Twitter Rage Reveals 2k Direction on Online Leagues

The last couple of weekends have rendered 2ks online modes damn near unplayable with crippling lag, rampant disconnects, and unreliable servers. Although the servers are generally stable during the weekdays, there has been an undeniable correlation between the increased online activity and the stressed 2k server load during this peak time of online gaming. Suffice to say the online league mode always gets the short end of the stick when 2k server load allocation are rationed in comparison to the more popular mypark, online rank, and my team modes. Time and time again, OL members get the dreaded error below during intense 12 min matches that rely on server stability to complete time consuming league games.

Amid this frustration, a twitter and OS member decided to blindly target the 2k devs with vitriolic rhetoric that wouldn't be tolerated on these boards. However, amidst the heated back and forth, there were truths that were revealed about 2ks direction or lack there of online leagues and associations in the present and future.

The twitter user had just experienced a numerous disconnects and sent out a generic 2k servers suck message to whichever dev he thought would respond and Da Czar took the bait.

Da Czar could've just left with the comment below but the twitter user obviously hit a nerve with the venemous tone albeit with legit concerns about broken online leagues and 2k disastrous servers.

The conversation then veered into 2ks direction of still being committed to sim gameplay inspite of their terrible servers, with the da czar encouraging the twitter user to check out the sim hangouts on YouTube for verification. This was a revelation for me as I hadn't heard of the hang outs and the in depth discussions there about 2k in general.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the heated exchange, atleast as it pertains to the future of Online Leagues are below, when Da Czar reveals just how low a priority they are for the 2k devs due to numbers that reveal how little the community uses the feature. But after documenting the barebones and broken OLs in another thread here on OS, how can these numbers be used as basis for continued neglect, when some users cannot even CREATE online leagues due to an upload error? If 2k builds a viable OA mode that functions as advertised, who is to say that the mode won't receive more attention and time from the community? Has 2k not seen the success of Madden's Connected Online Franchise Mode? In my opinion, if they build it, they will come. But to say that users aren't devoting time to a broken mode was perplexing even though Da Czar had every reason to be dismissive of a disrespectful twitter user.

When another twitter user stepped in to correct the misguided twitter user on the fact the Da Czar wasn't in charge of the mode, it became painfully obvious that our beloved mode will see minimal if any improvement for 2k16.

There were more explosive back and forths during this exchange, but the gist of the matter is that OL and OA will eventually be phased out in favor of the more popular "My" Modes. Da Czar is one of the few devs who is advocating improvements for this god forsaken mode, so if you are supporter of Online Leagues and Associations, let your voice be heard, lest we lose perhaps the most sim aspect of online gameplay in 2k. Starting a league, which isn't even possible for some users due to lg custom roster upload glitches have driven OL community into the abyss. If 2k are using numbers to justify the neglect, those numbers aren't valid so long as the mode is utterly useless in its current state.

Why would anyone play a mode that doesn't function correctly?

Obviously the numbers will be low.

This is ********. Instead of complaining about online leagues you should have just said lag on general. I'm with czar on this. Completely pointless argument. I'mextremely disappointed in the community as oflate.

Maybe if the community drafted up a formal letter it would be received better.

With all due respect, I think you've extrapolated that exchange FAR beyond what it is. A dude starts firing at the devs directly, and Czar responds that the insults don't get results basically. He makes ONE comment how not many people have EVER played that mode - even in it's relative glory days mind you - and you take that to mean that OL is low priority. Well, maybe it is. It sucks (as you know, I'm a HUGE fan of that mode). Being a LOW priority doesn't mean that dudes there aren't passionate about it. It just means that they have limited resources that have to be managed toward features that are more important to more fans of the game. It's childish to think that it shouldn't work that way. The KEY tweet from Czar is that the dude IS arguing with the one dude that's behind him 100%. We here KNOW how that bleeds sim in ALL aspects.

At the end of the day, I don't know how someone can use the current, overloaded server issues as a platform to improve OL. They have nothing to do with each other - another one of Czar's points. I want this feature fixed as much as anyone else here. But crying about lag and overloaded servers in March is a strawman to that cause.

The worst thing about this thread is how the OP is jumping to a ton of conclusions and assuming what Czar meant in his tweets. We all know what happens when you "assume"...

