Question: Do you think Madden 16 will deliver the goods when it comes to its blocking logic, engagement/disengage animations, and finally allow for users to cut off blocks, maybe even set-up multiple blocks, to gain additional yards? Or will it be more of the same - slam into the line and watch the infinity engine takeover?

Cutting off Blocks - reading your blocks - will Madden 16 deliver?
In Madden 15 there is absolutely no way users can consistently read blocks and cut off of them to gain extra yards. The blocking assignments and engage/disengage animation sets sabotage any ability to set up blocks as a ball carrier and trust your blockers to stay engaged. Madden 25 out performs Madden 15 in this regard but its still not in a way I'd consider adequate for next-gen football.

Re: Cutting off Blocks - reading your blocks - will Madden 16 deliver?
I believe there was talk on twitter involving Clint Oldenburg, from EA, about fixing line play?
Don't quote me; merely passing along what I recall reading in a post last night..
The line play needs some serious help - the major issue is being stuck to your own player's back like velcro..Comment

The madden team does not believe there is anything wrong with the line play. The engage/release with win/loss is fine to casuals who don't really read blocks, and it was worked on last year. I wouldn't expect anything but some tweaking this year.
Like the tethered passing system vs route based style, madden' s blocking is badly outdated next to APF where you could read blocks and call stunts separate from the secondary calls. I don't expect anything to change though.Comment

Clint has tweeted in the past that he believes madden has the best blocking in any video game. Just yesterday he tweeted this:

If that is true, then they do feel that there are some things wrong with line play, no?Last edited by roadman; 05-25-2015, 01:40 PM.Comment

His response was about Madden 16 in general the way I read it, not specifically regarding line play changes. So no, I don't feel they think anything is wrong with line play.

what line play issues do you not like?
That was a question Clint asked, but I can see where you thought the next response was from Clint was about Madden in general.
He did tell RM that he addressed most of his concerns on line play, though. So, that part, yes, I do feel Clint feels that line play needed to be addressed, wouldn't you agree?Last edited by roadman; 05-25-2015, 02:27 PM.Comment

Sounds to me like he is stating some fine tuning has been done for M16.

Cleaned up is another way of saying it was tweaked to me.
For me, line play is terrible. You can't call stunts, the oline and dline have been programmed together from the start so blitzes never really work, you can't read a block to tell if a defender is being blocked to the inside or outside... the olineman will just release whenever. Defenders go straight at the ball carrier, they don't take pursuit angles at all.
I am confident Ryan Moody will have plenty of material to work with. His old videos comparing madden to APF years ago are still relevant.Comment

Re: Cutting off Blocks - reading your blocks - will Madden 16 deliver?
I have observed that the running game in Madden has a lot to do with style as well as blocking. Some people I see playing Madden 15 on twitch are speed happy never set up their block (why run outside at Clowney getting blocked by a FB) by slowing down their back (LT on xbone), don't make the correct pre-snap read, or have a pass protector and expect him to be a mauler in the run game. Some teams can simply devastate with the running game (Dallas, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Seattle, Green Bay for example) because of proper personnel/scheme/player combinations.
Also, a high BCV is "supposed" to guide your first couple steps automatically into the "hole", freeing you to look for the cutback or the alternate hole. At times, I run right behind the blocks (with and without speed burst or LT), and right stick my way through the holes or cutbacks. All things being equal, (which is never) the defender will tend to stick to their blocks if you stay behind it longer. The physics/momentum is system not perfect, but effective to the point certain running back/O-lineman/scheme combinations can actually be OP against certain other teams, until you counter with "better" personnel on defense.
Additionally, if your opponent is good at playing the defensive line with the right personnel/scheme/players, good luck even getting a pass off, let alone have time to hit the hole, and their are defensive alignments that just make running a chore.
Personally, I think Madden 15 actually delivered a lot in the running game.Currently playing:

Re: Cutting off Blocks - reading your blocks - will Madden 16 deliver?
I think running feels better with average oline men. If they get too good or bad, then I agree it gets weird.
Case in point for me is my new CFM Raiders rebuild; they are terrible at running, and I've been building them up. It's now at a point where I have to really watch the blocking and cut it back or alter the prescribed route. I can actually get some success that way and it's been really rewarding.
With my eagles CFM, I just call the play and run through the gaping hole, and try and juke the safety.Comment
