Re: We have a football team too... Guru's UConn Huskies (NCAA 14)

    Evening all,

Bit of a thread update here....a bit of a downer so strap in.

I completed the playoff, but I'm having problems advancing past the bowl week, an error on my part somewhere. Bad part? I don't know how I can fix it. I posted the issue in the playoff/modding thread in the NCAA section, so I'm going to see if I can get a solution, and obviously I'm going to keep working myself to fix it. (NOTE: If you want to see this, there IS a spoiler as to how the playoffs finish. You've been warned.)

Regardless, if I'm out of luck and can't find a fix, the playoff will be the last game(s?) in the 'chise, then I will have to end it because, as I mentioned, I can't advance past the bowl week (backed up my file, but right after I completed the title game, nowhere previous). After that, I would have no idea what I want to do, and hopefully I don't have to contemplate that. But I'd take a break then figure out what I want to do later on...

If I can find a fix, the 'chise will continue and all these new CAC's will see the light of day.

Not only that, but I'm on vacation next week, so this will be the last post for now regardless. I was hoping to have the Sugar Bowl up yesterday, but I had some technical issues, and I just don't really want to deal with that right now.

So sorry for all the bad news...hopefully I can do something right next time.

Thanks as always for following. See you guys soon.

I would hate to see this end... But, there's always room for new ideas. I've had an idea for a 'chise for a long, long time. Check your PM.

Saban out at Bama, Diaco being heavily pursued

After a 4-8 season, his first without making a bowl game in his tenure at Alabama, Nick Saban will more than likely be let go three years removed from making the college football playoff.

Saban has gone 110-36 in his 11 sesons at the helm of the Tide, but after 2 straight losing seasons (6-7 in 2016), Alabama admin thought it was time for a change.

The replacement? Sources such as ESPN and Fox Sports are reporting UConn headman Bob Diaco is the favorite, along with Marshall's Blake Anderson, soon to be deposed 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, former Alabama DC and current Kentucky HC Kirby Smart and Purdue head coach Matt Limegrover.

Diaco is the guy though, according to inside sources for the Tide. Diaco has racked up a 39-13 record since coming to East Hartford/Storrs in 2014, and has led UConn to the college football playoff this year while going 13-0.

UConn saw Diaco interview for the USC job and the Minnesota Vikings opening last offseason before deciding to stay at UConn. He is under contract through 2020, but can opt out at anytime.

Hoping it's fixed. But if you go to Bama, the game might as well just stay broken.

I'm still on vacation, and will be gone until Saturday. RedRaider10 messaged me and might have found a solution for me, so when I return i will try it. Plus, I was bored last night and wrote that last post up while trying to fall asleep. So...

Regardless, Saban was going out at Bama, be it if the dynasty were finished or not, his job security was below 40% IIRC.

However, this leaves me more flexible with the storyline. If I can't get the file working, we can ship Diaco to Tuscaloosa and call it a night. If I can, let the speculation begin.

I'm still trying, but it's looking grim. I've done just about everything I can to no avail.

We'll discuss this more after the CFP. I have played through the CFP, and I'm going to hopefully have that Oregon game up tomorrow. Really do apologize for the lack of activity lately...

WHAT did Florida do to TCU in the Best Buy Rose Bowl?

So much for an intriguing Rose Bowl.

Can't get the video to work, but damn. It's a great day to be a Florida fan. Shame that I thought TCU had a chance.

Led by Heisman winner Treon Harris' 5 TD's and 449 pass yards, #3 Florida absolutely demolished the TCU Horned Frogs in the Best Buy Rose Bowl 66-10 to advance to the program's 2nd national title game in 3 years.

Florida jumped out to a 40-0 lead in the 2nd quarter and had control from the opening snap.

The nation's best offense was aided incredibly by a phenomenal defensive showing, which held TCU's star tailback Shawn Nixon to just under 50 yards and forcing QB Foster Sawyer into 2 INT's.

Florida will have somewhat of a home field advantage as they remain in Florida for the National Title at the Orange Bowl, home of Miami (FL).

                    If we win, we're screwed.

                    Sugar Bowl next.

                          That defense doe....

UConn tops Oregon 10-3 in lowest scoring Sugar Bowl since '62; advance to face Gators in CFP Championship

                          One more.

It was quite possibly the ugliest offensive football game ever, but Bob Diaco does not care. He loves defense.

And because the genius shut down the vaunted Oregon offense, the UConn soul train is a win away from the promised land.

UConn had control from the get-go, as the Huskies spent 5 minutes of the first quarter's 7 on the first drive, converting a 4th and short before Mike Miller's field goal made it 3-0.

