With Tim Howard at 37/38 years old he will be gone by then.
Picking the team for the first set of friendlies was so fun. I know the USMNT like the back of my hand and all of the young prospects. It is pretty cool actually knowing who to try out and give chances to develop. As for my keeper come WC 2018, Guzan should be up for the challenge.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

After a couple of kick-off games with Sampdoria, I think I've figured out how I want to handle this: a core of 5 to 7 Italian players, 2 to 3 British imports, and the rest from countries whose players tend to gravitate towards Serie A (Serbia, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, Poland). I'm still playing around with different formations, so it'll be a while before I decide exactly which players to pursue.

EDIT: Pretty sure it'll be the narrow 4-4-2 diamond with a free-roaming winger at CAM.

Really good month with a lot of goals! That Real game looked fun but also nerve wrecking I bet! A draw at Anfield isn't that bad.

A lot of 1-0's but the points are what matters and you are picking them up and starting catch City. Great results against Chelsea and Real! You are doing amazingly well in Europe! (Unlike IRL )

What a month! I counted 4 clean sheets and wins against the big 3 and Sevilla who are no push overs. The only blip was Europe but you are still in with a shout for that. Great job on moving up to 3rd btw. Good to see you have taken the USA job and looks like you haven't had any problems adjusting!

The 4-4-2 Diamond tight I prefer due to their being no gaps in the middle and you can almost win every midfield battle. Free roaming winger is also great. I have Gray (who is a winger) in that CAM role and does wonders for me.

EDIT: Saying that I'm thinking of changing to a 4-3-3 with a DM if I buy a winger in the January transfer window.

When I did my first Liverpool career I used exactly that formation with a free roaming Sterling at CAM. It worked out great and the only reason I'm not using it now is to change it up a bit.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Well since I completely changed my formation for this season I thought I would post what my current tactics are. Last season I was using a 4-2-3-1 with Helder Postiga as the lone striker, Lucas Perez as the #10 behind him, and then Isaac Cuenca and Luis Fariña on each wing.

Well, Fariña and Perez were both loaned players, and I sold Postiga and Cuenca giving me the chance to completely restructure my attack. Pre-contract agreements brought in Jonathan Urreta, David Barral, and Keko to substantiate the losses in the attack. I didn't have any #10 that I felt comfortable with in that role so I decided to switch to a strike pair up front and use a holding midfield combination with wingers on each side.

The move that made the holding combination with no #10 actually work was when I brought in Andres Guardao after selling Haris Medunjanin. His work rate is outstanding on both ends and he can get up and down to be the link between the strikers and the midfield.

A couple of notes. This is my current XI based on recent form. My wing options also include Jonathan Urreta (74) on the left and Javier Aquino (75) on the right. Fabricio (71) also starts in goal for all cup competitions.

I've realized I won't really be able to give you guys proper end of the season and roster review updates, so be aware that you're going to get some sort of express version this time around. I tried doing my regular update on Friday and just couldn't do it.

                  Ha Ho He

                  December 2015

                  Standart Liege 0 - 4 Hertha BSC
                  Drmic 5', 8', Ben-Hatira 12', Hahn 70'

This game was much more important for Liege than for Hertha. The Berliners had already secured their place in the knockout stages while Liege were fighting for the second place. The game didn't start well at all for the Belgians because Josip Drmic was played through in the 5th minute. The young attacker calmly curled the ball into the top right corner. Three minutes later he scored an almost identical goal. Four minutes after that Änis Ben-Hatira got the ball in the middle. He ran through the whole attacking half before shooting the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. In the second half Andre Hahn added one more to the scoreline from a counter attack.

                  1899 Hoffenheim 0 - 3 Hertha BSC
                  Lustenberger 10', Kalou 28', Ben-Hatira 90'

In the second game of the month Hertha beat Hoffenheim away from home convinsingly. The captain who has rumours about leaving surrounding him got the lead from a corner kick only ten minutes into the game. Before the half time mark Salomon Kalou doubled the lead after Ben-Hatira played a great pass to him. In the last minutes of the game the Tunisian winger went ahead and got a goal himself by dribbling past the keeper and putting the ball into the net.

