EA's cheat sheet to a better Career Mode

Hi EA. I have been a buyer of your FIFA series since the 1998 World Cup version. I have also been exclusively an offline career mode player. I have never played Ultimate Team or Online. You do not care about me. Nothing you have done in regards to your Career Mode has shown me you care about me as a customer. This has been made abundantly clear by the effort you have put into improving this mode over the years. Anything that you have tried to pass off as improvements has shown up broken. Team Sheets Anyone? I have very little faith this will change. However, I am going to pretend for a second that you do care. And if you did here is what one longtime customer would like to see implemented into career mode for FIFA 2016. (Notice I didn't say over the next few versions. EA, you have had more than enough time to do these things. The time is now!)

The objective of a career mode is to make a living world that the player then feels a part of. A world with history and decisions that affect the entire world. A world the player can jump into and play in. Here is the things that would make FIFA 16 career mode the mode we have patiently been waiting for.

    1. Player Cards
Currently when you click on any player you see their attributes and physical stats. You also see strengths and traits they may have. And that's it!
How about every player has a card that not only shows those things but also their playing history. A season by season stat line including what team they played for, their national team statistics if applicable, awards and their current contract terms. Current players would have those statsics already and then our career mode adds to them. At the end of Ronaldo's career I want to see how many goals he ended up with in my World.

    2. FIFA World Player of the Year Award
It is called FIFA. Now we have the FIFA player of the year award. And as a national team manger you get a vote. The game comes up with the three man shortlist and then you get a vote. You also get to see the results of the vote in an award ceremony. Also a World best 11 of the year.

    3. Milestones
Players reach milestones like their 100th national team appearance or their 100th goal for club. There should be short pre-game ceremonys for these achievements. If a player becomes his clubs all-time leading goal scorer there should be a ceremony. Make history matter.

    4. Expanded Statistics
Currently our statistics include goals, assists, cards and shutouts. Thats pathetic. How about statsics such as shots, shots on goal, tackles, blocked shots, saves. These are already tracked in the players game ratings. If I want to see who led the English league in shots on goal I should be able to. Which bring me to my next point.

    5. Other League Statistics
We should be able to see every statistic of every league. I should be able to see who is 15th in goals in the French League. Why? Why not? This is a basic requirement of any proper career mode.

    6. Transfer/Retirement Transaction log
How come players just disappear when they retire with no warning or trace. Thats embarassing. At the end of every season I should see a list of who retired. It would also be fun to click on their player card and see the type of career they had. I also want a transfer log. I want to see every transaction. The fee paid. The contract terms. Its a simple list I can access whenever I want to see whats going on during transfer season.

    7. Coaching Prestige/Board Trust
Currently coaches receive a wage. Which does NOTHING!! Am i supposed to buy stuff with this fake wage? Eliminate it and give coaches prestige just like teams are rated on the five star system. New coaches start as a half star and must work their way up. Real Madrid shouldnt hire me if I am a one and a half star coach. I also want a board trust meter. I want to know exactly where I stand with the board. Positive results increase the meter, negative results decrease the meter.

    8. FIX whats currently Broken
How about fixing team sheets, youth growth, CPU transfer logic, ect. There is some good stuff in career mode yet practically none of it works. Take a look at the bugs thread and it is 85% career mode issues yet when the patches come, career mode is overlooked again. What is fixed then becomes broken. Why does all the youth players my scout finds from Portugal have 4 names and all of them non-Portuguese? This came after a Patch!! Fix the broken stuff.

There is many other things that could vastly improve this mode but these basic things that are in every other proper career mode would be a great start. Career mode should be the mode that makes the gamer continue to come back. Unfortunately that is not the case.

If anyone has the power to pass this to EA please do. I know that their only concern is money. Perhaps someone could hand this to them written on a 100 dollar bill. Then and only then would they take a look.

I really like everything you have said there.

I mentioned it in another thread, but surely, on next gen consoles, they have the power to do this?

It's not as if, some code to track players transfers, goals, etc liek you said will take up vast amounts of memory, its not football manager, there is a limited database of players so keeping track of them should be easy.

Totally agree with all that you say, i rarely play online and never play FUT, career mode for me is where it's at.

become a pro could be so much better as well, but like you have said, it's almost as if EA dont care anymore

It's like you read my mind. I agree on every point. I don't understand how it's 2014 and they don't require their game to keep up with career stats and teams played for. That's ridiculous. The transfer log is needed, also. Currently, I'm WRITING DOWN all of the transfers just to keep up with where the heck everyone is going. Manager Mode needs sooo much work, but sadly, they only seem to care about FUT these days. Just look at their twitter account. It's nauseating!

