    NeverEnough Presents: Buzz City | A Charlotte Hornets MyGM Experience (NBA2K15)

    Let me just preface this with saying I'm a middle of the road basketball fan at best and have never done a franchise/dynasty/whatever for a basketball game. I've done a few Football ones on OS before and that's where I usually reside, but after taking a long break from that I decided to do something different. I'm from Washington and was hugely into the Sonics growing up and after they moved I somewhat fell off with basketball, although still usually follow the Thunder (yeah I'm in the minority on this one) enough to somewhat know how they're doing. I always catch the NBA playoffs though as that's always great fun to watch.

    As for how this is going to go. For now I'm going to go with the play 1 game sim one game philosophy and see how that goes. I chose to do MyGM because I felt it offered some fun aspects and since I'm not super die hard with basketball I don't care about the 30 team control as I do in baseball or football. So I suppose that's it for now, if you have any comments, questions, suggestions, etc. always feel free to PM me or post in here. Thanks!

                Rich Cho Ousted Yet Again

                Whatever the reasons may be, Rich Cho just isn't long for the position of general manager. Cho originally an intern with the Seattle Supersonics in 1995 while finishing a law degree from Pepperdine University and was later hired in 1997.

                From there he would serve in a few different positions and even made the trip to Oklahoma City when the team was sold and allowed to relocate. After a couple seasons under the Thunder, Cho went back north and became the 9th general manager of the Portland Trailblazers. Unfortunately for Cho that lasted less than a year, but found his feet with the Charlotte Bobcats.

                Even with the improvemnt last season, however, management felt that with the change back to the Hornets, it was time to move on to a new manager. Enter Korey Mison. Mison is somewhat of a parallel of Cho, as he too previously worked with the Thunder organization, as well as being somewhat successful in business management positions prior to basketball.

                  Meeting with Drew Samuels (CFO)
                  ================================================

                  Drew Samuels: Hey Drew, thanks for meeting with me. I've been hired by Mr. Jordan as sort of a more hands on partner. We need to turn a profit here so that's where my focus will be. On Behalf of the entire Charlotte Hornets family, I'd like to welcome you to the organization.

                  Korey Mison: Thanks, I'm so proud of the opportunity placed in front of me to become the next GM of the Charlotte Hornets.

                  Drew Samuals: Alright, well time is money, so we should probably get down to business. First thing is first, we're obviously not built to do anything right now so I want another good draft pick this year. Go out and get us one.

                  [thinking to myself: Great, first day on the job and I got to start making some moves. This will most likely be tough as heck as teams will be looking to test me]

                  Korey Mison: Yeah sure thing, that shouldn't be too hard. I'll start making some calls and get something done.

                  Drew Samuels: Ok, well I'm not talking like a second round pick or the backend of the first. Aim high, I really want to make a huge splash at the draft. After all it's my job on the line. Next thing on my list is playing time. I really want you to get Noah Vonleh out on the court at least 26 minutes a game.

                  [thinking to myself: Has this guy even taken a look at the roster yet? It really seems like he wants to set me up to fail. Oh well, I have to make a good impression on the first day right?]

                  Korey Mison: Oh yeah.....great....idea. Vonleh SHOULD be able to do some great things for us, I'll relay the message to coach.

                  Drew Samuels: I'm serious on that one, the future is now. Don't say I didn't warn you. Alright, now my wishlist item; team chemistry needs to stay above 45%.

                  [thinking to myself: Oh yeah sure add Lance Stephenson to the team and then expect this of me.]

                  Korey Mison: For sure. That's just as important to me.

                  Drew Samuels: Alright, well you've got a full plate now so I think we've done enough here for now. It was good to meet you Korey.

                  Korey Mison:....Yeah, you too.

                    ================================================
                    Staff Overview
                    ================================================

                    Chief Financial Officer: Thomas Spencer
                    Thomas is kind of a bully and the other guys on the staff can really tell. They ask him anything and he basically ignores them. He views his ideas as the best for business so others are always reluctant to talk to him. He does have potential, but we'll see if it ever pans out. Will definitely be on a short leash these next two years.

