Anyone else done with My Gm Mode?

At first it was really fun, felt good improving my gm which in turn improved my team. But IM on year 36 in total(over multiple runs, this one being around 9 years already), and my gm is in the high 80s level. I have all the progressive fatigue reducers and most of the progression and potential badges/facilities. Now granted, Ive been loaded since year 2 or 3 so its impossible to "rebuild" this team. It just gets reloaded with the best talent the next year by trading those ive developed as much as I can to teams that need them for high picks and high potential healthy young players. I LITERALLY PRACTICE ON VERY HIGH EVERY SINGLE DAY, NEVER GET TIRED ANYMORE.

I literally lost one game last year, after 74 straight wins, been beating the 72-10 record every year for the last 6 years. The only team in the league that could possibly beat me with 2 stud created players and joel embiid still, the 76ers. They never got within 20 in any other game, we just had a bad game. One other team beat us in the conference semis once, again a fluke as we won every other game by 20+. We literally will score 140 on any given night.

It just gives the player too much of an advantage, cheapens the whole experience. Now the only way to add any fun to this mode would be if I restarted with the pelicans or bucks, but I dont know that I want to if players are gonna develop 15+ overall a year. Might be time to switch to my league...

You do know you can deactivate the badges and advantages you get in MyGM, right?

If you like MyGM but don't want to be too powerful this could be the way to do it.

I agree it is a bit too easy, but you need to set some house rules. Plus what sliders were you using for gameplay?

I like to sim half and play the other half. Part of being a GM is seeing how well your team can play without user skill involved. I lose quite a bit in sims. I am only in year 3 with the T-wolves and I expect to win around 50 games with a top 5 defense. You need sliders and house rules though.

Yep I feel like I'm getting too powerful too but like the other poster said just disable some badges.

I turned it off the second the Lakers owner demanded I play Julius Randle 26 minutes a game and the sixers wanted to ensure the roster by the end of the season was top 16 in the league.

I was about to say..you could actually TRY and play sim lol...I mean you're sitting here talking about how often you are trading players then stop trading players...goodness. The whole point is to get a core and win multiple championships with them to let your fanbase fall in love with your players...and even when you aren't still winning you hod on to them as long as possible because the fans will still pay to see the players they fell in love with!

Re: Anyone else done with My Gm Mode?

Dont get it twisted, Mirotic Giannis and The created center I got in a draft have been on my roster since "day one" or as close to it as I could. I just dont keep the players already at 90 on my bench when I could just trade them and develop the rest of the talent that NEVER GETS DEVELOPED by the other teams. In fact, that would be INFINITELY BETTER if the computer gms and the teams themselves had a certain amount of facilities or badges that represent the teams as they are now. Like the spurs would have the potential faster/higher ones, the suns would have the injury and progressive fatigue ones. Maybe not the final level of them but they would develop just like you based on their teams progress.

But I agree, normally I would play with some sort of "house rules", I used to on Nfl Head Coach 09. Im just saying, it is overpowered. Now, I didnt know I could just turn them off so thats pretty cool, appreciate that info. And no I wasnt playing them, like ever really. I just simmed through the season, watched the all star and rising stars challenge. Like I said, I play head coach so Im a fan of watching the players play and seeing how they fit the system and gel together. They took that out of MyGM for some reason except those 2 games I just mentioned.

I will be switching to MyLeague the next go round, I just wanted to vent. And I dont feel bad about stockloading talent. How the hell do you think the lakers won 5, or the bulls won 6 in 8? How the hell do you think bill russell won 11 championships? They had allstars on their ****ing bench...

Re: Anyone else done with My Gm Mode?

So I took some of your suggestions to heart and have come up with some rules. For reference though, I always play on hall of fame sim sliders. I just wasnt playing a lot of the games because I wanted to "be the gm". Didnt tell thibs how to run his team, left rotation or philosophy alone unless it was scout suggested, just gave him the pieces to win. This time I'll play at least 10 games a season, maybe one against the best 5 teams and then one against the rivals, something like that. Maybe elimination games for playoffs.

These first couple MyGMs though, Ive been pretty ridiculous with my drafting and trading. I dont know that I'll be able to stop gathering picks and talent, I can at least restrict it some. I plan on this next MyGM not having any top 15 picks EVER(I'll trade down and for future picks if I get one with the worst team I can). And I wont draft/sign anyone with a potential higher than c+(other than resigning players). That means the best potential a rookie could have on my team would be b+ to a-. Not only would this balance the league out adding more talent to the pool, It fixes the issue of the league not developing anyone else by forcing me to do it. They can turn a b potential into a mid 80 player within 4 years usually, They cant do **** with a c though, maybe becomes an 80, MAYBE...

