FIFA Series And UEFA Champions Leage

What is the possibility that FIFA 16 will have the license for UEFA Champions League?

I know it's too early to tell but I feel if FIFA had the UCL license, the game would be more or less "complete" all across the board.

What I mean is, with FIFA 16 for example, they could revamp career mode and include UCL.

They've done a fantastic job this year IMO, but it's annoying that the UCL is left out and all we have is the Champions Cup. A game like FIFA should include all licensed competitions.

To hear the theme music, to see the titles and the presentation of the UCL, in a FIFA game next gen would be out of this world. I really think it would improve career mode.

Does anyone have any links to any interviews or speculation that FIFA might be getting the UCL license any time soon?

PES' community manager seemed to hint awhile back that Konami has the CL license locked up for awhile. However long that may be is anyone's guess. It would be nice to see it in FIFA, but personally I wouldn't hold my breath.

I don't get how the CL would benefit from only having one company with the license.

Isn't FIFA the WORLDS top selling video game--or at least sports game?

Seems they would want to get their product to as many consumers as possible...?

The CL benefits from it because they are getting paid a crap ton of money from Konami (probably) to be the only company allowed to have their presentation and named used.

Lol--I understand that. But why not get $ from 2 entities over 1? Esp. considering I'm sure FIFA (FAR) outsells PES (just a guess, no data to back this up).

No data needed. I personally have never met a single person that plays PES. I think I tried a demo for about 5 minutes a few years ago.

To be fair to PES though, they apparently still outsell fifa in South America.

But I hear what you're saying. I have never met anyone that has played PES let alone has even heard of it, outside of forums I visit on the Interwebs. Take that with a grain of salt, however, as I'm from Canada.

Don't blame UEFA it's all EA on this one I'll bet. Konami probably had a clause in the contract with UEFA saying they could not sell the rights to EA or any other developer for the term of the contract. EA probably didn't offer enough money to make it worth UEFA rejecting this clause in the PES contract.

Obviously I have no insider knowledge, just as a business man I feel this is exactly how it would have went down. UEFA felt they could get more signing with Konami solely than signing a non exclusive contract and selling the rights to both parties. EA cheaped out, until I actually hear differently that's what I'm going with.

I figure its because EA has most of the licenses when it comes to the teams and leagues so Kanomi needs something to hold ea by the balls. I just wish we could all just get a long and make an authentic game of soccer so everyone can enjoy

Well then let me ask this. Do you think licence agreements ruin video games?

I was an avid fan of Madden for a few years 2009 - Madden "25". They have so many licences, like my favourite coach, Bill Belichick isn't part of the game because he's not part of some licence or another. Whereas the rest of the coaches are.

But the big one for NFL video games is the exclusive rights. 2K was such a success. This is where the US gamers are like "enough with the NFL 2K talk! It's like every thread / post you see it". But the exclusive rights took out the competition and now we only have Madden to choose from, more or less.

If FIFA had the UCL licence, then would PES / Konami be needed? I think competition brings out the best Mac vs PC, Coke vs Pepsi etc. But FIFA needs competition otherwise it'll end up like EA's other title, Madden. Same stuff different year and I've found it's a very frustrating, cheating game to play!

The Belichick thing has NOTHING to do with licenses. It has to do with the fact Belichick is not a member of the Coaches Association, so they cannot legally use his name and likeness. And PES would not be needed. And since I am stuck on last gen, I think 14 and 15 are night and day. It's all due to the fouls that I am seeing in games. In 14 there were literally no fouls called in my favor but in 15 the AI is averaging around 8 fouls per game.

They also outsell FIFA in Asia.

I played PES in 2010, 2011, and maybe 2012 (bought both games those years). Been with FIFA only the last few.

Also, Canadian, and I don't know anyone else up here who's played it either, or probably even heard of it.

Re: FIFA Series And UEFA Champions Leage

Fifa definitely has North America on lock. Seems like Europe as well.

Regarding licensing ruining games, I think that's true in the case of these football games. It seems a bit of a petty way to stifle the competition. I definitely believe Fifa would not have gotten as big as it is if it didn't have the real team/player names and kits in the BPL. I'm sure PES would be in a better position to compete, regardless of their troubles on the PS3, had they been able to license the BPL as well. For those that have been around long enough, you'll remember how terrible Fifa used to be and how amazing ISS was... yet everyone would try Fifa at some point just for the "real" players. Once Fifa even slightly improved its game, it was game over for PES.

Now because of how the licensing is being carried out, Fifa is comfortable counting FUT cash rather than innovating, and PES is struggling to remain relevant in the main markets. I think no matter how much better PES' gameplay versus Fifa may once again get, it still won't be able to overcome the licensing advantage.

As for PES having the champions league, it seems like a consolation prize. The BPL is ultimately where it's at.

Exactly, being able to play with real teams and players go along way with most people. I mean who wants to play a game with man u against London football club aka Chelsea lol ive always liked the pace of PES than fifa but the lack of leagues and teams are killing the PES franchise.

Rather than tournaments, they should head in the same direction with expanding leagues. Would love to see every stadium of the bundesliga or even Liga 3 in Germany, maybe even the Greek league? If any tournaments would be added btw it should be something to make the MLS more desirable to play. I moved the Redbulls to the FL Championship league because playing in the USA has nothing to offer