They could fix that stuff, but then people might play less ultimate team and buy less packs. They don't want that now.

Re: EA's cheat sheet to a better Career Mode

Its come to the point where I would even consider paying for these things. You want a FIFA Player of the Year Award in career mode? Its a $2.99 add-on. Want to access player cards? $1.99 per league.

If money is all they care about at least give us the option. I would actually save money if they did this because currently every time I buy FIFA I spend another $60 on a new game two months later because I am so bored with it.

          SIGH!

Unless, I'm forgetting because I haven't played in a while but in 15 isn't there a transaction in MM now. I know there is one while the window is open but I don't remember if it there after the window slams shut.

This is a really good point.

NBA 2K have got it more or less right. I haven’t played this years game but I’ve been told it’s really good and the player is immersed in the world of basketball. They seem to be doing a lot right over there.

I’d love a lot of the stuff you’ve asked EA for but I doubt it will happen. I gave up on Madden because it was the same game for like 4 years in a row! I really don’t want to give up on FIFA. Although I have been looking at PES and the game modes they have…

Thank you for this. I was considering buying this game, now I won't.

I play offline career mode exclusively in EA sports games. I am sick of how they are ignoring that mode. The constant money grubbing with MUT in Madden made me stop turning on that game.

Nah, man, don't let us turn you off the game COMPLETELY. Even with these problems, I'd still highly recommend it. Just wish they had the things that have been listed, that's all. It's STILL the funnest sports game I've ever played. I think you would enjoy it. You could probably catch it at a good price these days, too.

I am sorry, I should have listed more details. I played the heck out of FIFA14. I thought there were some problems with owner Career mode (notably the transfer scouting), and was looking to see if those had been addressed in FIFA15.

This post informed me that they have not, and that the offline career mode had been neglected relative to other modes in FIFA15. Thus, I do not want to buy it.

I have an eight-tab Excel spreadsheet that I use to track my players, transfers, stats etc. While this is fun (I really do enjoy it) it's crazy that it's almost 2015 and the game can't (doesn't) do this for me.

i like your dedication! and as much as i love that idea, i just don't have the time to put that kind of effort into a game, that liek you say, should be able to do this for us!

It's a small thing but quite a big thing in a way - you should get a default intake of local youth players every year into your youth academy like on football manager.

At least that would go some way to solving the issue that nationality doesn't matter.

If I'm Leeds I want a majority of English youngsters, if I'm Dortmund I want a German youth intake.

Yes you should still be able to scout around, but it should be harder to sign youth players from other countries.

I'm big on this too. I have found recently, that FIFA does keep up with your team's moves. Go to the tab "sell players." Right stick. It will give you all the moves your team has made. In fact, it gives you the most recent moves your team made before FIFA 15. EX: I use Southampton. It shows how much the transfer for Mane, Tadic, Mayuka, Long, Forster.

I would like to add my very small, but very huge change to the game.
Change player roles! You can base it off overalls or pay, but there is no reason a 16 year old 58 overall has an "Important" role on Southampton!
Maybe if a player breaks 70 they become important. Or pay: Break 10,000 a week you are sporadic, 20,000 rotation, 30,000 important, 40,000 crucial. I want to keep the first window closed, but I have a team full of cry babies that think they are "important" when most are "future starters" at best. I went through every contract and every player on Southampton is "Important" or "Crucial."
I'm going to start a new career today. I'm going to try to resign my non important players with "no role." I'm curious to see how much money I will loss trying to fix EA's slip up.
By my count: 34 total (not including loaned out/loaned in).
15 should have "future starter" or no role. Maybe 3 should have "rotation player." Leaving 16 with "Crucial" or "Important."

Update: I was able to resign 15 players to reasonable roles. It cost me 40,000 in wages.......not expectable. I guess I need to leave the first window open and loan, loan, loan, loan......

But can we please keep in mind that FIFA has to simulate and keep track of stats for roughly 15 leagues and over 3000 players. NBA, NHL and the rest of the major North American sports games don't have anywhere close to that amount of players/teams/leagues/trophies/prospects to keep track of. Even with the extra horsepower of next-gen consoles, that is still a lot of pressure to put on the CPU during simulations.
