I think you made the right call going with Fields into the Auburn game, reading the N'Western game report and subsequent injury, I was hoping you would go with the redshirt Senior in a conference game on the road. Just made sense to go with the more consistent player than the athlete in that moment.

Jean is really looking like a monster early on. I have no doubt he'll do nasty things to that Vandy secondary. He can carry your offense through a brutal conference schedule and you can spread the defense out to open up your rushing game.

Gotta work with your QBs on the taking sacks lol...those negative yards are scary. Even going back to the pro style offense, maybe work in a package sub for Atkinson with the shotgun, pistol or even wildcat (if you have it in your PB).

    Looking forward to more bro!
I thought about doing the two-QB system thing but ultimately decided against it, mainly because it isn't an option for the CPU; it just didn't seem fair.

I like Fields so far and you're right, him being in his 5th season played a major role in the decision, along with him having the highest THA rating on the team.

Hopefully we don't need to play the starters long against Vandy. I'd like to come out, establish the run, and hopefully build up a nice lead and get some of the youngsters some P.T. in the second half.

As for the sacks....I have a bad habit of making bad situations worse and tend to run backwards in an attempt to avoid the sack; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. They only had 3 sacks on the day and that accounted for probably close to minus 60 yards, which needless to say is kind of ridic.

    Thanks for checking in man!

Jean has been quite the find. I am loving using him in the red zone. He looks like such a tower out there compared to everyone, especially compared to DBs.

He is without a doubt the new focal point of the offense and my new favorite player, which I haven't had since Reggie Moore left. I can't wait to see what this guy looks like by his third season. He could be another Tulane legend in the making.

Feels so crazy to be reading names like Reggie Moore and Curtis Byrd. Tulane legends...just incredible what you have built here...ok ok day dreaming over...

Time go to work and take care of Vandy. Looking at that that roster, you should flatten them. I would expect your defense is going to run wreck on that quarterback. Good luck!

Yeah this is uncharted territory for me, getting this deep into a dynasty, so it has indeed been fun having that much "dynasty history" built up to where there are so many old names from several Tulane generations ago.

It is also amazing just how many guys you flat-out forget about.

I think this game at Vandy should be a cakewalk. I am worried about their RB with 95 speed though. All it takes is for one or two missed gap assignments and all of a sudden we've spotted them 14 points.

Hope you're right. I'd like to be able to work on my running game in the second half. Hopefully this is the type of game in which I can rotate starters out early in the second half.

Thanks Dope. I agree, their speed is a concern. Hopefully our guys don't let people get behind them on D.

Thanks for checking in all....about to fire this game up for some early A.M. action!

Game 4, Year 10 (2019 season): #1 Tulane Green Wave at Vanderbilt Commodores

                #1 62 -- 4-0 (3-0)
                NR 26 -- 1-3 (0-3)

With the Green Wave up just 24-20 late in the third quarter and facing a critical 3rd and 19 deep in their own territory, Tulane QB Preston Fields completes a screen pass to RB B.J. Johnson who breaks a tackle and takes it the distance for an 89-yard touchdown that made the score 31-20.

TULANE HAS FIELD DAY VERSUS OVERWHELMED VANDY, WINS IMPRESSIVELY 62-26

After a very shaky 2 1/2 quarters, top-ranked Green Wave blasts past Vandy in the second half, scores 45 points en route to a Geezy era record 62 points | QB Fields, RB Johnson, WR Jean all have huge days as Tulane improves to 4-0 | Defense collects 5 interceptions and scores 2 touchdowns despite giving up 480 pass yards | Tough 3-game stretch starts next week with home date versus #19 Notre Dame

Nashville, TN -- Tulane's #1 ranking looked to be in jeopardy late in the third quarter, up just 24-20 on host Vanderbilt and facing a 3rd and 19 backed up deep in their own territory and the Nashville crowd in a frenzy. However, on the play, RB B.J. Johnson would catch a screen pass and take it 89 yards for a touchdown to extend Tulane's lead and ignite a massive surge in momentum that ended with the Wave winning 62-26 Saturday night in Nashville. Johnson, whose role was increased a week ago due to the coaching staff's belief in his big play ability, finished the game with a team-high 141 rushing yards and a touchdown along with 102 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, further justifying his increase in usage.

