Definitive Coach Mode Sliders NCAA '14 in the making..

**NEW SLIDER SET Aug.1, 2022**

About this set of sliders...**STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS** IF you deviate from anything that is here, you are on your own. I can't tell you what effects it will have. I can only go by what I have tested here and what has been looking good so far on my end.

ALSO...don't play a half of a game and tell me they aren't working (or that they're great!) TEST them in full. Play at the bare minimum, a season. What would be better is to play 10 seasons. I think we will only know the true value of sliders once we have CPU generated rosters after Season 5. I have no illusion we are all using Community Rosters at this point. So, I would say to definitely see how things play once you've moved on to fully generated rosters.

A lot of credit goes to JoshC and his ideas of trying to stay default on the sliders as much as possible. A link below to his thread shares a lot of my same ideas.

https://forums.operationsports.com/f...ncaa-14-a.html

I hate putting out sliders that aren't "perfect", but its just not possible. However, maybe having more eyes on it, someone will come up with something to contribute.

-Aug 1. 2022 added "feature"...

I've resorted to editing 'Scrambling' QBs in an effort to alleviate QB's immediately scrambling to the right and running right into the back of the LT and getting sacked by the RE. This can lead to upwards of 6-10 sacks a game. So, what I do is take (SPD, AGI, ACC, BTK, TRK, ELU, BCV, SFA, SPM, JKM, CAR) and I bump them down one by one each, until the QB becomes balanced. It seems to be working.

Ok, I'll try to keep this short...

First things first. I WISH I could have kept a complete default set, as the game truly does look nice that way. Unfortunately, it just doesn't produce the results we need. So we have three edits in the Game Rules sliders, two edits in the AI sliders, and some fluid tweaking in the Global Substitutions.

The two most constant problems I have had in trying to make a set...

1. Getting the CPU run game up to speed. It has constantly bogged down unless you go crazy with sliders and the animations and realism go out the window.

2. And the most annoying...Pass protection by the Right Tackle. How many times do we see the LDE, slip, slide, and grease right by the Tackle? AND...how many times does your QB decide to run, only to run RIGHT INTO that LDE that is sliding right by the Tackle when there's a completely open run lane between the tackle and guard??! It is frustrating beyond belief. So, the key was to find the subtle slider combo to alleviate this the most we can. Will we still see this problem? Most likely. Will this set help calm the frequency of it happening? That is my hope.

I've been trying to come up with a set where you can start out at a 1 Star school and work your way up by keeping things realistic, not playing against a slider set, but rather against the team you're playing. It's been damn near impossible. I can still win 7+ games with a 1 Star team, due to the fact that when you play other subpar teams, well, player ratings just seem to matter less, its seems. Or, in an effort to help out the CPU running game, it conversely boosts my team too much and I end up running for 300 yards against Stanford (an A- defense) with San Jose State. SMH.

SO...an in effort to make things more fun and realistic, I've resorted to coaching only higher rated/tier teams. But hey, give anything a shot if you want as far as teams you want to use and see how it goes!

"It is very important to be using a roster set that has all the coaches sub frequency set at default 50, and the coaching aggressive/conservative set accordingly. However, if you are using some other set that doesn't have the coaches edited correctly, It is now widely known that Offensive aggression should be no lower than 50 for coaches. a setting of 50 is for your very conservative offenses. For Defensive aggression, extremely good defenses say like Alabama, Saban is set to 20/80. The higher you go (30/70, 40/60, etc...) the weaker the defense, so to speak. This should never go above 50/50."

I still stick to that approach ^

Playbooks - Default.

Controls - Coach (This is the option screen that lists Profile, Offense, Defense, Controls, Done...right before you start your next game)

Auto-Strafe OFF
Auto Passing OFF

My House Rules....

Coach Progression - NORMAL <---(Important)

Coach Skills - Refer to JoshC's thread that I linked above

DO NOT FAST SIM any play. Fast Sim will not adhere to the slider settings.

Optional House Rules below...

Accelerated Clock - can only be used in the 4th quarter in the last 2 minutes in order to keep the total amount of plays realistic.

Optional Recruiting House Rules... are you can only recruit 3 Star players and up with as many players you are scheduled to lose (Seniors) at seasons end. You are free to recruit as many 1-2 Star players as you like. Can only recruit players who have you in their Top 10 if they are 3 stars and up. You are free to recruit any 2 and 1 star players regardless if you are on their top 10 list or not.

Other house rule is regarding playbooks/coaches. Basically, if I'm the Head Coach, I have to use whatever playbook my OC and DC have. I also tailor my aggression/playcall settings to match theirs as close as possible. Conversely, if I'm a coordinator, I change my playbooks/sliders to whatever the Head Coach's are. (To be noted, I've gone to being Head Coach ONLY every season if possible. Being a coordinator leaves too much chance for weirdness)

Set ALL coaches' 'CPU No-Huddle Style' to Conservative. Conversely, I think going no-huddle on here isn't fair to the CPU because the CPU never changes their play, so if I catch them blitzing, I can just no huddle all the way down the field usually with no problem. To each their own though, I just prefer every team huddle (unless of course you're in a true hurry up in the last quarter playing from behind, to which, I still huddle, but just hurry to the line).

It is extremely important that your MM and Dynasty menu settings match.