                  Hertha BSC 4 - 0 Hannover 96
                  Stocker 12', Hahn 45', Kalou 68', 74'

This home match against Hannover 96 lead to Hertha's third clean sheet this month. Once again the scoreline was opened early. This time the keeper Zieler played a bad pass which was intercepted and put into the net by Valentin Stocker in the 12th minute. Right before half time Andre Hahn got the second of the day from a counter attack. After the hour mark Salomon Kalou cut in from the right to curl the ball into the bottom right. A few minutes later he got a brace after Änis Ben-Hatira played him through one-on-one.

                  Real Sociedad 1 - 3 Hertha BSC
                  Castro 40'
                  Ben-Hatira 9', Drmic 23', Cigerci 88'

The last group game saw Hertha BSC beat Real Sociedad and make sure that the Spaniards don't progress in the competition. The Berliners managed to score again in the first 10 minutes. The man in form Änis Ben-Hatira cut in from the left wing, got past two defenders and shot a powerful shot to the top left corner. Fifteen minutes after that Josip Drmic scored from a counter attack. A couple of minutes before half time Chory Castro pulled one back with an amazing shot from outside the box. Both teams had some chances in the second half but only Tolga Cigerci managed to score his. He stole the ball from Sociedad's defender and placed a low shot into the bottom left corner. Hertha's next opponent will be Napoli from Italy.

                  Borussia Dortmund 1 - 2 Hertha BSC
                  Hamsik 57'
                  Werner 52', Stocker 79'

Two good teams faced each other in this exciting game. Hertha didn't reach their top level but Dortmund were playing well. The Berliners scored first when Timo Werner curled the ball into the net from a counter attack in the beginning of the second half. The lead didn't last long as Marek Hamsik's nicely placed equaliser found it's way to the net. Hertha then started pushing forwards and in the 79th minute Roman Weidenfeller parried Maximilian Arnold's shot. Valentin Stocker was the first man to reach and he managed to put the ball into the net to secure the three points!

                  Round of 16
                  VfB Stuttgart 1 - 2 Hertha BSC
                  Ginczek 45'
                  Hahn 25', Drmic 65'

The cup game wasn't Hertha's best performance but they did everything they needed to do. A few minutes before the half an hour mark the ball was played to Andre Hahn in the box who then shot it into the bottom right corner with a half-volley. Twenty minutes later Stuttgart's Ginczek scored from a corner kick which was parried by Sascha Burchert in goal. At the hour mark Josip Drmic scored the winning goal with an outside of the boot shot to secure his team's place in the quarter finals.

                  Player of the Month

                  Änis Ben-Hatira

While Salomon Kalou is enjoying a rollercoaster of form other players have gotten into the spotlight. This month it was Änis Ben-Hatira's turn. The quick and skillful winger was a joy to watch in December as he assisted, scored, created chances and defended well.

                  Hot or Not

                  Hot

                  Änis Ben-Hatira

The winger was chosen as the player of the month and he scored and assited a couple of important goals.

                  Valentin Stocker

The attacking midfielder had another very good month in the number 10 role of Hertha's formation. He assisted like always and he scored an important goal against Borussia Dortmund. The Swiss man is the league leader in assists.

                  Josip Drmic

The young striker continued to bang in goals in the cup games of December. He netted four goals in three games and some fans want Drmic to be the starter instead of Kalou. Drmic is already starting to reach his potential.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I'll post in greater detail tomorrow, but I just wanted to let you know that I've completed most of my transfer business before my first friendly. I sold Savvas Gentsoglou (Middlesbrough), Luca Rizzo (Brescia), Renan Garcia (Cagliari), and Juan Antonio (Bologna) for a combined £2.4M. That's another £1.8M onto my budget of £7.5M after board deductions, bringing my total to £9.3M.

I brought in Gary Mackay-Steven (Dundee United) for Angelo Palombo plus £1M, Nathan Redmond (Norwich City) for Eder Martins plus £1M, Uros Spajic (Toulouse) for Daniele Gastaldello plus £1M, Koen Casteels (Hoffenheim) for Sergio Romero plus £1.5M, and Luke Shaw (Manchester United) on a season loan for £40K a week. A total spend of £4.5M brings me down to £4.8M and around £55K in wages, which is plenty of money to make one more really good signing/upgrade or to convert into wages and use on Bosmans in January.

