How do I run the ball?

Okay. I have played about ten games and still cannot run the ball. In only one game did my back eclipse the 100 yard mark, and even at that his YPC was around 3.7. I've tried everything I know to do. I lowered the difficulty to pro. I've tried multiple formations: IForm, single back, pistol, shotgun. I've tried ISO, counters, dives, sweeps, stretches, tosses, even the read option. Someone please help me here and don't just say, "Get better." I'm a ten year veteran of NCAA and have been playing Madden longer, albeit more casually. Point is I know my football.

You have to know where and when to run. Attack the right gaps in the defense. Keep the defense on their toes so they aren't just keying in on the run game.

I have no problem running on other users. Just need to keep aggressive and mix up the playcalling and you can break off a number of nice runs

Offline though is a completely different game. Can't average more than 3 yards per carry against the cpu

Same here. Does adjusting run block sliders help at all?

Re: How do I run the ball?

When my run game is on, it's on. Last night, I broke off 192 yards and a TD in a league game with Darren McFadden of all people. In year 1, I had a game in particular where I had a drive where I called nothing but run plays, and marched all the way down for a score. I wasn't trying to score - it was at the end of the game, I just wanted to kill the clock. But my run game was on point so much that I ended up scoring by default.

When my running game ISN'T on, it's bad. With Frank Gore and that monster 49ers offensive line, I've had games where I couldn't get more than a 2 YPC average.

I do like that the run game isn't an instant "easy" button like it was last year. Last year's run game was broken. Blocking was too good, I could break off 5-7 YPC without even trying. This year, you have to know what you're doing, and know what the defense is doing, and keep your opponent guessing.

I want to bump this post higher. I cannot run on the CPU and it is taking the fun out of the game. I understand challenging, but this is nightmarish, even on Pro difficulty. I have tried everything I know to do. I've done sweeps, tosses, stretches, ISOs, read zone/options, HB Power, etc. I've run out of every formation imaginable: shotgun, pistol, I Form, Singleback, Ace, strong, and I haven't had any success.

Another thing I'm noticing is my offense altogether isn't explosive. I can complete the short/intermediate passes, but anything above ten yards is not likely. I like that it is challenging, but I am a a fifteen year vet and struggling majorly. I can only imagine what it is like for casual gamers.

For running you may have heard this but it's a big one so I gotta say it. When Do You Hit The sprint Button? I suggest not hitting it until you hit the line of scrimmage, you sometimes go too fast especially with a speed back and your blockers don't have time to block properly.

What I've Noticed Maybe It's Just me, But in, M15 some guys I just can't run with, I'm horrible with a couple really good backs. And I dominate with average to bad backs.

I've been hitting the sprint button after I see the hole and attack it. However, there are very few holes or holes close up quickly. There is always a linemen who sheds an o-linemen and gets in the backfield. It's very frustrating.

I struggled for a while too...I'm by no means great now, but I'm definitely better. Like the person above said, take it easy on the sprint button. I for sure wait until I pass the line of scrimmage, and restrict cutting too much before I hit the whole, because the blockers follow which direction you're running.

It's very easy to run - singleback 4 wide - run play off tackle - if overloaded one side switch to other side - if run blitz then quick pass - it is unstoppable

If you search the board, there are excellent threads that explain how to run the ball in Madden 15. I recommend the post below as the OP does an excellent job breaking down the running game in Madden 15.

                        Madden 15 Running Tips

In addition to the above post, I found these controller tips especially useful...

                        * Precision Modifier (L2) - When running the ball, holding L2 when performing jukes, spins, etc. makes your intended move more effective. If you check the M15 instruction manual, there are a variety of precision modifier moves that help your RB elude the defense.

                        * Sprint Button (R2) - On running plays, do not use the sprint button until your RB has crossed the line of scrimmage. Delaying the use of the sprint button allows your linemen to setup blocks and create running lanes for your RB. If you sprint up to the LOS, you will sometimes hit a lane, but most of the time, you will run into the back of your o-line and get a minimal 1-3 yard gain.

                        * Offensive Line Slide Protection (L2) - When approaching the LOS, pressing L2 + Up (AGGRESSIVE), Down (PINCH), Left (SHIFT LEFT) or Right (SHIFT RIGHT) allows you to shift the offensive line prior to running a play. Depending on the defense's alignment/formation, shifting your o-line can help create running lanes to run more effectively.

Hope the above running tips help you out.

Re: How do I run the ball?

In my experience, I can run about 3-8 yards per run play. I use HB Dive a bit for this on first down and then evaluate from there. I have found it hard to run around the edge.
The Precision Modifier tends to lead to fumbles for me. I have quit using it altogether.
The Sprint button: here's what i've noticed, quick burst of speed then slower than normal. Also, if you are holding the sprint button, you are easier to knock down. Fair trade, more speed in exchange for less broken tackles.

When I run through the middle i don't hold sprint and use a stiff arm at the line. This sometimes pushes the blocker and def out of my way. May give me an extra yard or two. Gotta keep pounding it. Wear the de line down. Also, mix it up with some play-action. I have found the more I think like a coach the better.
That's just what I've noticed using OAK and NYJ.

^^Great advice. #2 and #3 are the most important for just about every play. Waiting on the spring button until you find the hole makes such a big difference.

Runs up the middle with a speed back, you'll be amazed. If that doesn't work, inside handoffs out of shotgun. Don't mark this as trolling, this is good advice.
