how do i release a player

I need to sign a goalie but it says my roster is full. So was wondering how I release a player?

You used to be able to send them down to the minors if needed. I'm not entirely sure how it works in 15, but in 14 you could send a player to the minors, and they would go though waivers to get there (a team has a chance to claim them, but unless they're pretty good, most don't) and then they are down until needed again.

The frustration with goalies was that the roster editor wouldn't really let you make moves very well. Trading in general could be a pain. I seem to remember a few times where it was more complicated than it needed to be, because trading say, a 90ovr player for a 90ovr goalie was tough to work straight-up because if i took their goalie they would be 'short' a goalie (Instead of the game having them call one up) and so it almost always worked out that i would have to send some AHL goalie prospect along to keep from running into any goalie issues.
Hopefully in NHL16 trading and roster moves get a serious overhaul.

i think u go to manage contracts and then pick your player and there are options like. "buy out" "release" . I saw this in the off-season so not sure you can.

You cannot release players in-season. NHL contracts are guaranteed as per the CBA, and represented as such in the game. There is a buyout period during the offseason where you can buy out contracts, but you incur a cap penalty based on a percentage of the contract.

You can do this in NHL 15. Go to Manage Rosters->Roster Moves and pick the player(s) to send down. The main annoyance is that the game won't tell you if anybody got claimed -- you have to manually check.

Noticed this earlier when I couldn't find one of my players.. would have been nice to know at the time I sent them down so I could sign a FA.