The 4-2-3-1 looks a bit like this: Viviano; De Silvestri, Spajic, Regini, Shaw; Obiang, Krstcic; Gabbiadini, Mackay-Steven, Redmond; Okaka Chuka. On the bench we have Casteels, Salomon, Cacciatore, Campaña, Sansone, Soriano, and Bergessio. In reserve we have Da Costa, Fornasier, Laczko, Duncan, Marchionni, Wszolek, and Fedato.

We go into the preseason facing Stuttgart, West Ham and Mainz. I expect us to pick up at least two wins out of three.

                          Ameobi 20

                          Markovic 103

Sturridge gave us the lead early on in the game, his toe poked volley being saved but he was able to knock in on the rebound. Ameobi equalised with a powerful effort beyond Mignolet from just inside the box, but Mignolet should have saved it. Bolasie struck the post from the edge of the area on the stroke of half time. Balo hit the post just after half time, the ball unfortunately curling away from the goal and striking the inside of the far post from a tight angle. Minutes later, Chamakh smashed in when found in open space by Bolasie inside the box. Balo equalised from the spot soon after, after he was rugby tackled by Scott Dann. Mignolet forced into a good save just after the hour mark to deny Ledley's curling effort from distance. Speroni was forced into 2 great saves just before full time, denying both Clyne and Moreno stunners from outside the box from set piece routines. In extra time, Speroni made yet another amazing save, this time denying Ibe what would have been the best goal he would ever score. The ball dropping over his shoulder he smashed it with his left on the volley without looking and Speroni made the best save of his career, keeping it out with one hand at the very top corner. However, the keeper could do nothing to deny Markovic a screamer that found what Alan Smith likes to call the postage stamp, smashing in from the corner of the box. Mignolet made a wonderful save to deny Williams a brilliant volley, amazing reflexes to dive across the goal and get a fingertip to the powerful effort.

                          Match 14

                          Liverpool 0-0 Sunderland
We were absolutely dominated in this match, having just 39% of the possession. Defoe had a shot saved excellently by Mignolet and Cattermole hit the post from point blank range. Mignolet was also able to turn a Giaccherini shot onto the post and our defence was incredible.

Champions League Group Stage Match 6

                          LOSC Lille 1-3 Liverpool
                          Gray 28
                          Gray 61
                          Lambert 74
                          Basa 87

Lille dominated the possession and had more shots but we made our count. Mignolet tipped an Origi shot over the bar early on and denied Roux with an excellent save soon after. Gray gave us the lead with our first shot of the game, Ibe skipping past 2 defenders with ease before whipping it in for Gray to volley into the back of the net. Our second goal came when Allen clipped a ball over the top and Gray brought it down wonderfully before curling into tbe bottom corner. Lambert tackled Basa and calmly curled into the top corner to make it 3 before Origi hit the post with a header. Lille finally beat MOTM Mignolet when Basa headed in from a corner.

                          Match 15

                          Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
                          Sturridge 56
                          Van Persie 65 (PEN)

We both playing well in this match but the first chance of the game came to United, Rooney heading wide at the far post from a good ball in. Lindegaard made an excellent save to deny Sturridge and he made yet another one to deny Balotelli. We took the lead with the best goal I have ever scored, Sturridge getting the ball 35 yards out, hitting it with his right into the top corner with intense power. It was a knuckle ball, there was no spin, it just wnt straight in like a bullet. Unfortunately, United equalised from the spot after Sakho was penalised for lunging in. We got lucky as Rooney hit the bar with a header, then Falcao hit the bar on the rebound and on the third rebound Van Persie's header was tipped over the bar by our defender. Lindegaard made an incredible save in the last minute to deny Balo.

                          Match 16

                          Liverpool 4-1 Arsenal
                          Balotelli 32
                          Wilshere 54
                          Sturridge 69
                          Sturridge 80
                          Sterling 83

The first chance of the game came to Arsenal when Dzeko fired wide from close range. He then missed another one from a similar position before Balotelli coolly stroked into the bottom corner with his left foot from a Lallana through ball. Wilshere equalised with a powerful header from Walcott's cross but Sturridge fired it at the near post, the ball swerving away from the keeper at the last second to give us the lead. Mignolet made a great save to deny Koscielny minutes before Sturridge cut inside and fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Sterling made sure of the win, Sturridge back-heeling the ball to him and throwing all the defenders to allow Sterling to smash in to make it 4.

