NBA 2K16 Features Body Scans for More Player Authenticity

The official NBA 2K Twitter account posted a picture today of cover athlete Anthony Davis getting body scanned. The promise is that it will give players "more authenticity than ever before."

Obviously that's a bit vague, but this is not the first time we've heard about this type of scanning. Back in January, we pointed out that a couple NBA teams posted similar images on their official Twitter accounts. In other words, the NBA 2K folks have been making their rounds to get this done.

It's hard to say if this is to try and push more realistic wingspans, more realistic tattoos, more body types, or something else even deeper than that. It also makes you wonder if you will have more body types to choose from when creating players.

Either way, more authenticity is never a bad thing, we'll just have to see how this all comes together.

    UPDATE: Body scans continued...

Very cool. I wonder if Westbrook's Live endorsement make it harder for 2k to get him in for scanning? Vice versa for Live with Curry,Harden,Davis?
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Kind of figured this was in based off what they were showing before. Now if the wingspans actually play a role in blocks animations tips and such will remain to be seen.

I know people have asked for adjustable wing spans. This is extremely good for getting the right muscle definition and arm of players so everyone doesn't have to have those puny arms.

          Awesome confirmation.

I'm really really REALLY hoping we can finally create players with different body types.

Heck, I'd be happy with: skinny, muscular, stocky.

Just PLEASE give us some variation.

Very exciting news here, I wonder if players are scanned in their uniforms so the tight or loose fit jerseys are also scanned into the game.

I hope "body scans" wasn't the 2 words that will dramatically change gameplay. However, if this makes blocking shots with Anthony Davis feel different from contesting a shot with Taj Gibson then I definitely welcome the addition. I want it to be functional not just a visual enhancement

Couldn't have said it better myself. Davis gets shots on the perimeter due to agility and wingspan. He is just a freak man

                Example like this

I just hope they tie Body Mass into authentic Physics.

And scanning body types should have some impact on rebounding.

This is awesome & long overdue! I know the scanning technology hasn't been around that long but this is great news! Hopefully no more skinny arms for players that should be buff (Blake Griffin, Serge Ibaka, James Harden, etc...) I have a feeling 2k16 is going to blow us away! Now just give me proper foot planting, eliminate players sliding into position when receiving passes, the ability to break out of any animation & I'm a happy camper

Anything that relates to improved player models is a major plus for me. I just need to hear what this big thing Wang is working on for gameplay.

Westbrook is signed on to live so I don't know if they got him scanned but he needs it because he looks nothing like his real life counter part. but I hope finally accurate detailed wing spans and hand length is in the game.

I think being able to break out of any animation is a bit unrealistic. While I do agree there should be SOME animation we should break out of if need be, I would challenge you to go out on the basketball court and try and break out of your movements at any point you wanted to. I garantee you will find it difficult to control your body as much as you would like. It is a video game at the end of the day but I'm going to appreciate the developers that don't sacrifice realism for user control like other companies.
