Neh. Now, if they let me use them in Play Now, that would pique my interest. But at this point, it's obvious that they're using them as a money grab for MUT. Funny (and sad) thing about that is, they have the legends and the commentators never said any of their names in any of the videos I've watched. Not to mention a number of the players having the wrong body types (see Bo Jackson, smh).

It's just another example of a feature in Madden being done with sloppiness.

I'd like offline franchise to be top notch, but i dont think the AI is ever going to get there with this franchise. Behavioral patterns show up shortly after release that make the computer stale to play against. The AI quarterbacks are the focal point at the bottom of the uncanny valley that is an AI team. Their movements in the pocket aren't convincingly human. Most of the other tendencies can be overlooked and don't break immersion.

It's for this reason I think MUT is the logical choice for this game to focus on. Online play is Madden's strongest component and the best gameplay experience it offers. And teambuilding is what a franchise player wants.

I really wish they could add matchmaking to your franchise. Hopping online to spoil someone's franchise? That would rule.

I think they have something big going on for this year. I read that latest update was 3 Gigs on xbox? Does the game even take up that much on the disc?

Yeah man, they had this in Madden 07, feature called Live Opponent, which I repeatedly rave about, which they decided to remove in Madden 08 for whatever reason, smh. Certainly made for a good option if playing against the lacking CPU AI wasn't your thing, you could just choose someone from your friends list or whoever online to play a franchise game, one and done.

If they would implement this, it would be a guaranteed buy for me.

Yea I'm tired of all starters out after first quarter then you gotta pause and do a bunch of shifting. The second used to create various scenarios in franchise

One issue I can see with online matchmaking for franchise mode is the complaints as people get cheesed by the video football game players that want to win at all costs regardless if their game play fits normal football strategy...

I would like the ability to assign custom play books to all CPU teams...And they actually stay with the team...

I also want to be able to use my custom play books without the CPU team also getting my custom play book assigned to them..

If the feature was done something like Live Opponent for Madden 07 on the 360, it would be an option for a User to allow another User online, of their choosing, to play as the CPU team for their Franchise game that week. I guess I get the general point you're making of someone possibly regretting having chose said User after the fact but it would make sense to have some idea of their play style, before choosing them in the first place.

Also, with Live Opponent, if for some reason the game was not completed, ie connection drop or either User just quit, the game didn't save and needed to be replayed.

Wasn't a fan of Live Opponent, would rather have a sports version of Forza's Drivatars to add variety to the AI though, adopting tendencies of a player in all aspects of the franchise mode, not just on the field.

If you chose not to use it, cool but it being there shouldn't matter to you or anyone else not using it, removing it made no sense, imo.

I'm in full agreement about having a more robust AI and adaptive AI but seeing as those making Madden seemingly don't prioritize such things, Live Opponent or something of that ilk, would be a nice option to have again.

Makes sense if the infrastructure changes and metrics don't support the work to retain it or it otherwise wasn't priority over other additions competing for finite resources. Likely the case with most things that get removed. Options aren't free.

Key part being "if" any of that was the case which we don't know and they certainly aren't "likely the case" given Madden's track record on feature removal. Also the key part to my earlier post being "imo", which the removal still makes no sense. "Options aren't free" would seem to generally apply to implementing them to begin with, not retaining them after the fact, so not really sure how that applies in this instance, smh.

It's how development works, in most industries. If there is a cost associated with a feature moving from one game to another then that is weighed against the costs of producing the new title. If something like live opponent is rarely used and too expensive to maintain (and it was an online-only feature so it's reasonable to expect they had metrics to support a decision), improve or carry over to the next game it'll be removed or left out - which it was.

People have touched on improving AI all year, especially for QB's, but it is also true for playcalling. Sick of calling plays out of I-Form Big, or other heavy (non-goalline) sets inside the 5, and the CPU calls a play out of a base defense, with two deep safeties. Also, on third and medium/long, you pretty much know the CPU is going to call either a slip screen, or four verticals half the time.

Clock management needs to be touched up to. Can't remember if it's still this way, but for years the CPU was programmed to always call a timeout at 1:01 in the two-minute drill. So if they got tackled with 1:15, they would basically waste 14 seconds of clock before calling the TO. The CPU shouldn't be calling a TO at a hard-coded time like this.
