Rannell Hall's miraculous 50 yard TD grab in the closing seconds sent the game to OT.
These types of games, I feel like... just strangling my keyboard.
UConn dominated the entire second half, and frankly deserved to win this game over the ranked UCF Knights. But they didn't. And, as it has been most of the year, it was the defense's fault.
Fact of the matter is, Justin Holman was the cause of defeat. Despite being sacked many, many, many times, Holman somehow managed to throw for 351 yards, 4 scores, and run for another 118 yards and score.
I know, I feel the same way. Completely unacceptable.
Holman and William Stanback gave UConn fits all day, Stanback racking up an additional 153 yards and 2 scores, and it was Stanback catching screen passes that went for TD's, and doing the dirty work on the floor, like spinning out of 2 tackles, cutting left, breaking another than taking it the distance for a 47 yard score. It's things like that that make the two so hard to stop.

William Stanback, spun, twirled, stiff armed and ran his way to 153 yards on only 16 carries.
But, into the recap.
Stanback got the only score of the first quarter, and UConn would get a pair of scores coupled with a late UCF receiving TD to tie the game at the half.
But the scoring was only starting. At the outset of the 3rd, Geremy Davis busted the UCF coverage and took a Tim Boyle pass 62 yards for the score. Stanback's aforementioned 47 yard run tied the game at 21, but the game took an incredible turn from there.
Deshon Foxx, struggling with injuries and inconsistency from the wideout spot all year, FINALLY dialed up the heavens or something, because Foxx got some incredible blocking from the coverage unit, and outran ere'body to the house, 96 yards for the score. Just like that, 28-21 UConn.
The short lived momentum ended in about 2 minutes' time when UConn, fooled again on the stupid running back screen to the right (legal but clueless as to how UConn couldn't stop this).
We'll flash forward to later in the 4th.
About a whole... (Checks watch).... 9 seconds forward.
Foxx, going into zen mode, got some decent blocking to the left, spun around a UCF special teamer, beat the kicker, and was in the open field again.
Breaking off a tackle at the 20, the immortal Foxx chugged into the end zone, again, for a UConn record 2nd return TD in the game. Or, more accurately, 1:53 worth of play.

The almighty, the immortal, Deshon Foxx.
Oddly enough, there was no scoring for the next 6 minutes. Go figure.
But UConn stopped UCF twice in this span. Giving the ball back both times.
We'll go forward to about 1:30 in the game, with UCF driving down 35-28. Inside the 5, Holman decided to try to throw for it. His usual scrambling lanes clogged, he looked to throw to Breshad Perriman. He looked, but what he found was instead Byron Jones.
Jones snatched it in the end zone, took a knee, and it was all over but the crying.
But Boyle had other plans. The jubilation on offense hasn't been discussed to this point. So why not? Boyle threw for 262 yards, and had a pair of TD's with 2 picks. One was completely preventable, the other just a great play.
Anyway, with UCF certain to use all 3 timeouts, it was just a matter of getting a first down. Max DeLorenzo choked and was 3 yards short.
Justin Wain, the former walk-on who is, frankly, not very good, only got about 35 yards on his punt and was returned by the electric J.J. Worton to the 50.
UCF and Holman did still have 45 seconds. Not over yet...
I'm guessing UConn didn't get that memo. Jones, who slipped or something, was way out of line when Holman through up a bomb to Rennell Hall, and Hall walked into the end zone.
Tie game. Oh boy.
Refreshing your memory, this is not the first time UConn has been in OT this year. Rewinding to Boise State, that memorable triple OT game ended on a fumble six. Surely this ran through my mind through the OT of this one.
Fortunately, it didn't end quite like that.
Boyle, not the fastest guy alive but blessed with the heart of Tom Brady, willed up the courage to get a 9 yard TD run, forcing UCF to the wall. Again.
Holman didn't care. He found Perriman for a 26 yard score. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised at this point, right?
Oh, yeah, and Holman got UCF a score at the start of the 2nd OT, too. (Cue mindless rolling of eyes).
It was now Boyle's turn to save his team from the abyss. But after being sacked on 2nd down and throwing an incompletion on 3rd, his desperation heave to Deshon Foxx in the end zone was batted down, sealing the UCF win and sealing more agony in UConn fans.
But hey, the improvement shown today was superb. At least we can compete with good teams like UCF. I mean, UConn lost to Towson last year. By a lot.
At least we're going somewhere.
See ya in 2 weeks.

Geremy Davis has a solid chance to surpass 1000 yards receiving again in 2014.