Following his 89-yard touchdown reception, Johnson would strike again on Tulane's next possession. This time, the 5th year speedster would take a handoff out of wildcat formation and weave his way through traffic for a 60-yard touchdown run that made the score 38-20 with 1:06 to go in the third quarter.

RB B.J. Johnson's increase in touches has paid dividends for Tulane as the redshirt senior finished with 243 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns on Saturday night.

"B.J. continued to show today why he has earned the playing time he is getting," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"He's really given the offense a shot in the arm. This young man has shown flashes throughout his time here and I am glad that in his 5th season, his hard work is paying off and he is showing everyone what he can do."

Vanderbilt (1-3) hung tough early in the game and trailed just 17-10 at halftime despite coming into the game as 30+ point underdogs. In the end however, the Green Wave imposed its will and pulled away while scoring a whopping 45 second half points.

QB Preston Fields, making his second career start in place of injured starter Jimmy Williams, finished the game with 370 yards and 4 touchdown passes, despite completing only 12 of his 25 passes. The redshirt senior took advantage of mismatches in the secondary and carved up the Vanderbilt secondary for several long gains through the air. In two games, Fields has thrown for 557 yards along with 8 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions. His favorite target on the evening, emerging star freshman WR Ryan Jean, finished with 196 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on just 4 receptions, including sensational catch-and-run 67-yard score which featured a spin move to elude a defender in the open field.

Commodores QB Bernard Robinson, who finished with a Vanderbilt school record 480 passing yards, would find WR Fred Garrison for a 1-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cut the Wave lead to 38-26. However Tulane would go on to score 24 unanswered points the rest of the way.

Tulane's defense collected 5 interceptions on the evening, including sophomore CB Marcus Jackson's pair of picks.
Sophomore FS Lee Palmer's 11-yard interception return for a touchdown made the score 48-26 and reserve RB Chris Maynard's 32-yard touchdown run made the score 55-26 with just 0:20 remaining, matching the previous high of 55 points scored under Geezy in the team's 55-7 Liberty Bowl win over UL-Monroe n 2013 as well as their 55-21 win over rival Southern Miss in 2017 at Hattiesurg.

The Green Wave would get one more unexpected score however. Rather than running out the clock, Vanderbilt would attempt one more pass with just 0:01 remaining. The decision would backfire when Wave CB Nate Hall would intercept Robinson's pass. The blue chip freshman would get grabbed immediately to be tackled, however rather than going down, Hall would lateral the ball to trailing FS Troy Cowan, who caught the pitch and took it 27 yards into the end zone with the clock expired, giving Tulane 62 points, which is the most they've ever scored under Geezy.

"We'll obviously have a talk with both Nate and Troy about our expectations on how our defense is expected to handle those late, game-clinching turnovers, but I'd be lying if I said I did not enjoy the play," said Geezy.

"I want to be careful not to overstate this, being that we were 30+ point favorites heading in, but from the standpoint of how this game began and where we stood around the middle of the third quarter, for us to impose our will the way we did for the final quarter and a half, this was a special win. And the final play of the game in a way symbolized that."

Tulane (4-0) will host #19 Notre Dame (3-1) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Green Wave defeated the Irish 41-17 last season in South Bend.

On the game's final play, Tulane freshman CB Nate Hall intercepts Vandy QB Bernard Robinson and promptly laterals the ball to sophomore SS Troy Cowan while being tackled. Cowan would catch the lateral and return it 27 yards for a touchdown as the clock expired, making the score 62-26. Tulane's 62 points are the most points scored by the Wave under head coach D. Geezy.

What a thrashing of Vandy even if it did take until the final frame for the Green Wave to remember they were the number one team in the nation. And what a game for Johnson. He almost looked like he was doing his best Reggie Moore impression there. Makes me sad he is a senior.

I had to smile on that last lateral of the game for the score. Better hope Vandy never gets good or they would make you pay for running up the score on them with a style play.

Layout looks fantastic my friend. Gosh I can't believe how much I missed reading your reports during your retirement. I have never traversed the Sahara desert personally but I would imagine it feels a lot like that to not have a D. Geezy report in my life.

