Overall, I am very impressed by Fifa 15.
I play on World Class difficulty and it's refreshing to find I now how to work hard to keep a clean sheet. You really have to defend properly, which is to say not constantly pressing in your own third. If find that the things that matter in real life matter in Fifa now, more than ever.
To quantify that I would say two important things have changed. Firstly, tactics and personnel are as important defensively as in attack, which was not the case in prior iterations. So in the last game you have players using AMF players with next to no defense in CMF and even DMF. They also wanted the "attacking" full backs with pace. I've found on this one you can approach things differently and have different results. For example, Chelsea vs Arsenal. Chelsea, playing with full backs set to defend, a DMF like, Matic with Ramires also putting good defensive work in feels much more secure. I setup Arsenal realistically with Their fullbacks set to always overlap and Arteta as the deepest mid-filder. They feel more vunerable to counter-attacks and just generally more exposed. That's accurate. In the past I could have put Cazorla next to Arteta and simply been better by virtue of him being good going forward.
Also, I find it's harder to win the ball back. You cant just press. You need to keep in line. Especially with Centre-backs. Step up and the player will move into the space behind you. It's realistic. This also means you have to take more care with the ball when you have it. If you're, say, Arsenal and have 45% possession it's because you're trying too many low percentage passes.
I also find pace works better. You can't just hit it over the top as much. But pace on the wings, in transition can be deadly if not defended properly. That, is realistic. I like a lot of what EA have done with this one.
I do have some complaints though.
1. Free Kicks are way too easy to score.
2. Goalkeepers need a little work. Any powerful shot that flies into the top corner they just stand and watch. It's very rare for the keeper not to go for the ball. Only exceptionally powerful shots. Also, they have to many shots "go through them". Many goals do come with shots very close to the keeper. But many just don;t look right. It needs tweaking.
3. The net does not lift off the ground on every goal!! haha. No big deal but feels like a gimmick.
4. I don't want to be an international manger. People do not manage both club and country these days (with rare exceptions). STOP IT!. Again, no big deal but I've played half a season and why do Peru want me anyway?
5. Clearances cause too many dangerous counter-attacks.
Overall though, for an early iteration on this gen I'm very impressed. None of my criticisms make me want to turn off the game. And many of the changes improve things significantly.