                    Assistant GM: Wyatt Sampson
                    My inherited assistant, I don't see much promise in this guy. The only upside I see in him is he's a smooth talker so he could help my first couple years in talking with players. He could actually be a big part of the build up of the future here, but I'll most likely find someone more suited to be my assitant.

                    Head Coach: Steve Clifford
                    Steve has been a long time assistant in the league and was finally given his shot at a head coaching gig last year and he helped us improve greatly. He's a defensive first coach and a great teacher, which is definitely useful in the beginning of a rebuild. Coach them up from defense and let the offense come. Great potential for us under Clifford.

                    Assistant Coach: Bob Weiss
                    Ah yeah I remember him from when he coached the Sonics where he lasted 30 games....talk about disappointing. He's actually a decent teacher, which can come handy from the assistant coach and he's also defensive first guy. He'll probably only work his 1 year left on the contract and then we'll look for a younger assitant coach who'll be able to stick around for a little bit.

                    Head Scout: Aiden Nicholson
                    Alright, this dude flat out scares me from a management stand point. He's careless at his job and everyone around here knows it. Does he have some kind of connections within the organization or what? This will most likely be my first move as general manager to get rid of this guy.

                    Trainer: Steve Stricker
                    This guy also scares me and for a different reason. First off he isn't happy in his job, but also he is also mediocre at best. This has all the look and feel of a budget hire. This could potentially harm our players rather than help so this guy could quickly be out the door as well.

                      GM Mison Makes Some Moves
                      ================================================

                      Yesterday the announcement was made that Korey Mison was tagged as the new GM of the Charlotte Hornets and it didn't take very long for him to start making some moves. The first thing Korey did was to cut ties with the team trainer and the head scout.

                      Head Scout: Hal Olson
                      The first move Mison made after firing the head scout and trainer was to find a new scout. There were a few that peaked their interest, but while conducting interviews Hal Olson made the biggest impact just with his upbeat personality and overall ability as a scout; enough so he was given a 3 year deal. Mison went all in with this signing.

                      Trainer: Andrew Dailey
                      Next Korey went in search after the next trainer of the Hornets. In the heaps of applications that Mison got there were only a couple that seemed like they would be a fit. During interviews, however, Andrew Dailey stood out from the pack. Dailey presented his holistic approach in his training methods and they must have worked as he was offered a 2 year deal.

                      Mison then took the later part of the deal and spent it on the phone with numerous different general managers around the league, speaking with nearly every team who he figured would be in at least the bottom half of the league. Things were looking like he might have to target an end of round team and possibly disappoint Mr. Samuels, when finally he was able to get something working with the Celtics.

                      In the deal, Mison agreed to send Lance Stephenson and the Hornets' 2017 1st round draft pick to Boston in exchange for Avery Bradley and Boston's 2015 1st round pick. According to Mison "We're really excited to have Avery Bradley here, his upbeat personality already has been pretty positive for this team. I feel like he'll be an important player going forward."

                            ================================================
                            2014/15 Charlotte Hornets Roster Breakdown
                            ================================================

                            Centers:
                            Al Jefferson (87): Over the course of the past 8 seasons Jefferson has established himself as a good go to option at the center position, averaging between 17 and 23 points per game to go along with 9 to 11 rebounds per game. He will definitely be one of the main focuses on the team, if not the main one. Basically everything will be run through him one way or another.

                            Cody Zeller (74): Coming into his second year in the league, Zeller gives us the best height option and is another offensive option at the 5 spot. Cody is along the same lines of Jefferson in that he's a bit more offensively focused, however, he needs to do a bit better than his rookie season. He'll definitely get the looks, so it'll be up to him to make the most of the opportunities.

                            Bismack Biyombo (73): The former first round pick has yet to live up to the hype that surrounded him a few years ago. With that said Biyombo has started to gain some traction as a defender and could very well be our most important big man defensively. Although he won't see a ton of time over the course of the season, defense is where he can still be felt.

                            Power Forwards:
                            Marvin Williams (74): Marvin Williams will get the starting spot at the power forward position to start the year. He's a little bit on the smaller side from what I like in the position, however, he is a good perimeter shooter so he should actually give us the ability to expand the floor and stretch out the defense to create holes for other players.