Appreciate it Cheese. All it has taken was these 4 game reports for me to quickly remember just how fun reporting is and how much fun playing with Tulane was. It is just so immersive.

It's funny you mention Reggie Moore as a comp for Johnson. Prior to my decision to play Johnson more, I actually went back to my archived Reggie Moore freshman season in 2014 (I save a copy of each and every end of season menu at the conclusion of each season), and Johnson's senior year ratings are near identical to Reggie's. And Reggie beasted as a freshman, so that's what finalized my idea to expand his role. The move really has been huge for us and he is a big play specialist a la true freshman Reggie.

That lateral play was a fun moment. I actually got pretty hyped from it and was beating my chest, doing goofy-looking showboating dances and everything at the end of the game. It was hilarious.

As always, thanks for checking in my friend!

Looks like the schedule gets a bit more difficult here with four of the next five ranked in the top 20.

Love the links that flashback to previous meetings during your dynasty (or even real life if you hadn't played them yet), pretty cool.

Anytime you can play these video games and end up doing goofy dances and showboating, that's a great game or play in my book, regardless of the score or time left!

WOW...what a second half for your squad! 38 points in just over a quarter of play! Ryan Jean continues to impress. I'm excited to see how he plays over the three game stretch against ND, USC and Florida. I know you won't intentionally try to pump up his stats, but, if he continues at this pace, you could have a true Frosh Heisman winner.

I would continue to give BJ Johnson the ball in any scenario possible as well. He's a dual threat back that can run and catch. Maybe get him in the slot every now and then on a WR screen and just see if he can get you a good 15-20 yards with a wall in front of him - I'd go to it once your in plus territory though.

Don't worry about that last second TD. You gotta put up style points, but, somehow I think you know that since you decided to lateral to another defender. Don't blame those virtual athletes for your cut-throat actions!

                        Good luck against the Irish!

Yes this stretch coming up is going to define our season. This past game was the final warm-up, it's about to get real now. Not to look past the Irish, but that game at USC is circled on the calendar.

Glad you like the flashbacks. It's something that pretty much all major sports articles have these days so it is always fun linking back to yester-year, both for the reader and for my own convenience. This thing is 10 seasons in, so I try to make sure all that history stays relevant, especially in this "Part II" format where a lot of the history isn't conveniently on this thread.

Haha...My 13 year old walked in on me while I was hyped after the INT, kind of embarrassing actually. At the same time though, all I can do was beat my chest and look at him and say "they ain't ready for the Green Wave son! they not ready for this!" lol

I actually have been using B.J. in that fashion. I basically went back and looked at all the ways we used Reggie Moore "back in the day" and I am putting B.J. in a similar role, lined up at WR, using him in the screen game, jet sweeps (which is what he scored his long TD run on), etc. His senior year ratings virtually match Moore's freshman season ratings, so I am using him in the same fashion. His 93 speed shows up almost every time he touches the ball; I regret not using him more in previous seasons because he has always made nice plays here and there for us in spot duty.

I laughed at your "don't blame those virtual athletes" comment. Hilarious

As for Ryan Jean, he looks like Megatron out there. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in this dynasty, similar to RB Reggie Moore and QB Jamie Manning....I wasn't going to make this a big deal or do a write-up on it since we are still so early in the season but since you've mentioned it....

Yeah man, so excited to watch this kid develop. I didn't expect him to be this good, this soon. He may very well end up being "the face" of Part 2 of this dynasty.

Davis versus Notre Dame - 2018
Last Meeting: Then-sophomore RB Bernie Davis, making his first career start in place of injured senior RB Brett Curtis, carried the ball 14 times for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns, pacing the Green Wave to a 41-17 victory last season in South Bend. Tulane scored a whopping 21 points in a span of 0:47 in the third quarter to quickly pull away from the homestanding Irish and improve to 6-0 on the season. The win marked the first time in nine tries that the Wave were able to defeat the Irish.

Last Meeting at Venue: The Fighting Irish have never stepped foot in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to face the Green Wave, however the two teams did meet at old-Tulane Stadium in New Orleans in 1969, a game Notre Dame won 37-0. The Irish are 4-0 all-time versus Tulane in New Orleans and, prior to last season, were 8-0 overall versus the Wave, posting a whopping 275 to 35 point differential in the process.
