Re: Madden NFL 16 Presentation Details

As I referenced earlier in the thread, the tech for a ticker in CFM is already there, but seemingly only for player XP or drive goals. These screenshots are from back in May:

I'm hoping this also gets used as a way to display out-of-town scores.

(IMO the overreliance on elements like XP and player ratings during gameplay kills immersion. It makes it less like a sport and more like an RPG or FPS. Here's hoping you can turn off some of the feedback if you choose.)

Yeah the foundation is there, now they just need to add around the league stats and scores to the ticker. The xp and goals feedback is optional so you can turn it off if you want.

Commentary and nfl ticker is what i feel like whats missing. But at the same time some of this stuff players would have to be willing to sit thru and not hit x to move on. Cant say u want it in the game and then blow by it if its there. IMO

I respect that, but for me it just takes me out of the immersion. I'd rather that stuff be saved for a superstar/my player type mode.

I just think replicating a broadcast is more impressive, more eye catching to people looking at the game. Give's it a wow factor.

Can you really call that moving though? Lmao. Most of the time they slide out the way. There are times when they do interact like it was talked about in the blogs, but it rarely happens as advertised. When it does happen it looks pretty good though. Just need more consistency, like mostly everything else in Madden.

They should at least do what the HBs do now when they avoid the line, similar to assassins creed.

I'd like to see some more involved animations, but that's just me.

It would be pretty sweet to see some momentum animations where a RB (or any player with the ball) is running full tilt down the sideline and get's a shove into the sidelines and goes crashing into the trainers table, or Gatorade etc.

That would be a wow moment.

In the old thread there was a discussion about whether such a ticker would even work in online CFM or in a CFM where the human controlled more than one team. I originally said:

Apologies if I've missed something, but how would an in-game ticker for CFM games work outside of CFMs with only a single human controlled franchise?

Games don't take place at the same time. CPU Vs CPU are simmed when you advance a week, and other Human Vs CPU, and Human Vs Human games aren't always played at the same time. So how would the data for the ticker be available when you play a game?

You couldn't just exclude the Human Vs CPU and Human Vs Human games from the ticker and sim the CPU Vs CPU games before Human involved games start - You have roster cuts and trades from other players in the CFM that could have affected those results.

If there is a solution that I've overlooked I'd love to hear it, but at the moment I have no idea how EA could actually implement this.
We came up with a few ideas and potential workarounds but it isn't as simple as just plugging it into the game given how CFM currently functions with simming taking place after you've played a game. I'd like to see a ticker, but at the same time I am ready to recognise that the benefits of online play in modern games can lead to restrictions such as this.

Definitely, that's why I said at least do the other.

I think we can call it moving because they actually move out of the way. Its not perfect at all and not as good as other games but its a step in the right direction. They are improving it every year. Just not at the rate of speed that everyone may like.

I get it. This is a problem with being the only NFL game in town. You have to be everything to everybody. I've always preferred the broadcast style of presentation. Years ago, I had my choice of 4 games and usually picked the game that was closest to that style of presentation. I'm the type of guy who would watch the halftime show and weekly shows every week.

But there are plenty of people not like me who love the on the field stuff. Like I said its about finding the balance because they have to make everyone happy.

JP, being that you're in contact with the devs, can you let them know that this needs to be addressed (sideline players & refs just sliding out of the way instead of taking actual steps)? Even if the can't fix it before release, they can always fix it in a patch I would think....I personally can't stand seeing sideline players & refs sliding all over the place.

They definitely are aware man, it all comes down to time and priorities, I can ask, but I highly doubt they could address this in a patch.
