Re: Anybody remember that press coverage.....
Press coverage is EXTREMELY easy to beat (so much so that I don't abuse it against the CPU). When I'm playing other players, I love seeing press coverage. I just hot route my outside receiver(s) to streaks. Then more times than not (usually a LOT more times than not) the CB will whiff on the WR and he'll be running free. A bullet pass between the CB and S is an easy 20+ yard gain. If there's no safety help, then a lob pass is an easy TD.
Partly because of this, 1 of my house rules against the CPU is that I'm not allowed to hot route anyone.Favorite Teams:

Press coverage is so easily beaten that I very rarely use it myself because it frequently gets turned into a TD.

Re: Anybody remember that press coverage.....
I like to use press in conjunction with the blitz, as I think it may buy me a second or two for my blitzer to get there. Even against bad QB's though, they can find the guy who got beat and hit him for 15-20 yards before my safety can save the day, if he is even there in that coverage. Against a good QB who wants to pass and not run, press coverage is a death wish, as is cover 2 when downfield routes are run.
Press coverage is a tool not an end all. I've found myself fielding surprising great defenses that perform much better than equally talented ones used to for me not because I have learned what tools to bring into certain situations.Comment

Re: Anybody remember that press coverage.....
Press coverage is rarely used as a base defense coverage. When you see press it is usually due to a blitz package and/or the defense has a really good D-line that can get quick pressure on the QB. If you are in man coverage for more than 3 to 4 seconds the defense is in trouble.Comment
