April 2015

FC St. Pauli 1 - Darmstadt 1
STP - Nöthe 16' (Pen)
DAR - Holland 57'
MOTM: Tschauner

Thy was taken down roughly in the box and a penalty was awarded to St. Pauli as a result. Nöthe stepped up and converted to the right side of the net for the early lead. Holland got the ball on the left side of the goal and forced the defender to step the wrong way and placed it inside the near post for the equalizer.

Karlsruher SC 2 - FC St. Pauli 3
KSC - van der Biezen 16', Yabo 40'
STP - Thy 13', Çiftçi 34', 79'

Thy came down the right wing and attacked towards the middle of the box before firing a shot past the keeper for the lead. Van der Biezen then scored off a loose ball from a corner that no defender was able to clear. Rzatkowski then played a ball from way behind midfield over the top for Çiftçi to run onto and beat the keeper to the far left post. Yabo ran past three defenders who stopped paying attention and tapped in a cross to equalize. Rzatkowski got out ahead on the counter and attacked the right side of the goal before laying it off for the trailing Çiftçi to tap in on the left post for the winner.

FC St. Pauli 5 - FSV Frankfurt 0

Storm attacked from left to right before laying it off the van Nieff for a strong first time shot at the top of the box into the top right corner. Çiftçi then headed home a great cross into the box from Maier to extend the lead. Çiftçi then got out ahead of the defense on the counter and beat the keeper to the right post. Zelalem then took the ball in himself and fired a shot that was saved, but knocked in the rebound. Van Nieff then chipped a ball just over the back line and Çiftçi first timed it out of the air past the keeper for a hat-trick.

Strauß had his shot blocked by the defender but the ball fell right back to him and he placed it past the keeper for the lead. Buchtmann played Çiftçi through on the right side of the goal for the easy finish on the near post to force the draw.

St. Pauli Player of the Month

Yoell van Nieff

Yoell van Nieff controlled the midfield all month, winning tough tackles, and playing a part in the attack as well. His tough brand of football has endeared him to the fans and has certainly helped out the back line who have struggled from time to time.

Press Conference
Q: You have a 6 point lead at the top of the table with only 2 matches left to play. All you need is to take at least 1 point and you secure the league title. Do you think you will be lifting that trophy by the end of the season?

A: I have no doubt that we will. I can't imagine us losing these last two matches, and on top of that Dusseldorf would have to win both. We have the advantage right now, and we won't give that up when we've come this far.

Q: Christopher Nöthe, your leading scorer, went down in the first match of the month with an injury. How tough was it to replace his presence for the remainder of the month?

A: Christopher is a big part of what we try to do. Not only in his goal scoring abilities, but in his hold up play as well. Luckily Nadir Çiftçi was up for the challenge and was really able to step up and take over the attack for us. It gives me a lot of confidence heading into next season to have two players of these abilities.

Q: How prepared is this club for the next step to the Bundesliga next season? The increase in competition is nothing to scoff at. Will you be making changes, or will you try to keep this core of players moving into next year?

A: I think that it is a challenge we are looking forward to. We know that playing against the Bayern's and the Dortmund's is something that will be tough, but if we want to become one of the elite clubs in Germany in time, then this is how we have to do it. After the season is over I will have to evaluate the roster and then decide on any necessary changes, but I am confident that we have several players who are capable of handling the top division.
