How do you guys use read option this year?
It seems it went from ridiculous last year to next to nothing now when the qb keeps it, having le'veon bell on inside power handoffs are fine, but if the qb keeps it I get blown up in the backfield every play even with 88 spd qbTags: None -

I guess I never run this play because I don't know how to not keep the ball as the QB...How do you hand it off?Comment

hold down X (PS4)/A (XBOX) before the hand off would occur.Comment

I feel like whenever I run the read option, the DE never chases the RB, so my QB can't kill them with his legs. It's frustrating LOL.Comment

I have the opposite problem, the DE always crashes down the line so I have room to run for my QB.Comment

The DE crashes on the running back or focuses on the QB based on your playcalling. If you aren't calling run plays, just spamming the read option, then no, the DE won't bite. But if you are mixing up your playcalling, and calling more run plays, and successfully, then the DE will bite on the RB, allowing you to go out the back side with the QB.
I run the read option rather successfully in my 32 man online franchise. But like any other play, you have to know when to call it, and read the defense.Comment

Re: How do you guys use read option this year?
Ive ditched it all together unless its with a lead fullback or the triple option, I use le'veon bell with hb dives all game so the fact they never chase the qb has nothing to do with playcalling
Having bell as the #1 back and CJ2K as the 2 is very good for triple as CJ as the pitch man is too fast for defenses to catch on the outside
As for the normal read, it just seems guys get off their blocks and nail the qb in the backfield without the fb leadComment

That's exactly why the defensive end doesn't chase the QB, you've been running up the middle with your running back all game...Ive ditched it all together unless its with a lead fullback or the triple option, I use le'veon bell with hb dives all game so the fact they never chase the qb has nothing to do with playcalling

It also depends on who is your QB. If you have Cam Newton the defense is going to be more focused on him but if you have Nick Foles you are gonna be able to run like 5 yards every time.Comment

Re: How do you guys use read option this year?
I disagree with this. I kept trying it a bit on and off as I want it to work but never had much luck getting the read man to crash the RB. The kicker though was one year when my starting QB got knocked out for the season in week 3 and I had to play a (relatively crappy) mobile rookie whom I was hoping would never hit the field. I had a solid run game going w/o it and figured this was the perfect time to mix in some more reed option. Nope. Same problem - almost always keying the QB and forcing the handoff. At first, yes, I was calling it too much. Funny thing though, as I was giving up on it I'd call it only a handful of times in a game and it was still no different. I was at ~75% run plays with only ~5 read options called and STILL not seeing the DE crash the RB.The DE crashes on the running back or focuses on the QB based on your playcalling. Now this is a silly question as I always had more of a NCAA backround. In NCAA there was a defensive setting which you could select Key RB, Key QB, or balanced. This feels exactly like when you set it to key QB for options.
Another question - is this vs the cpu? I would not at all be surprised to see a difference in how this reacts vs a human opposed to the cpu.Timeetyo

I believe he meant that the DE always stays home to contain the QB instead of playing the RB, because he agreed with me when I stated that's the problem I'm having. No matter how many times I run the ball up the middle, the DE always plays contain on the QB. I understand my drafted QB is basically a Colin Kaepernick clone(just 2" shorter) but geez LOL.....Comment
