Never has a game captured the individual characteristics of a player to the same extent as NBA 2K15. So much of this games brilliance has been overshadowed by its Online Server issues. Putting these to one side I can honestly say there isn't a game close to this in terms of Gameplay or Depth. I love FIFA & MLB The Show but nothing touches this game right now.
i cosign that fifa offline gameplay is not even close it s actually so boring...fifa online is fun but PES especially this year is far superior from a gameplay standpoint and team representations.
yes nba2 k has the best gameplay of our genre period, for me not even close.
i m from europe so never play the show i dont even know basic rules off baseball but i see that the gamplay of the game is praised a lot aound OP. so i dont inclued the show in my comment.

Re: NBA 2K15 Fact or Fiction: Is NBA 2K15's Gameplay the Best in Sports Gaming?

My friend who came over last few nights to play 2k with me just emailed me this...

So I got to thinking last night when I got home….at whatpoint does a game become TOO realistic? The 2K15 gameplay is sobalanced and flawless it almost starts to feel like you’re not playing a videogame anymore but watching a game on TV. The stats, the plays, thecapabilities of the individual players…just so spot on across the board. The contrast would be something like NBA Jam where the fun is in howUNREALISTIC it is…which begs the question: which is actually moreFUN? Maybe NBA Live 15 will combine enough of the arcade-y feelwith the new age graphics/console and just enough glitchy bugs like Shaq makinga 3 pointer or something to be more FUN than 2K15 even though 2K15 is clearlythe best simulation I’ve ever played. This game is amazing, and anyone on your game board says otherwise, they are not playing the same game!

Generally speaking, 2K15 is NOT the best gameplay (7.8 rating), but it does look beautiful trying to be the best.
People keep only referencing a part of the game. If I was a Online Association player, then my preferred mode is unplayable. IF I am a MYPLAYER only player, my player can't even get into the park at times. The online gameplay has been ignored, and offline doesn't come close to the control of The Show or FIFA online/offline. Even Madden is better online.

Offline it plays a good to great game, but still has input lag, sliding issues and invisible force fields to assist in certain sideline animations that should allow more out of bounds calls not more run N gun cheese. Stat overlays are broken, causing long pauses during inbounds plays that do not add to immersion, too much reliance on animations built on athleticism rating (ex. Z. Lavine dunking triggered from beyond foul line?) creating some OP players that turn gameplay into NBA jam online, and those are just a few of the 37 pages of bugs (and counting) on these forums.

I really like this 2k15 gameplay at times but still feel short changed. Those who are raving about it are raving as their gameplay mode of choice seems very playable, mine is not (online association, leagues, or anything like it) and it is incomplete and has been unplayable most of the time since release, even off peak hours.

I don't doubt this game will get better over time with patches, but for now it is NOT the best gameplay IMO, because of many issues online and offline.

Your issues with game play are noted, but functionality of mode's have nothing to do with game play

There is no question NBA2k15 has the best gameplay in any sports game. The AIs rotation and awareness are impressive...very much true to real life NBA. But i can't say the same thing for online gaming. This is something 2K should be focusing on next year. It should be their TOP PRIORITY and try to give back to the online community who deserve more than this. 2 dedicate engineers are not good enough...they need the entire team to focus solely on online on 2k16. Bring back lobby, bring back full feature of Online League. Do whatever it take to make it the best online experience possible just as you have done for the offline people. Online people have SUFFERED ENOUGH!!

If 2K16 was the EXACT same game as 2K15 but had rock solid servers and ZERO lag, I would gladly buy it. It's the series' Achilles heel that really holds it back from being the best sports game PERIOD.

My gameplay issues so far (aside from broken features):

Sluggish movement and responsiveness - This is most harsh on defense. Auto contest is in the game... seemingly only when I don't want it to. The game also won't let me contest certain shots... It's like I'm glued to the ground.

Weird animation selection (tapping the x button occasionally makes your player go into a lunging steal animation with an absurd recover time). Jumping animations happen a lot too.

Poor balancing - The sliders, as shipped, are not good. Yes, I'm talking about superstar sim. Way too many CPU contested shots are going in. Not enough fouls. Game is too slow.

The post game is still not fun. I miss a LOT of uncontested 2' post hooks (with a good post player). Post player skill never feels as powerful as it should even with high ratings and gold badges.

The picks and resulting pick and roll game are neither fun nor effective. This (coupled with the poor passing) has resulted in one of the worst pick and roll mini games I've played in a basketball game. Offensive fouls happen far too frequently.

Passing is sub par. A lot of passes are too floaty. Bounce passes are mostly ineffective (in a situation where you would throw a bounce pass instead of a chest pass or a lob).

Opponent AI is poor. They tend to wait around until the final second on the shot clock then throw up a contested shot which goes in too frequently.

Shooting mechanic isn't fun. The shot meter is distracting and frustrating. Still feels like a dice roll with an overlay. The punishment/reward balance for timing a shot is not tuned properly (or at least to my preference).

Rebounding is WAY out of balance. In my first year as a rookie in MyPlayer I have had four 30pt/30reb games with a level 2/3 rebounding skill. I'm also averaging around 8 offensive rebounds per game. This is while playing approximately 30 min per game.

Overall, when I'm playing 2k I always feel like I have very little control over what's happening. I push a button and hope I get the right animation. When I do something good it never feels like it's because I made the right decision or a smart play. It tends to feel like I lucked out on a dice roll. The highs aren't nearly high enough. The lows are incredibly, frustratingly low and frequent.

RipCityAndy nailed it, but his opinion will go quietly into the night as the euphoric lemmings among us will smother the opinion as L2P. If we are all being honest, then the negative opinions based on the facts are valid, and not worthy of the L2P's that are sure to follow any gameplay disputes about 2K basketball.

We WANT the future patches and workarounds to address specific issues and not be smothered out by those happy with what they have because it suits their own "good gameplay" requirement, or its working for them. Thats just like saying, "well it works on my dev box, must be operator error." All opinions should be heard and discussed, or workarounds explained so the experience is as immense as it was intended to be for ALL of us.

This game does not deserve much praise imo. Before we all hold hands and crown 2k. How about they fix the several issues still remaining. Paid 60 bucks and most of the game is unplayable . Sooooooo it plays great in play now vs cpu on pro. Um yay? But but but "you have to run plays and play sim now". So what true sim heads been playing that way for years. We all need to step back , take a breath and let 2k finish this game.

What a novel concept. Set the "CPU Pass error" slider in FIFA15 to 0 or 100 and tell me how it's any different? I'm far from the best bball player, but on Pro Sim with slider tweaks I am getting a hell of a game from the CPU.
If only this was true across ALL modes. Sliders not being available in many of the modes, including their "most played" mode (MyCareer) leaves many at the mercy of the woeful standard sim sliders which produce insanely frustrating gameplay. I would pay another $60 for DLC that adds custom sliders and playbooks to MyCareer...
