NHL 16: Upcoming Potential Rule Changes And How They'll Impact the Game

The NHL always seems to be reviewing new ways to create offense, reduce injuries and increase excitement for fans, and this off-season looks to be no exception. The general managers of all 30 NHL teams usually table various ideas, and those ideas are mulled over by the NHLPA and the “competition committee.” If both sides can find agreement, the league ratifies the new rules and usually implements them for the next season.

There are three big ideas that are getting traction this year, including a modified overtime format to reduce shootouts, a challenge system for controversial plays and a revamp of the all-star game to provide more excitement for fans. All of these would be interesting to see reflected in NHL 16, but depending on how elaborate some of this gets, it might be something that has to be patched in.

Real life 3 on 3 would be awesome. Heck I would like the NHL to go 4-4 instead of the 5-5. The game is so much more fun to watch 4-4. However in video game terms this will be one heck of a gong show. However is really good at carrying that puck and skating around is going to love it. Lots of easy goals

WORK on getting the BASIC'S right first before venturing into new territory! EASHL should be your main focus along with fixing gameplay aspects first.

      Just my two cents!

As far as 3-on-3, since it is already in use in the AHL and since we were PROMISED a return to season play in the other leagues, you would assume it's already going to be there.
Coaches challenge might be difficult to implement as was stated, As far as the All-star Game I haven't played an all-star game in a video game in my life, so couldn't care less.

They need to address the passing system once the puck is in the opposing teams zone and the goalie interference calls are way too frequent

they want offense in hockey, get rid of offside when their are defensive players in the offensive zone. and get rid of that off-sides 2 line pass.

Honestly, until they can get it so that all of the rules currently are in hockey are in the game, I'm not too worried about how they handle overtime.

Honestly I can't see how the can change be a gm. Player don't grow, after a couple years nearly everyone drafted player is under 200 lbs.

When do we normally start to get news about the next NHL game? I don't watch a lot of hockey mostly just watch the sharks and I don't understand all the rules and I never played the NHL games a lot but I did like some of the old NHL games. But I heard that NHL 15 had a lot of things missing and just didn't live up the hype so I am interested to see if NHL fixes a lot of things and brings back a lot of things or not.

Usually in May into June is when EA starts releasing tidbits of info.

heres the deal, since EA told little lies and waited until the week before to mention that their game was bare bones when they had two years of development time, I passed on their game last year and learned I really don't need a hockey game to be happy. I haven't wasted a second thinking about an NHL game. So ea has lost me as a hockey customer. Now they are going to have to work real hard to impress upon me that their next outing is with $60. Plus by no means will their game be a day one purchase like years before because their track record on game Launches has been recently brutal in the "next gen" era. So my advice to EA is get your teasers out early, be transparent in your development, and work your tails off because you allowed a slam dunk customer the opportunity to try new things when you put out a half %#^ product and I realized I don't need your product anymore.

Fancy rule changes are pointless when the Franchise mode (BAGM) is on par with NHL 2000 for the Game Boy Color.
