As this issue affects both, I am posting this in NEW GEN and OLD GEN forums.
If you are suffering from CFM roster freeze or Supersim Play Now freeze, please read the findings below. I hope you find them interesting and useful. The testing was conducted on a PS3 with M25. I cannot confirm nor deny that the solution may work for other consoles and versions of the game.
After I made this post, where I shared a solution for a CFM freezing issue, I noticed that several classic rosters which were crashing in CFM mode, were suddenly reposted as now CFM ready.
As my solution worked, my assumption that something had tainted the free agent pool was correct. However, the true cause and extent of the undocumented feature (BUG) goes much further.
This led me to some additional investigation, noting that there are MANY forum threads on THIS site and at EA, where rosters are crashing in CFM and SUPERSIM on both PS3, PS4, Xbox360 & Xbox1.
Which led me to some additional undocumented feature testing (A BUG HUNT).
Field PPTI = Player Acquired From
PPTI found in Excel CSV roster file Column CG
(Parameters used for PPTI or ACQUIRED FROM)
1 thru 32 = Trade from 1 of the 32 existing teams
1008 = NFL Great - HOF Hall of Fame Unlocked
1009 = Free Agent
1015 = Draft
1021 = HOF Hall of Fame - Locked
1023 = New Player/Created
Condition: If the SIM module (which is used in both Supersim and CFM (connected franchise mode)) sees a 1023 value in the PPTI column, it will lock up, crash the game & FREEZE the console.
At this point I stopped and did not test the hypothesis on 1008, 1015 or 1021 codes.
This is why:
1. CUSTOM ROSTERS that have a single player or players with 1023 codes in the FREE AGENT pool will NOT work in offline CFM, as they crash when simming ahead. i.e. Your FA pool is in need of chlorination.
2. Any ROSTER meeting the criteria of item 1, when the team that the 1023 player is on, is run through SUPERSIM in PLAY NOW will crash the game and PS3 console.
This is a different issue with a similar solution in regard to the 1023 coded players. Please read this post by Xanathol regarding PPTI 1023 coded players "disappearing" in franchise and how to fix it. Thank you Xanathol.
Solution: Export all players to CSV, open in Excel, go to column CG = PPTI, sort ascending by PPTI, to be SURE replace all 1008, 1015, 1021 and 1023 codes with 1009 = Free Agent.
Import CSV file, save roster, encrypt, lock and load. You are free to roam about and enjoy freeze free simming and CFM mode.
