Re: 2014-15 Hot Stove League Thread
ya i understand y Kemp was the one to go. Anyone would be stupid to want Ethier and/or Crawford with those contracts. Other then the Giants I prob follow u guys the most (for obvious reasons) so I know y moves are made and what contracts are forcing what. Just kinda wanted a LA fans opinion really. I do like Freidman, not trashing him at all. The McCarthy signing I honestly think was horrible but thats just me. Anderson has to be the biggest thief in baseball because he constantly gets $10M 1 year deals and pitches 4 times a year.We got better defensively. I hated that we got rid of Matt Kemp, but it is what it is. Dee Gordon was young and had speed, but he couldn't hit and he isn't very good defensively. Howie Makes up for the defense and power at the plate. We obviously lost Hanley, but he was garbage defensively and had a hard time staying on the field. When the Rollins trade goes through we get a better defensive shortstop and a stop gap. With Heisey he'll platoon with Pederson in CF. Puig moves back to RF.
As for why Kemp got dealt rather than Crawford or Ethier is Kemp had the most value. No one really wanted Ethier or Crawford.
Van Slyke is very underrated and gives us pop off the bench.
I believe in our front office and what they are doing. We'll be better in runs saved this year. Our pitching staff 1-5 could very well be the best in baseball if Brett Anderson bounces back and Brandon McCarthy is the same guy the Yankees had.Comment

All of our pitchers are ground ball pitchers that's why we got Kendrick and Rollins up the middle.ya i understand y Kemp was the one to go. I like McCarthy. Once he was dealt to the Yankees he performed much getter due to the fact that the Yankees let him throw his cutter which the sdnakes never allowed him to do. Anderson is a good signing if he stays healthy. If not it's only $10 million spent. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we're made a run at James Shields or Max Scherzer if we can't get Cole Hamels.Comment

I will say I am jealous of u guys getting Morrow. I really like him and wanted the Giants to sign him for cheap like u guys did. Obviously if we get Shield or Scherzer I'll be plenty happy but ya all these new front offices in the NL West are def trying to catch up quick!Comment

ya and u guys are about to do sumthing trying to trade League by telling everyone u guys will pay 1/2. That bullpen is gonna be very matchup friendly i think. Gonna c if Maddingly has any hint of Bochy in him if thats the caseAll of our pitchers are ground ball pitchers that's why we got Kendrick and Rollins up the middle.

Blue Jays have reportedly signed 1B Daric Barton to a minor league deal.
Seems like an intriguing low risk/high reward type of thing but it's probably depth for the organization.
BTW about the Padres, I dunno what's behind all this aggression from them but i'm glad to see it. If you have an owner that wants to win and is willing to spend than SD is one of the nicest places you'd ever want to play in.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Well remember, Preller is a new GM, so it's really very smart on his part. Come in make noise by showing the fans u mean business and hello fan base. Very smart. That city is itching for a title. Padres, none. Chargers, none.Blue Jays have reportedly signed 1B Daric Barton to a minor league deal.

I really don't understand why the Rays would want to trade Wil Myers. They normally stockpile young talent, not get rid of it. As a Rays fan, I would be very disappointed to see him go. Yes, he won Rookie of the Year in 2013, but he hasn't yet hit his stride in Tampa. Hope it doesn't happen but at this point I'm sure it will.
The Padres are being super aggressive though. I'll give them that.Comment
