    Bird Contract Type

Does anyone understand the benefit of a Bird Contract? I know that you can pay the player a 7.5% increase instead of the normal 5%, but is there any other reason to do this? I think it'd be cheaper just to give an extra 50k per year with a 5% increase, than a 7.5.

It lets you go over the salary cap to resign a player that's been on your team for at least 3 years. I'm pretty sure that only you can offer the 7.5% increase and other teams can only offer 5%. The benefit is it helps a lot with max contracts and lets you offer more money.

What was answered above is correct, and this is mostly out of being true to the real NBA I think. I don't think there's much actual value to it in 2k, but there is in the real NBA.