                            Noah Vonleh (73): Vonleh, now tagged as Drew Samuels' golden boy, is somewhat of a freaky athlete and still super young at 19 years old. He'll definitely have time to grow into himself and become something real good. It'll be out job to reign him in a bit and not put too much on him too early.

                            Jason Maxiell (68): Just like Biyombo, the third string at his position, Maxiell is the best defender of the group. Maxiell is also the best strength/big power forward of the group so look for him as a defensive substitute later in games.

                            Small Forwards:
                            Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (78): Yet another first round pick on the Hornets' roster, Kidd-Gilchrist hasn't exactly exploded off the page. He's now viewed as sort of a rebounding specialist so he'll be looked at as for of a defender at this point, as well as facilitator on the offensive end grabbing boards. I hope for him to develop a little more on the offensive end of things to make him a bit more of a more rounded player. If that does happen this kid will be another key piece to the team.

                            Gerald Henderson (76): Henderson is a guy that some view as the man who should be starting at the 3 spot, but for now he'll be the guy putting pressure on Kidd-Gilchrist. For the past three years Henderson has been a key player averaging 14 to 15 points per game and being decent behind the arch. Look for more of the same role this year as a wing player.

                            Jeff Taylor (72): There seems to be a theme flowing throughout the roster and Taylor continues the trend, being the defensive guy for his group. Looked at as kind of the complimentary player to Henderson, Taylor is a good wing defender who will be crucial to shut down 3 point shooters, specifically late in games. He's currently out for 2-4 weeks on suspension, but when he's back defense is where he'll live.

                            Shooting Guards:
                            Avery Bradley (78): Bradley, who was just acquired from the Boston Celtics, will take the spot of the guy he was traded for. He is a good two way guard who can not only shoot the deep ball, but also play some tough defense, which will be necessary for our core. Bradley might be a little small at 6'2, but I think he'll be one of the key guys for us this year and hopefully more.

                            Gary Neal (76): Gary Neal is a straight up shooter. There really is no way around the fact that Neal's sole purpose will be to shoot the ball. He really isn't the best defender out there, but when it comes to shooting he is top notch, especially from 3.

                            P.J. Hairston (71): Hairston is the 2 with the best size, but just like Neal he is a fearless scorer who lacks a bit on defense. When we get in a pinch, we'll definitely look to get Hairston out there to try and drill some from deep.

                            Point Guards:
                            Kemba Walker (80): Kemba will be looked at as the leader of the team and has the best all around game. Matched up with Bradley, they should form a good 1-2 punch. We'll have to find a good balance with Walker to allow him to score, while also distributing the rock. With the forwards being more defensive minded, it may not become much of an issue and we may look for Walker to be near the top of the team scoring.

                            Brian Roberts (74): Brian Roberts is another really skilled playmaker like Kemba, although not quite the same level. Still, Roberts will be looked at to relieve Walker and make things happen getting other players in a position to score.

                            Jannero Pargo (67): Pargo rounds out the guards and continues to 'guards who shoot' group as well. Basically another shooter who will just come in sparingly and look to add to our bench's scoring total every game.

                              Even though it's the start of the season and it's really too early to tell anything as to who the top prospects coming out of college might be, it isn't too early to have fun talking about it. With regards to the three big scouting gurus out there we're going to take a look at who I feel averages out to the top 5 players based on all of three opinions.

                              It is kind of strange that three of the top 5 players to start the year are centers and two of them I feel are the most intriguing of the group. At #3 is Rudy Gooden out of Memphis listed as 7'1 271 lbs and at #5 is Tomas Kersey out of Mississippi State listed as 7'1 274 lbs. They're both really big and both almost identical, including their wingspan at 7'7 & 7'6. The last of the big men is Vlade Lukovsky out of Serbia who really isn't that big at 6'9 223 lbs so he'll most likely move somewhere else. The real guys to watch this year though might just be #1 Coby Harrington out of Illinois and D.J. Givens out of George Washington; a PG and SG respectively. Givens is the most athletic freaky looking guy out there standing at only 6'1, but measuring a wingspan of 6'10, that's NUTS!!
