House rules on cutting players?
Does anyone here have house rules on cutting players? I was trying to come up with a few myself to maybe make my dynasty slightly more difficult and I was also hoping that if I cut a few players, maybe some players would transfer to my school or something. The only house rule that came to my mind and I liked was cutting two or three players at the end of every season with the lowest awareness. I'm just not sure if that rule would help or hurt my team overall, because I don't know if I would like cutting a starter if a starter was one of those players.

Re: House rules on cutting players?
My house rule is that I don't over recruit (I can only offer enough recruits to give me 70 total) and I never cut anyone.Favorite Teams:

Re: House rules on cutting players?
Interesting, I have tried to not over recruit before, but I just can never go through with it. Nothing wrong with how you recruit though, just can never do it myself for whatever reason. It's fascinating to me how different players have different house rules depending on how they play the game.Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
I always cut any player that is automatically added that I didn't offer a scholarship. Even with recruiting assistance turned off, the CPU will sometimes add players to your class. Most of the time they're low rated players, but occasionally they are decent to good players, and they must go regardless.NCAA FB 2003 - 2014 Dynasties

I didn't mention it, but I cut all of these guys too.

Re: House rules on cutting players?
I am the same as jello... I try not to over recruit. I only recruit up to 70 but I do recruit two extra recruits in case someone transfers or leaves for the draft. If I have to cut someone, it's at most 2 players. This makes me be more mindful of who I need to recruit and allows me to get more quality players than quantity.Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
I do the following
- never cut seniors
- never cut anyone who would legitimately be on the 2 deep roster (3 deep at positions like RB/QB)
- only ever cut freshmen (RS freshmen included) if there are no other upper classmen left to cut that don't match the first two criteria
The reason for this is to self-simulate having players that practice only actually quit the team and to regulate the amount of convenience cutting I can perform. If there are sophomores and juniors I want on my roster that aren't in the 2-deep, then the restriction on not being able to cut freshmen of any kind first is a nice little incentive to not over recruit.Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
Like most, I try not to over-recruit. If I do, however, I only cut fifth-year seniors. Teams in real life often lose fifth year seniors as it's possible they may have graduated and left school. Makes it difficult, you may have to cut some quality players.Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
Seems like a lot of people don't over recruit, maybe I should give that rule another shot since I've never been a fan of it in the past. I'm guessing you guys count that number of seniors and that's the maximum of players you can recruit that year?Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
You know the max roster size is 70 so subtract the number of players leaving from that to know how many players to target. I always target around 20 players but only offer enough players to make my roster size 68. I like 68 so I have a chance at getting some transfers.
Example of what I do:
I have space to add 12 players. I put 20 players on my board in the pre-season. I offer the 12 best/fill need players early. I still have 8 players I can invest time in as a "plan B" if I miss out on one of my 12. By the end of Signing Day I have enough players to fill my needs without taking players from the CPU.
This is not a full proof plan to avoid the players that sign without ever getting offered. Those are the only players I ever cut. It is very easy to not over recruit, it's a user fix not a AI fix.Relax, it's just a video game!Comment

Re: House rules on cutting players?
It's probably the best way to keep your roster from getting to be too good and making the game too easy.
The # of guys you can sign is enough to get to 70. If you already have 70, then it's simply the # of SRs you have. If you have less than 70, then it's the # of SRs + 70-(current roster size).
IE. if you have 67 on your roster and 15 SRs, then you can sign 15+3=18 kids.
I have a set # of guys that I like to have in my depth chart so I target the positions that I need to keep my depth chart full.
IE. w/ my spread option/3-4 teams I recruit to these #s:
QB-4
HB-5
FB-1 (I HATE that I need to waste a roster slot on a guy who NEVER plays except on kickoffs)
WR-8
TE-3
OT-6
OG-6
C-3
DE-5
DT-4
OLB-5
MLB-5
CB-6
FS-3
SS-3
K-1
P-1
Add that up and it's 69 guys so I can sign 1 extra guy at any position that I want.Favorite Teams:

Re: House rules on cutting players?
I have not been limiting my number of signees, as I have strict house rules in place regarding star ratings, but I think I might implement this one day. I like the graduating seniors plus two idea, to account for the possibility of a couple of players leaving early or transferring. I don't mind cutting players, I'm just cutting too many right now.
This reminds me of one of the major reasons I'm unlikely to ever go back to a PS2 version of NCAA- roster size limit. The versions I played the most had a limit of 55 players. It was annoying seeing WR's sub in for tired DB's, LB's at DT, FB at Center, etc. I'm satisfied with 70.NCAA FB 2003 - 2014 Dynasties

Our numbers differ a bit, but this is basically exactly what I do. If I have a graduating player that takes a certain position below my number, I recruit a guy there. Re: House rules on cutting players?
What I do is if I must cut anyone, I look at redshirt juniors that are purely depth players...but they must obviously have enough depth at that position. I think of it as they already spent four years on the team already, albeit on the bench. Granted, those cut guys can't transfer in the game like in real life, but at least that is what a majority, if not all, colleges/universities do. Just adds a little realism, for me at least.Comment

Is the selection of players through CPU is beneficial, as they are selected from the low rated to good players at random.Comment
