Welcome to The Factory | Eastern Michigan University (NCAA Football 14)

I've been wanting to post a dynasty story for a long time now, but didn't have the time. I am starting a new career now, though, and am hoping I will have the time to keep this going. I play sports game for fun, so that will be the main focus here. If I am not having fun with this anymore, I'll try something else. The good news is that once I start a new dynasty, I generally stick with it for multiple seasons. That is the goal with this one: simple updates that cover multiple seasons of my NCAA Football 14 career. This is as much a place for me to highlight some of my favorite moments and stats as much as anything else.

I am Michigan born and bred, and though I did not attend Eastern Michigan University, I have a lot of friends who did. EMU always plays second fiddle to some of the more popular MAC schools like Western Michigan, or even Central Michigan. Eastern Michigan has not had a lot of success where the other schools in the conference may have, so it is time to change that, even if it is just in video game form.

Eastern Michigan University is less than a 15-minute drive from one of the most storied franchises in college football history (University of Michigan), and yet the football teams have always seemingly been on separate planets. I hope to move EMU up the ranks of the Mid-American Conference, and eventually gain them a higher prestige. I will play my character as realistically as possible, meaning if another, larger program offers me a shot at their school, I could potentially take it. That doesn't mean I will, and I fully plan on fulfilling at least my three-year contract with Eastern Michigan.

Here is the basic rundown of my settings:

    Game: NCAA Football 14
    System: Xbox 360
Rosters: Pasta Padre's from July of 2013
Difficulty: All-American on Offense, Varsity on Defense
    Recruiting Difficulty:
    Coaching Progression: Normal
    Quarter Length: 7 minutes
    Game Speed: Normal
    Player Min Speed Threshold: 25

I am using a penalty set that I found on here, but I cannot give credit because I forget where I found them. They are pretty realistic, though.

I do not use any special house rules on gameplay or recruiting as I like to keep things fun for myself, but I try to play realistically each week. That said, I may make some plays that not everyone agrees with, and I am perfectly fine with that.

Because I hate playing defense, I will most likely stick to Offensive Coordinator throughout this dynast (subject to change). That said, I will only focus on the offense when posting stats and depth charts because that is what I would do if I was actually hired in as an OC. Sorry if this bothers anyone.

One final note: I will only post Top 25 Rankings every so often unless my current team is active in them.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this becomes a thread that garners some fun discussions.

Eastern Michigan University is proud to announce the hiring of Talon Raiver as new offensive coordinator.

Raiver was most recently the quarterback coach of at West Virginia University, where he helped the Mountaineers win multiple Big East (now American) titles, including three bowl wins. Raiver is a Michigan man, and a graduate of Wayne State University in the heart of Detroit City, where he started under center for three of his four years at the University. Prior to his tenure at Wayne State, Talon played high school ball at Catholic Central, where he won a State Championship in his senior season. Though Raiver enjoyed his time as a player, his true passion has always been coaching, and his natural leadership abilities have helped make him a great one at that.

Eastern Michigan is proud to have Talon Raiver's unique skill set in Ypsilanti. We are confident that Raiver is the man that will help bring EMU into the national spotlight.

For the uninitiated, the Eastern Michigan University Eagles have a history of failure. They have amassed eight winless seasons, the last as recent as 2009, and have only won one Bowl Game. That win was way back in 1987 where they defeated the 17.5 point favorite San Jose State University in the California Bowl. In 2009, Ron English - the former University of Michigan defensive coordinator - was hired in as head coach (in real life, Ron English went 0-12 in his third season and was fired, but we're not skipping ahead, so he is still the head coach in this universe).

Talon Raiver is the new offensive coordinator, and he is bringing his one-back offensive style to the Eagles. Ron English has the potential to be a big-time head coach, so can these two Michigan men bring Eastern Michigan the MAC trophy it has been longing for?

            2013 NCAA Season Preview

            2013 NCAA Season Preview

Entering the 2013 college football season sees some teams in different conferences. Here is a preview of how the experts believe the new-look conferences will shake out.

Analysts have put Talon Raiver and the EMU Eagles on notice, predicting that even with the new coaching duo of English and Raiver, the team will still finish dead last in the MAC.

Alabama leads the way into 2013, landing at the top spot on the preseason Coaches Poll. It should also be noted that the only MAC school to earn a spot in the Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll is Northern Illinois at #24.

              2013 Schedule Announcement

Ron English has unveiled the 2013 Eastern Michigan University schedule today. There are some high caliber teams, and English was quoted as saying that he "wants to give Talon (Raiver) a real test in his first season as an offensive coordinator".

