Finally seemed to get it right! My problem wasn't really the amount of lighting but the balance of it.

This is for my X1 users hopefully this helps so I did a little experiment with the Kinect so I did the same things everyone did... lights everywhere, different locations, angles I did everything still didn't get anything above 3700 except once. So around 4am I decided to try something I turned off all the lights in the room and did a scan I couldn't even see my face on the tv screen that's how dark it was but it still worked the scan came out really good except for the dark marks on the left and right side of my face because I only had the tv as a light source. So the next day I scanned again.
this was my setup just naturally light from my balcony door and window in the living room and that's it.

and this was my scan it was only about 2100 to 2300 reference points don't remember exactly but it came out very accurate I think


And after tweaking it a bit I think it came out great. I think the kinect works completely different from the ps4 camera and I don't think 2k realized it so that as much light as possible thing actually messes the scan up. When I was getting as much as I could it was drowning out the color in my face and all scans came out with yellow faces remember the kinect can see you in the dark so all that extra light I don't think is needed. As far as the reference points I wouldn't worry about that as much because it seems like the ps4 needs more than the x1 to get a decent scan. I hope this helps out my x1 guys

I also noticed that the Xbox don't need that many reference points for it to come out fairly accurate. I also only needed about 2000 - 2500 and my face came out perfect and I did not need as much light and I scanned my whole head instead of just my face. The most points I've did get was around 3000.

2K needs to add a tutorial for the X1 so the people that's having problems can finally get it done. Cause its clearly different on the X1.

My scan with about 2000 - 2500 points, my mouth is a little off but it's acceptable.

So with natural lightning, (standing in front of my Window) I got the best results ending with 12,000 points...on a cloudy day.

What somewhat ticks me off is 2K has to be aware of the problem that a lot of people are having so why not give a tip as to what is needed to help?? Is that asking to much?

Do I need to buy VC to make this work properly?

I put my kinect on my windowsill around 3 in the afternoon with my phones flashlight shining on my face.

After 6 days of trying this I finally got a pretty good scan. About 3200 reference points which is average but I can see my face. Now only if 2k put better haircuts in here (with actual linings) we'd be in business. I'm satisfied as of now cuz this has been an exhausting experience lol.

I struggled for so long not even coming close. If I could give a tip as to what helped me was to have the camera on a stable surface but looking up slightly while I looked down into the camera. I don't know why but this certainly helped as I got this scan on my first try using this method. So if anyone is having trouble give this method a shot. Camera aimed up while you look down into the camera slowly turning your head.

I did mine but I look light skin more than white and that's with skin tone 6. Is this normal?

I don't know if it is because my lips are naturally slightly pursed (sorta like a natural frown) or what but so far no matter how many ref. points I get I end up with two dark lines coming from the corner of my mouth.

Does the game just not like the curve of my mouth lol

Dude this exact same thing is happening to me. I think my lower lip is too big. It always screws my mouth up no matter what.