Oregon's best offensive success came on their first drive too, as Royce Freeman gashed UConn for 3 big carries, and Oregon eventually settled for a field goal as well to make it 3-3 early in the second.

However, it was downhill from there for the offense. Marriner was held short on a 3rd and 2, and while Freeman got a few more good carries, Morgan Mahalak's pass to Devon Allen went for 11 yards when they needed 12.

UConn crossed midfield with 2 minutes to play in the half, but again the UConn run game was surprisingly stymied as Ron Johnson was held short by Sentrell Romero.

Oregon had 30 seconds to string something together, but Jamar Summers, after 2 straight tipped passes, finally hauled one in on a deep pass to the right in single coverage. I believe this leaves Jamar 2 picks away from the UConn career record (we'll check that out in the record watch later).

And just like that, we were tied at the half. At 3. Both teams were being taken out of their elements offensively (UConn held to 38 rush yards, Oregon to 33 pass yards). Something had to give.

Oregon would be held short again...albeit barely...on a 3rd and 9 screen play to Freeman, and UConn would deliver the knockout punch on the next drive.

On a 4th and 6 from the 40, Bryant Shirreffs, with pressure bearing down on him, got a beautiful pass out to Jon Haden (who had 5 catches on the day), and converted the 4th to keep the drive moving.

Good thing Diaco elected to go for it, as two plays later Shirreffs rolled to the right from just inside the red zone, and found tight end Tommy Myers, who turned and barreled into the end zone for what turned out to be the only TD of the game.

It was a great play, because Oregon linebacker Josh Green was supposed to be on Myers, but went into zone coverage in the middle of the field, and that allowed Myers to roll right and beat Green for the TD.

Josh Green (red arrow) was thought to be guarding Myers (blue arrow) on this play. However, Green ducked into the middle of the field on zone coverage, and Myers went right, leaving Green with no chance and Myers with the only TD of the game.

With time ticking away in the 3rd, Oregon converted a 3rd down on a screen, got a 10 yard read option from Mahalak, and then into the 4th Mahalak delivered a nasty stiff arm on Javon Hadley to keep the drive moving. But on a 1st and goal from the 9, Mahalak fired an INT to Hadley, who got revenge by stepping in front of Brandon Sparks and giving UConn the ball with 5:27 on the clock.

However, Shirreffs gave it right back, as he overthrew Myers and Chris Seisay made a phenomenal INT while falling on his back, giving Oregon another chance. Thing is, Oregon went backwards each of their three plays, getting sacked on 2 by Cam Stapleton.

Brandon Shaw's field goal went wide left, and UConn averted calamity once again.

UConn couldn't quite finish the deal on offense though, and had to punt with 3 minutes to go.

However, it was Luke Carrezola who came up with two big tackles to stop Freeman, then Josh Marriner, held in check all day, came up with 2 first downs to end the game and send UConn to the brink of the promised land.

One win away. This game was by no means pretty on the offense, but we need to step up.

We get Florida next. If you can believe this, Florida barely needed to show up in the Rose Bowl, as they demolished TCU 66-10 in the Best Buy Rose Bowl, and Marriner finally gets to face Heisman winner Treon Harris to prove that the pride of Storrs, CT is the best in the land. Shame, I wanted to face TCU.

One win away.....Let's Do This. #RiseUpTogether.

                          We're bringing home the Natty.

I actually got an indirect response from a guy in the Playoff Q/A thread....I may not be done yet.

EDIT: Yes. There is a savior. I owe a massive thank you to RedRaider10 and sherrane over in the CFP Q/A thread for getting this fixed and allowing this to continue. Right as I was about to give up...

Get re-energized folks. The UConn bane/soul train will roll on. Into that Orange Bowl for the Natty. Into the Big 12 for next year (2018). And to the very top. Thanks for following everyone.

In addition: CAC (Create-A-Coach) sign ups will be open until about 10 A.M. this morning when I do the offseason.

We have about 14 or 15 now, but I have room for everyone.

                                Name: Brian Grant

                                Skin Color: Light

                                Hat/Glasses (Optional):None
                                Alma Mater: Texas A&M
                                Offensive Philosophy/Playbook: Air Raid
                                Defensive Philosophy/Playbook: 3-4
                                Sub Frequency: None
                                Specialty: Offense
Coaching Style: Very aggressive, frequently uses no-huddle,

Would prefer to go to Texas A&M as an offensive coordinator, but if that doesn't work, then anywhere else as an OC would be fine.