Some surprises come at the top of schedule as the Eagles will kick-off play against the #21 team in the country: Kansas State. The ranked opponents do not stop there, though, as they are slated to play three other preseason Top 25 teams, all of them on the road. Along with #21 Kansas State, EMU will face an SEC team that ranked at #25, Vanderbilt, the perennial powerhouse Notre Dame Fighting Irish, currently ranked #7, will be their highest ranked opponent of the season. The final opponent is one that the Eagles know fairly well, the only MAC team to be ranked: the #24 Northern Illinois squad.

Another big surprise on the schedule this year is the fact that Talon Raiver's old team, the West Virginia Mountaineers, will head to The Factory in week three. Raiver surely has that game circled on his calender, but will he be able to put together a team that has a fighting chance against a Big XII organization that likes to pound on quarterbacks?

Here is the rest of the 2013 schedule:

Wildcats Capitalize on Young Eagles' Mistakes

                EASTERN ECHO EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

The most disappointing aspect of this week one match-up against the #21 team in the country is that the Eagles had a legitimate shot at making this a game. Some poor decision-making late in the second half, plus a bad touchdown drive in the fourth quarter by the Wildcats cost the Eagles a major upset. The game was pretty much out of reach by the end of the third quarter, but Tyler Benz didn't care. He drove the Eagles down the field for two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making the game appear closer than it really was. This was an expected loss, but one that the Eagles should be able to build on in the coming weeks.

Game Ball: WR Dustin Creel for starting the day #3 on the depth chart, but proving just as reliable as #2 guy (Demarius Reed).

Next Up:A road-trip to a sour 0-1 SEC club in Tennessee: Vanderbilt.
The Eastern Echo Prediction (1-0): Vandy 35, Eagles 14

EMU Defense Leaves Music City Singing the Blues

Talk about a potentially season defining win! Quarterback Tyler Benz and the rest of the Eagles managed to walk into an SEC stadium in the middle of Tennessee, and not only put on a good showing, but held on to win the game. The defense deserves a ton of credit as they were able to stave off some poor playcalling (going for it on questionable fourth down situations, and not kicking field goals when they probably should have). Benz does not have many touchdown passes this year, but he is showing why the coaches were so high on him in the preseason: the man can simply make some big plays. One of the biggest plays of the game, that eventually lead to an EMU game-tying touchdown was when Benz found TE Tyreese Russell in the middle of the field for a huge 67-yard reception on a 2nd and 12, backed all the way up to their own endzone. Was this just a fluke, or did the Eagles learn something in their could-have-won outing against the Wildcats in week one?

Game Ball: QB Tyler Benz for his "never quit" attitude, his playmaking ability, and his 147.0 QB rating.

Next Up: Talon Raiver's former club, the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Eagles' home opener.
The Eastern Echo Prediction (1-1): WVU will be looking to bounce back from their loss to #9 Oklahoma, and the home crowd will probably not be enough to cool the Mountaineers passing game. WVU 42, EMU 24.

Eagles Shock the World in National Spotlight

                    BY BRANDEN CROW
                    EASTERN ECHO SPORTS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

It all started on the opening kick-off. EMU elected to receive in the second half, which meant they were kicking off to start the game (a risky decision against a powerhouse club at home). The move paid off as the WVU return man fumbled the ball, giving EMU excellent field position, and eventually setting up their first touchdown of the day. WVU turnovers were the story of the game, really, allowing Tyler Benz the opportunity to surprise the world on a National stage (EMUs first nationally televised game in three seasons). Not only that, but the special teams crew managed to run back a 74-yard punt return for a score in the second half. The Eagles were clicking on all cylinders today.

A late interception by Benz allowed the Mountaineers to make a game of it when they were down by 17 points. WVU managed a field goal out of the pick, but after a defensive effort and a touchdown drive, they started the fourth quarter only down by 7. Fortunately, EMU halfback Bronson Hill took things into his own hands, breaking the 100 yard rushing mark for the first time this season, and scoring the game-clinching final touchdown. This is a huge win for this club, and this University, especially since the world was watching.

Talon Raiver received a Gatorade bath at the end of the game, and he was all smiles as he made his way back to the locker room. It came out this past week that Raiver was fighting for two seasons to take over as Offensive Coordinator at WVU, but when they fired their OC, instead of promoting Raiver, they brought in a big name from the SEC to take position. This is what lead to Raiver signing the deal at our much smaller school. This was a great win for Raiver as well.

