A New York Knicks MyLeague Series



Very seldom does a team lose it's star player to a career-ending injury while that player is arguably in his prime. In this MyLeague series, I will be taking control of my favorite NBA team, the New York Knicks. Only, there's a twist: Not only will I be simulating the first season, but I will also go into the second season with Carmelo Anthony "retired". With Langston Galloway, Tim Hardaway Jr., and others leading the charge, Phil Jackson will have to build this once storied franchise from the ground up. What will the future of the New York Knicks hold without their biggest commodity? Well, you'll just have to check this dynasty out for yourself to find out.

Intro

The New York Knicks were already slipping away from playoff contention when tragedy suddenly struck the team during the NBA All-Star game.

Late in the 4th quarter, with the game already well in hand for the West, New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony drove to the basket, when suddenly, as he went right, his left knee buckled. Anthony crumbled to the floor, clearly in pain. The crowd, many of them Knicks fans, went silent immediately as medical staff went to go aide their star player. Anthony had to be carried out of the arena, and was later seen using crutches. Knicks fans feared the worst.

Unfortunately, the worst is what they got. Anthony suffered tears of his ACL, MCL and PCL, and was clearly done for the season. Anthony would later announce his retirement from the NBA a week later on his doctor's advice, much to the dismay to Knicks fans.

The Knicks would finish the season 25-57, the worst record in the NBA.

The only glimmer of bright side that the Knicks received with Anthony's retirement was just under $25M in cap space to use in the upcoming off-season.

With the Knicks being the front-runners for the #1 overall pick in this summer's NBA Draft, the Knicks will be able to continue their rebuilding process at a much quicker pace. The question is will they be able to get the #1 pick, and if so, who will they pick?

Timberwolves Win Draft Lottery; Knicks Get #4 Overall Pick

In a stunning turn of events, the New York Knicks, heavily favored to earn the #1 overall draft pick in this month's NBA Draft, drew fourth in the NBA Draft lottery. They will have the #4 overall draft pick. The Minnesota Timberwolves won the draft lottery, with the Los Angeles Lakers finishing second (giving the Suns the #2 pick), and the Utah Jazz finished third.

James, Love opt out of contracts, become free agents

Cleveland Cavaliers fans woke up to the stunning news that LeBron James may be leaving them once again after opting out of his player option after one season. James was joined by Kevin Love, who also opted out of his contract, as both men are now entering free agency.

Other notable players that opted out of their contracts include Al Jefferson (Hornets), Dwyane Wade (Heat), Brook Lopez (Nets), Goran Dragic (Heat), and Monta Ellis (Mavericks).
