Injured players returning mid-game (bug or mechanic?)

Has anyone else been having this happen?

I'll try to explain as easily as possible.
    Basically it goes like this:
    - Player gets injured.
    - Several plays later a window pops up explaining the severity of the injury with a "Keep" or "Substitute" option.
    - I select "substitute" - which to my understanding means the player won't be returning.
    - Later in the game I see the player playing again!!

What the hell is going on? Is the player returning because his injury is no longer a concern, or is the game auto-subbing him back in for some reason?

In one preseason game Antonio Gates went out with a "medium" risk injury rating and I selected substitute (it's preseason so who cares, I don't want him getting injured long term). Later in the game he's in playing as TE again. I didn't catch it right away, he got hit and this time went out for the rest of the game. It really pissed me off because I thought Madden has put him back in against my wishes - but then I thought about it and my question is this:
    - Are the "low, medium, high" risk injury ratings only applicable for short term injuries (i.e. several plays or quarters)? Or are they applicable for the rest of the game?

In other words, did Antonio Gates come back later that game because his first injury had subsided entirely and the fact he got re-injured was peer coincidence? Or did he get re-injured because he had already gone out with a "medium" risk injury?

There really needs to be better documentation from EA about the mechanics of injuries, especially mid-game injuries and substitutions...

what did it say his injury was? in the injury report? he may only had been injuried for a quarter then returned.

and if that's the case of course he has a chance to get injuried again easy.

above post is correct. if someone is only going to be out for a quarter or 2. it gives you the chance to sub them right back in and play through it.

However, if you do substitute, they will be out however long it was, in your case it probably was that quarter or 2. in madden terms, Gates getting hurt twice in 1 game in this instance is just pure bad luck, and they aren't related to one another.

Sounds like it was a minor injury. Some injuries in the game the player will only be out a quarter or two. You can still play him but he won't play as good and his stamina will be so low you risk another injury. Once his injury is over (usually 2 quarters) he will return to his normal spot.

So in answer to my question, the verdict is that:
          - Gates got injured.
          - I subbed him.
          - He later returned 100% OK, with no risk of re-injury.
          - He was hit with another injury?

I did notice that the two injuries were to different parts of the body so it would suggest the above - but I doubt Madden is very smart about "tracking injuries" so it was hard to tell.

          Thanks for the quick replies.

He stated that this injury occurred during a "preseason game." I believe that "substituting" another player for an injured player just reconfigures the "depth chart". So, if he chose to sub him out during a preseason game, he probably was playing later due to the computer reorganizing the depth chart and playing the subs in the second half of the preseason game.

It is just a guess of course.