Game Ball: HB Bronson Hill who managed to kill the fourth quarter clock, break 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career, and net 2 touchdowns.

Up Next: The Eagles open up their MAC conference schedule on the road with the team predicted to finish just above EMU at the bottom of the MAC: the 2-1 Ball State Cardinals.
The Eastern Echo Prediction (1-2): The campus is finally talking about this team for the first time in years, and this really feels like the year big things could happen. Eagles 28, Cardinals 17.

Eagles Double Up Cardinals, Start MAC Play Strong

                      BY BRANDEN CROW
                      EASTERN ECHO SPORTS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

I've been writing about the Eagles since 2002, and never have I been more excited - nor has this campus been more excited - than we are right now for EMU football. Ron English and Talon Raiver have proven that they are for real, and that this Eagles team is here to win the MAC Championship. Obviously there is a long way to go until then, and doubling up on the second worst team in the conference (according to preseason rankings, anyway) isn't exactly beating a Top 25 school, there are a lot of positives being put on display each week. Junior Quarterback Tyler Benz put on a clinic today, and his recieving core helped him look his best, laying out for some incredible grabs that lead to scores. When they needed him, Bronson Hill was there for them again, running for 96 yards, 4 short of his total from last week.

The defense also did their job, allowing a mere 51 rushing yards (that passing defense leaves a lot to be desired, though, allowing ove 250 yards through the air). Make no mistake: this Ball State club is not a terrible team. The Eastern Michigan Eagles just made them look that way today. If the Eagles can continue to put up points like they did today, Talon Raiver's stock will continue to rise. This is a red-hot club looking to finally make a name for themselves. This should be a fun season!

Game Ball: QB Tyler Benz for his 5 TD outing, 186.8 QB rating, and 267 passing yards.

Up Next: The Eagles will enjoy the weekend off as they head into their first bye week. They will continue conference play the following week against Buffalo.
The Eastern Echo Prediction (2-2): As long as the Eagles keep their heads on and don't start overlooking teams, they should be fine. This bye week has the potential to cool them off a bit, but the currently 1-2 Buffalo shouldn't be a problem for this high octane offense. EMU 28, Buffalo 17.

The season is just five weeks old, and the Eastern Michigan University Eagles have to be the biggest surprise yet this season, coming out to a fiery 3-1 overall start, including a conference win against Ball State on the road, an SEC road win, and a BIG 12 home opener win. This is going to be a fun season for the Ypsilanti faithful.

Finally, here is how the Heisman Trophy race is breaking down. It is currently a battle of the Quarterbacks.

Are you surprised EMU got off to a 3-1 start?

Oh, absolutely. I've honestly never played with EMU before (I usually play with Western Michigan or Central Michigan when I play with a MAC school), so I had no idea how they'd fare. As I write this, though, and find out more about their history, I find myself caring and loving this team even more. I want nothing more than to succeed with them. I picked a perfect team for me because they have never had any national success, and only won one bowl game in their history. That's pretty crazy. I'm excited to play multiple seasons with this team.

Thank you for posting! You're my first official comment.

                              Eagles Overlook Bulls, Pay Price

Just like that, the balloon is popped. The Eagles did exactly what they needed to do to lose this game, and that was to overlook the Buffalo Bulls. With Notre Dame coming up next week, it was clear that the player's minds were not on the field, but instead were in South Bend. It took them an entire first half to get their heads right, but by then the turnovers had cost them dearly, and though they put up a heck of a fight in the last half, it was one turnover too many, and that undefeated MAC season vanished. Luckily for the Eagles, one loss in the MAC does not spell the end of their title hopes. They still have a chance to play for that title (Buffalo is, by the way, in the East while EMU is in the West), but they will have to clean things up in order to make that a reality. The points off of the bad interceptions thrown by Tyler Benz were why - even with Benz then going on to light up the secondary late in the game - the Eagles are now 1-1 in MAC play and 3-2 overall. The turnover that essentially sealed the deal, though, was when Benz tried to go for the long bomb, tossing it over 40 yards to the back of the endzone where the Bulls came down with it.

Game Ball: Sophomore WR Dustin Creel for his 111 yards and 2 TDs on 7 receptions.

Up Next: The Eagles head to South Bend for what will be their toughest opponent, on paper, of the season. The currently #8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Eastern Echo Prediction (2-3): It might be close, but I don't see Notre Dame losing at home to a MAC club. ND 35, EMU 28