Hope this adds more difficulty without having to take away benefits I "earned" simming so many seasons. I put the time in, my gm should be a beast. I just think he needs to be forced to work with some **** talent and make it successful now...

Also try not trading so much at all for draft picks. If you're a bad team you should keep your draft pick or trade out of it for talent. If you're a good team you should never pick in the lottery because in real life most draft picks that you trade for are top 3, top 5, top 10, or lottery protected.

For example the Bulls have the Kings pick this year as long as it's NOT in the top 10. Suns have the Lakers pick as long as it's NOT in the top 3. It's very difficult for a good team to get an unprotected pick from a bad team so account for that when making your trades.

Also if you're trying to acquire someone of high value potential wise like Giannis or Nikola you should stockpile the trade for the cpu team. Yea they will accept Jeremy Lin and Ed Davis for Giannis but you know in your heart of hearts the Bucks would NEVER do a trade like that. So for young guys who have great potential you should set the minimum you're aloud to offer. So for a guy like Giannis the package should be something like this: Future 1st Rounder, Expiring Contract, Good player without star potential (jeremy lin/jordan hill), and another piece to make the contracts work. You should also in that deal take back a bad contract that has multiple years on it like an O.J. Mayo. Then you can waive Mayo and take the cap hit.

Et viola you're a Sim GM now not taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence.

It is what you make it. If you want to power game it and exploit advantages then I guess it might get too easy after awhile. You don't have to after all and you can make it much different with some self set rules of behavior. Game developers can't make it work for everyone the same way they give you a foundation and it's up to you to play it how you see fit. I get that many people like to power game and win at all costs , and that is just fine. When those same people then complain that something was too easy to stop them from doing it I can't seem to find much sympathy. I like the game mode it is the only one I play but I don't cheese the other GM's with coins and things of that nature.

Re: Anyone else done with My Gm Mode?

I hear ya, I started a new one with the bucks. Tried to make better trades for the teams I took players from this time around, paying more attention to the potential of my players compared to theirs. Once you have all the progression badges, you really cant take on anyone higher than a c+. Even then, its still kind of cheap. With my facilities and badges, It adds 15 potential and they progress 20% faster.

So with that all in mind, I tried to only get players the first year with a c+ or less in exchange for someone B or better. Got to the second round with a team that had dante Exum, enes kanter, Mirotic, mcdermott, snell, giannis, zach levine, anthony bennett, jabari parker, Johnnie obryant, murislav raduljica(?) jan vessely, lorenzo brown. think 2 others(know I had 15 after allstar break with jan and lorenzo picked up then). With all my badges, we raised a team with only one or 2 80's I think(not much higher), and a bunch of 70+s into like 6 90+ players and another 5 80+ players. Let Kanter and a couple others walk in fa.

This second year Im gonna drop the potential necessary to accept a trade with someone to c or lower UNLESS. That exception is with the magic, I traded them a 90 rated mcdermott, 87 dante exum and 79 Johnnie Obryant, for a 79 aaron gordon, 79 elfrid payton, and a rookie 80 center. I felt that ok because I gave them 2 stars that went from c potentials in the first year to a+ potentials in 2nd year. Even off my team they're around a B+ potential or better.

But Im trying to play more like I did on head coach. I understand playing sim and its not about always winning. The first one yea, Im a bulls fan and a history buff so I like breaking untouchable records. One of those is 11 championships and 8 in a row by bill russell. Not cheap in my mind to try and emulate history in order to make it repeat. But anyone on my bench that's 85 or better BEFORE Coaching/gm boosts, they get traded at the deadline or right after the season during the draft/before first game of next year.

The only reason this mode is "too easy" is because they dont give the other 29 gms a chance to improve their facilities or badges. Thats a big reason the game becomes unbalanced. They cant develop people 1/2 as fast, if even a 1/4. Im ok with handcuffing myself to players in the 50s and 60s now, but that doesnt mean an 75 overall aaron gordon should take 6-7 years to become a 88+. Progression is terrible and then regression is even worse. Stars like pau gasol who's eating the league up this season will be a 75 overall in year 2 so he's gonna go from 20 & 10 to 10 and 5 in a ****ing year, drop 7 overall...

for what its worth, ive never used any of the pitches to make a gm like my trade more, or used a grass is greener/hometown discount pitch, only pitch I've used is got your back or drill sergeant. Things like that. And I never "rip off the cpu". i just make the stars add up...