Czar did not say 2K is phasing out League play. You came to that conclusion on your own.

              Regarding the tweets themselves....
"Us sim heads tried to be polite to guys but the sim community is always ignored. Time to insult you guys"

Sim is a lifestyle. A mature one. That's what Czar is trying to get across to the young man. Making the sim community and movement look bad with selfish, emotional displays of foolishness does not do the community any favors. Any clown can call themselves sim. Actions speak louder than words. Levar isn't speaking for the sim community when he says "us simheads". He is speaking for himself, and himself alone.

Likewise, Czar is only one voice inside of 2K, and these types of threads are only going to cost the community their voice if and when the higherups one day decide they don't want Czar to respond to these cretins because it paints the company in a bad light.

As someone who has some inside perspective with the company, has been working on the game from the outside for 12 years, and has been in your position before, here's some friendly advice.

If a tree falls down in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

                  Think about it.

Re: Twitter Rage Reveals 2k Direction on Online Leagues

I get hit up a ton by NBA 2K users (including homie from these tweets) about the complaints on online leagues and honestly, I can't blame him. Now insulting someone is a bit much but when those big youtubers who play MyTeam or MyPlayer trash the game its waved off. One of the cats went off over some MyTeam card if I'm not mistaken.

The frustration level for a bunch of us has spilled over due to the mode we enjoy being "ignored" while we constantly get MyTeam and MyPlayer stuff thrown into our faces every time we load up the game. Our mode is unplayable while their mode gets all the attention.

The reason people don't play online leagues? In the kindest words I can find right now - its terrible. Not even close to being playable.

Maybe the frustration from the "forgotten few" will smooth out if there was a some line of communication that they are working on it. Maybe a simple poll of what we would like to see? Beluba did it for the shot meter, I'm sure it could be done for this, right?

I've supported the Sim Hangouts AND sent emails to people (with no response that they even read it) but I still have doubts that the mode will be revamped to something we could enjoy from October to October.

Da Czar is a mustard seed of faith but I don't know what he works on. He may be just a gameplay guy and the guys/gals responsible for online leagues work in a different part of the building. I mean, he and Chris may be able to get our ideas to those guys over some Subway but until then we just have to sit on our hands.

I'd personally pay my own way to California just to sit down with the online league group. I just want the mode to be playable. I don't think any of us are looking for "the greatest mode ever" right off the bat but a playable foundation would suit us just fine.

No where does he say anything to suggest the direction of online leagues. Taking everything he said out of context while ranting on to someone who obviously isnt head of the company. We already know where they going with it by the past few years lol. A+ for effort tho

Basically online leagues are doomed from the starts. Every commercial and every load up has to do with my player. I would not be shocked if the next step is my player leagues. Where we would all team up on one team and play other leagues/teams They know the leagues don't work and nobody is saying that the gameplay is not sim. What is being said is that online leagues are not functional and not one developer has responded to any questions. Ask da czar if he is currently in any online leagues. If so which ones. I would challenge anyone with a league that records their games to respond. I get that 2k is taking in the money madden ultimate team style with myplayer/my team modes. Facts are I would pay extra money for a working association mode. This is not about gameplay, it is about game modes

                          Hello Biggieruth,
Both Evolve and WWE 2K15 are run on different servers than NBA 2K15. Because NBA relies so heavily on servers, they are handled differently from our other games. I am not surprised that the other games work fine, to be completely honest with you. Based on our ongoing conversation, I am certain that the issue is related to the NBA 2K15 server only.
Unfortunately I still have no possible solutions for you as the problem has yet to be found and fixed.
                          Best regards,

I apologize for the long delay, I was waiting for any new information from the development team regarding your connection issues to the 2K Sports server. Unfortunately, nothing has turned up so that leads me to believe that it is your Internet connection that has trouble reaching the 2K Sports server specifically.
I'm afraid that in order to improve your latency, you will have to change or upgrade your Internet connection. I apologize that I do not have any better solution for you. To be honest, I have experienced a similar issue myself, albeit with another game. I resorted to switching ISP's to a cable provider and my connection became stable after I made the switch.
                              Thank you for understanding,
