Runner sliding into 3rd on a single to the OF?

I've been having some problems trying to score a runner from 2nd on a single to the OF. It seems like no matter what I do, whether it's pointing to him with the stick then directing him home or holding L1 as soon as the ball is hit, my runner will slide into 3rd base, even if the ball hasn't even made it to the RF's glove yet, forcing me to hold him at 3rd or have him gunned down at the plate by a mile. Is there something I'm doing wrong here or am I just doomed to never score a runner from 2nd on a single?

I've never had this problem with default baserunning. Just point to the runner and click "x" and he will head for home.

I have to hit L1 quick, before runner is half way to third and this solves the problem. Very annoying issue .
