I'd never tried this before, but I can't believe how differently the CPU plays with Legacy Defending on. It plays a much slower, more conservative game. Much less juking, spinning, and sprinting. I saw a tonne of back passes too.

Unfortunately, it is just too easy to defend on LD.

I just don't think I'm good enough on defense to play with the pass error slider that low, haha.

So finally jumped into online play for the first time ever with FIFA. I only played 13 and 14 on PC and against CPU usually professional difficulty at the highest. My friend who introduced me to soccer is an Arsenal fan so I kinda am too and that's the team I feel most comfortable using. I recognize the players, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to use them. So that's who I decide to run with online instead of trying to just find the best players/team. Not that Arsenal is some slouch on the ratings. But having a slowww CB like Metersecker takes some getting use to compared to some elite CBs on other teams most use. I was very afraid that I'd be too under powered to compete with the stacked teams. Thankfully the game is very competitive online and play style matters not ratings.

Started at 0-2 with a friend over and him playing the 2nd game. After he left I was able to really focus and used all the new instructions to mold my team to how I want them to play. A huge difference. I am able to defender much better and can use all the quick tactics with comfort depending on the situation. Changing your attacking/defensive effort makes a big big difference on how many players come up to help you attack in regular situations. My biggest problem was the counter attack on turnovers which I can live with. I was able to contain and attack just the same way as I would against the CPU and with the extra human error it works even better at times.

I win 5 in a row, only 1 or 2 had winning records but to face Real Madrid over and over again and still come out on top felt SO good haha. They are definitely tough to handle with all that talent and speed around but I was able to play ball control and use stick skills more than player ratings which is something I can't always say for Madden's less organic gameplay. I feel like everything is earned outside of a few AI errors but its a videogame so I'll be okay.

Love this game and I don't see myself playing Madden anymore outside of those times I just get the itch.

I´m sure you haven´t seen enough matches in legacy. I play in legacy all the time and CPU still plays ping pong in my box. I´m pretty sure the game explores the way we play, he will do what we let him to. If you´re too good with legacy, CPU knows it while playing and its forced to play another way. I´m not that good covering spaces and passing lanes so CPU constantly uses it against me.

Try playing as Swansea against Chelsea. You won't have that problem :-)

Re: FIFA 15 Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS4, XB1)

I already posted this on EVoweb forums, but here is also apropriate, as I just started to get the grips on this game, and I´m loving it more and more.

Ok so after talking about legacy vs tactical I gave it a go again today. Just played two games, one with lower teams and another with top Portugal teams, SL Benfica vs FC Porto.

While defending I just pressed X all the time and used the stick to position my defender between ball carrier and possible passing lanes, then when I had someone else close enough, I also used LT (maybe diferent for you guys, depending on controller settings) to try and tackle.

Now that result was absolutely amazing guys! No joking or placebo. Let me tell you that against FC Porto, I never ever had a situation of tiki taka in my box through the entire match! When I played balanced, I literaly had FC Porto in his own half, they couldn´t even get near my box most of the time. They also made mistakes I´ve never seen before in the game, like falling when trying to pull a trick or leaving the ball run out of the pitch etc. I´m not great at attack so I couldn´t get enough chances to score but I had the match totally dominated. Second half I tried to push a litle more and used a attack mentality. After 75 mins FC porto caught me on counter, with a beatifull high through ball to Quaresma, who was forgotten completely alone. I couldn´t catch him, 0-1.

Match ended with a loss, with stas like:

passing: SLB 76% FCP (cpu) 77%
                                possession: SLB 51% FCP 49%

Playing with lower teams the result was pretty much the same, but just enjoyed this one more because until now, FC Porto or any other better team would always, always end up the match with almost 90% pass acuracy, not to mention the times they play tiki taka in my box.

This with sliders all on default.