                          Match 17

                          Leicester 0-3 Liverpool
                          Ibe 14
                          Gray 35
                          Lambert 83

Ibe gave us the lead with a wonderful solo effort, dribbling past multiple players before prodding in at the near post beyond Schwarzer. Gray made it 2 when he beat his man down the left and thundered the ball into the roof of the net near post. On the stroke of half time, Schwarzer made an incredible save to deny Lambert's header from point blank range. Mignolet was tested just once, making a wonderful reactions save. Lambert made it 3 with a wonderful first time effort with his left foot.

                          Match 18

                          Burnley 1-2 Liverpool
                          Balotelli 79
                          Shackell 84
                          Coutinho 90

Not much happened in this game, Ings heading the first chance of the match over the bar. Balotelli hit the bar with our first chance but he made amends, spinning round his defender before slotting in past Heaton. Shackell equalised, smashing in off the post from just outside the box after a failed clearance. Heaton thought he'd kept his side at a draw after making saves to deny Moreno and Sturridge but Coutinho smashed in after some close-quarters dribbling to win the game.

                          Match 19

                          Liverpool 2-1 Swansea
                          Gray 17
                          Sigurdson 27
                          Gerrard 68 (PEN)

Gray gave us the lead in this match, running through and curling in off the post. Swansea came close to an equaliser, Sigurdson hitting the bar from a penalty after Enrique was penalised. However, the Iceland international got the equaliser, smashing in after some brilliant passing by the Welsh side. Ibe forced the keeper into a good save, as did Lambert and later Allen. Gerrard got us the winner from the spot after Gray was brought down in the box.

Headline in my career saying Athletic Bilbao to be bought by Middle Eastern businessmen. I guess these are those moments you know it's truly a video game. Basque + Middle Eastern policy all the way!

My Chemo is going well so far and they say I should be in remission halfway through May(turns out that It was only Stage 2 and not Stage 3) Life in general has also improved. I've received a lot of help with the depression that i've been going through because of my diagnosis. Expect to see some updates from me in the next couple weeks guys.

He was actually one of my transfer target but they wanted too much. Guillermo looked to have had a good game against Celta. I thought then that the 4-4-1-1 with Kodro and Guillermo would work but it seems I was wrong. Then there was a boring derby followed by an exciting derby! So close to losing that home record but thanks to Torres and 2 penalties you didn't. Good to see Ruiz de Galarreta score! Nice to see that you are in 3rd! Good work. The academy is looking really good but so many keepers! I think that you should take the Mexico job man, I really do.

I really thought the Guillermo - Kodro duo would work as well. I was excited to try it out but I think Kodro doesn't have the talent to make it work (he is 64 OVR afterall.) The main thing I disliked was that Guillermo would end up drifting wide too much and becoming a winger. If I had him stay central then he and Kodro would get in each other's way. It just didn't work, sadly . I knew you of all people would like to hear about Galarreta scoring so I made sure to get a pic of it lol I do have a lot of keepers but I plan on only promoting one or two. They're all from a 6 month scout trip in the USA. You have a good looking goalkeeper in your academy as well in Rafael Lopez. He's got pretty good potential and it you can hold on to him until May he could jump in OVR higher than Whalley and Alcolea. It would be great to see a youth graduate between the sticks next season!

And I love to see you beating Celta Vigo Absolute beat down of Gijon in leg 1 of the Copa Del Rey. Side note, how the hell could you play that game with both teams in red jerseys???

You know I wouldn't let you down! That Celta match was a must-win. As for the Gijon match, it was either that or have both of us go out in our away kits lol it actually wasn't too complicated to distinguish each other since their red shirt is slightly different tone and also their kit was full red.

You're doing a hell of a good job at Deportivo settling in a champions league spot. I was really surprised to see your transfers particularly Cuenca, but I really enjoyed your purchases. Of course my favorite was the Mexico captain Guardado who can play multiple positions and is having an amazing season at PSV, but also Keko who was actually one of my transfer targets in the past. Aquino was a great buy as well but sounds like he hasn't been in good enough form for you yet. By the way I'm totally jealous to see you have both Ekiza and Insua at 77 OVR! Those were two of my targets this past window before I completely flaked out and bought Bigas instead lol oh and also congratulations on the USA job! That's one of the rarest job offer I'm glad you got it
