Maybe it's too early too judge, maybe the character matures throughout the course of the game and I just need to stick with it. But for now I almost want to skip through the cutscenes and flesh out my own story, which was definitely not the case last year.

Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
First let me say that I actually love the story-based slant on NBA 2K's Career Mode. Last year it was my favorite mode in the game, I developed an attachment to the character I created, which propelled me to keep playing. But this year I find myself at odds with a lot of my player's reactions and responses, he acts like he's got the whole world coming to him. Look, I'm happy about a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, I just want my player to react accordingly.

But for now I almost want to skip through the cutscenes and flesh out my own story, which was definitely not the case last year.www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffTags: None -

Re: Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
I couldn't agree more. I mean, maybe it was because I was in the Army for 7 years, but I've always been taught to respect people in general, ESPECIALLY if it's a coach or owner of your team. These guys decide your fate, and your future in the league and/or organization. But it KILLS me when my player walks into the owner/coaches office and says 'Hey Dude/Bro/Guy you wanted to talk to me?"
I personally would NEVER call the owner of my organization "Bro, Dude, or Guy"
That's just one of my pet peeves.Comment

Re: Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
I haven't gotten that far into the Mycareer yet, (just got signed to the year deal) but I don't mind the voice or the script. I just sort of look at everything like a caricature of life. The GM is always a complete douche, you're agent is an ***, and the coach is always looking out for the team. Why not give your player some attitude? I also think there's some decent options that don't make you seem as disrespectful.Comment

Either way, I love the game, and MyCareer is hands down the greatest mode in a sports game ever IMO.Comment

Re: Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
I honestly feel that this game is amazing, but it has some drawbacks for me as a player. This is definitely one of them. I was playing the other day with my girlfriend in earshot and she couldn't help but laugh at how much it was NOT like me. The point of face scanning and customization is to feel immersed in the MyPlayer and unfortunately the voice and dialog alienate me from it.
On the other hand, I think the level of customization I want might be unrealistic to develop at this point, so it's not like I'm sour on the game overall because of it.Comment

If you're looking to play a "realistic" NBA career in this mode, that's not what you're going to find here. It's complete and utter fantasy, and if you don't go in expecting that, you're going to be very disappointed.Comment

I haven't really experienced this. I used the alternate voice and that guy seems to come off as a nice, easy going guy so far. I even unlocked that Friendly player badge.
To be fair, I've only just now begun to start so I'm not that far in."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
I just wish one of the voices is white. No disrespect to anyone black, but my character looks European as I am. So when he starts talking like he's from the ghetto, it doesn't fit. James Harden sounds more well spoken than I. Beibg born and raised in Brooklyn, I'm no stranger to sounding urban. But I've always tried to mix it where I sound clear and concise but not a total tool. Kevin Love, he'll, even Farrell(which you meet in game and I've heard in real life) sound more put together.
There should be a voice option for sounding urban and one for sounding like someone not trying to earn street cred with the most ebonics used in one sentence.Check out my gaming channel YouTube.com/OffTheBrinkTV for Tips, Tricks, Tutorials, Walkthroughs and Let's Play videos!Comment

Not to derail the thread, but I agree. I grew up in inner city Chicago, and I'm white. I catch myself using some hood slang sometimes (Triffiling, bustdown, etc) but I'm educated. I have a large vocabulary, and I'd rather speak like I'm educated so people don't assume I'm just a thug from the hood.Comment

It did seem that way in the first year, but in the second year, it's not like that unless you choose the cocky responses.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

But I do think it's a odd that they don't have a white voice actor. Just for sake of variance.Comment

Re: Why is [MyCAREER player] such a douche?
It feels like they model the player actor after AI. Which is fine if you like AI's style and approach to the game.
I would like a Tim Duncan or David Robinson modeled player actor. My personal preference is to approach the game in this manner and to model my behavior like theirs.
I got the "friendly" badge and the "legendary work ethic" badge, yet every time on the court the coach has to say: "wake up, your going in" to get me to check in for subs.
It makes me want to gut-punch my guy with the way he acts and reacts at times.Comment
